The radio frequency (RF) heating is a novel technology in food industry which has the advantages of fast and volumetric heating. The potential application of the radio frequency technology has been gradually developed in many fields including food drying, sterilization/pasteurization, dis-infestation, thawing and etc. However, there are still problems like non-uniform heating problem needs further research. It was reviewed the fundamentals, applications, and mathematical modeling techniques of radio frequency heating processes in this study, and the future research needs of it were also prospected.

Corn bran was the major byproducts of corn processing, which contained a variety of functional and active components. Based on the literature learning method and summarization, the Chinese research progresses on the extraction technology of corn bran active components in recent ten years were reviewed in this article. The research prospect of the corn bran active components had also been presented, which provided a reference for its overall and further research and development.

The effects of allylthiourea (ATU) concentration on the cathodic polarization behaviour, nucleation and surface morphology of nickel electrodeposited on the glassy carbon electrode from ammonia-ammonium chloride-water (NH3-NH4Cl-H2O) solutions were investigated by cyclic voltammogry, cathodic polarization and current transient methods. The results revealed that the addition of ATU inhibited nickel deposition, which was enhanced with an increase in ATU concentration from 5 to 50 mg•L-1. The initial deposition kinetics corresponded to a model including instantaneous nucleation and diffusion controlled growth. In the presence of ATU, the initial nucleation of nickel electrocrystallisation remained unchanged. …

In this work, the NiS2 nanosheets have been synthesized using Ni(OH)2 as a precursor through a sacrificial template method. The microstructure and chemical composition of as-prepared NiS2 were characterized by XRD, EDS, BET, SEM and TEM techniques. The results showed that both Ni(OH)2 and NiS2 were composed of nanoplates. The electrochemical tests revealed that NiS2 exhibited the high specific capacitance of 1067.3 F•g-1 at a current density of 1 A•g-1 and excellent rate performance. In order to improve the electrochemical capacitive properties and to apply coconut shell activated carbon (AC) serving as electrode materials in ionic liquid (IL)-based supercapacitor (SC), the coconut shell AC material was re-activated using a steam as an activating agent in this work, forming a secondary AC (W-AC). The results showed that the specific capacitance of the W-AC electrode was much larger than that of the raw activated carbon electrode (R-AC) in 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([EMIM]BF4). Development of palladium (Pd) catalysts with high electroactivity for alcohol oxidation is significant for alcohol fuel cells. In this work, Pd nanoparticles were formed by sodium borohydride (NaBH4) reduction method and subsequently deposited on the surface of carbon supported ferriferrous oxide (Fe3O4/C) composites to obtain the Pd/Fe3O4-C catalysts with different Fe3O4 loadings. It is of technological value and scientific interest to the electro-synthesis of ferrocene, conversion of carbon dioxide (CO2) and organic electro-synthesis in non-aqueous solutions by investigating the kinetics and mechanism toward electrochemical reductions of sodium bromide (NaBr) and methanol over iron electrodes. However, few reports in the related researches are available. In this article, the kinetics and mechanism toward electrochemical reductions of NaBr and methanol over iron electrodes were examined in detail by carrying out the polarization curve and electrochemical impedance spectroscopic measurements. The composite materials contained high modulus carbon fiber (HMCF) were successfully prepared by employing a ball-milling process based on the coating treatment of polyethylene glycol (PEG), and their structures and morphologies were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) techniques.The influences of PEG content on sulfur cathode capacity, cycle stability and rate performance were systematically studied. HPV infection is known to cause cervical cancer. This study aimed to identify the variant of HPV genotypes of cervical precancerous lesions from low grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LSIL) and high grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL). This was an explorative study using formalin fix paraffin embedded (FFPE) from cervical precancerous lesions at Dr. Soetomo Hospital, Surabaya. Acne vulgaris (AV) is an inflammation of pilosebaceous unit especially in young adult. The pathophysiology is the elevation of sebum production, keratinization of abnormal pilocebaseous follicles, and inflammation caused by immune response to Propionibacterium acnes. Therapy combination of oral antibiotics (doxycycline) and physical therapy (blue light) in moderate-severe acne is one option to reduce antibiotic resistance. Doxycycline is a commonly antibiotic used. The effects of photosensitive can increase the penetration of blue light by sebaceous glands. The esophageal caustic injury is rare, but it requires precise and complex management. A variety of reconstruction techniques have been done, but despite the increasing volume, the incidence of complications is still relatively high. We reported the experience in our center in handling esophageal reconstruction in patients with caustic esophageal injury that caused oesophageal stricture between 2014-2017. This study used case series method with literature review. The results showed that between 2014-2017, there were 3 patients with caustic esophageal injury. The Ogallala Aquifer Program (OAP) was created in 2003 with support from Congressmen from Kansas and Texas. The OAP is a research-education consortium seeking solutions from problems arising from declining water availability from the Ogallala Aquifer in western Kansas and the Texas High Plains. The consortium is led by the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) laboratories in Bushland and Lubbock, TX, and the university partners are Kansas State University, Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Service, Texas Tech University, and West Texas A&M University. Productivity of water-limited cropping systems can be reduced by untimely distribution of water as well as cold and heat stress. The objective of this study was to evaluate the predictive accuracy of the Kansas Water Budget (KSWB) model for crop water use and grain productivity of grain sorghum and winter wheat grown in a range of crop sequences. The relationship of grain yield to crop water use, reported in several crop sequence studies conducted in Bushland, TX, and Colby and Tribune, KS, was compared against the KSWB modeling results. Texas High Plains (THP), one of the most important food and fiber producing regions in the Ogallala Aquifer Region, currently faces rapid decline of groundwater levels. Predicted climate extremes and high temporal variability in growing season precipitation may require growers to pump more groundwater from the Ogallala Aquifer to meet higher crop water demand. The purpose of this research is to provide input into the water planning process for select subareas in southwest Kansas. Stakeholder input suggests that a reduction in groundwater use may be desirable in order to preserve the Ogallala Aquifer and extend its economic contribution to both the producer and the regional economy. In an endeavor to define the benefits and costs of water conservation policy, this research estimates measures of producer net profits and regional value added and places a monetary value on the conserved groundwater. The Ogallala Aquifer is the only reliable source of freshwater in the Southern High Plains (SHP) and is used extensively to build a strong agricultural economy with a significant impact on global food security. Groundwater models capable of simulating human-hydrologic-climate interactions are crucial to guide future water management and policy planning endeavors in this water stressed region. A well-defined conceptual model is a necessary first-step in that direction. The Lower Mississippi River Basin (LMRB) is an internationally-important region of intensive agricultural crop production that relies heavily on the underlying Mississippi River Valley Alluvial Aquifer (MRVAA) for irrigation. Extensive irrigation coupled with the region's geology have led to significant aquifer decline. The response to the decline has been multi-faceted. Research related to three responses are highlighted: innovation in rice irrigation, on-farm reservoirs, and managed aquifer recharge. Irrigated rice grown in Arkansas, which is nearly 50% of annual U.S. rice production, accounts for a significant portion of aquifer withdrawal. Arabidopsis has 5 paralogs of the S-adenosylmethionine decarboxylase (SAMDC) gene. Neither their specific role in development nor the role of positive/purifying selection in genetic divergence of this gene family is known. While some data are available on organ-specific expression of AtSAMDC1, AtSAMDC2, AtSAMDC3 and AtSAMDC4, not much is known about their promoters including AtSAMDC5, which is believed to be non-functional. (1) Phylogenetic analysis of the five AtSAMDC genes shows similar divergence pattern for promoters and coding sequences (CDSs), whereas, genetic divergence of 5’UTRs and 3’UTRs was independent of the promoters and CDSs; (2) while AtSAMDC1 and AtSAMDC4 promoters exhibit high …
