Theses
One in five students, or 15-20% of the population, has a language based learning disability. Dyslexia is the most common of the language based learning disabilities. Dyslexia is mainly a problem with reading accurately and fluently — Accuracy being identified as Letter Recognition and Fluency as Word Recognition.
This thesis looked into various educational applications that help dyslexic children and identified that they rely heavily on intensive instruction in phonetic code and the learning method employed by these applications do not create a lasting impact. The proposed solution integrated the symbol mastery method of learning to create a new digital …

Caterpillars are the soft bodied larvae of lepidopteran insects. They have evolved to occupy an extremely diverse range of natural environments and to locomote in complex three-dimensional structures without articulated joint or hydrostatic control. These animals make excellent bio-inspiration for the field of soft robotics because of their diversity and adaptability. In this paper, we present SquMA Bot, a caterpillar-inspired soft robot. The robot's body is primarily composed of a soft viscoelastic foam, and it is actuated using a motor-tendon system. SquMA Bot is able to mimic the inching gait of a caterpillar and can use its flexible body to …

The first observation of top quark production in proton-nucleus collisions is reported using proton-lead data collected by the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of psNN 8.16 TeV. The measurement is performed using events with exactly one isolated electron or muon candidate and at least four jets. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 174 nb−1. The significance of the t¯t signal against the background-only hypothesis is above 5 standard deviations. The measured cross section is σ ¯ 45 8 nb, consistent with predictions from perturbative quantum chromodynamics.

The ignorance of the current state of gender equality in the film industry is not just on the rise, but the knowledge of such has been non existent for decades. Women were largely involved in the film industry during the turn of the century, until sound film became popular and Hollywood turned into a big business. As of 2016, only seven percent of the top filmmakers are women. The lack of female filmmakers in Hollywood is not only effecting the women who are trying to make a living doing what they love, but also the young and old female audiences …

Respons Konduktansi Stomata Beberapa Genotipe Tebu Sebagai Parameter Toleransi Terhadap Stress Abiotik, Mochamad Arief Soleh, Ranu Manggala, Yudithia Maxiselly, Mira Ariyanti, Intan Ratna Dewi Anjarsari
Jurnal Kultivasi

Analysing The Sentiment Expressed By Political Audiences On Twitter: The Case Of The 2017 Uk General Election, M Plummer, Ma Palomino, Gl Masala
School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics
A significant amount of research on the intersection of sentiment analysis and social media platforms has been published in the past few years. While previous studies have focused on methods to identify the polarity of online posts, little has been done in terms of using the impact of such posts to enhance the discovery and description of trends in real time. Here, we present a tool for the retrieval and analysis of microblogging posts in real time. We have gathered a large sample of tweets related to the 2017 UK General Election. We introduce a novel classification of the polarity …

Aerodynamic Study Of Stability And Control Of Straight Flying-Wings, Kevin Hainline, Ramesh K. Agarwal
Aerodynamic Study Of Stability And Control Of Straight Flying-Wings, Kevin Hainline, Ramesh K. Agarwal
Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science Independent Study
The bell-spanload, or bell-shaped lift distribution, gives proverse yaw for outer aileron deflections, a key factor in controlling a tailless vehicle. Study of bell-spanload applications have been limited to swept wings with elevon control schemes, relying on a well-tuned proverse yaw response for a differential elevon deflection. In examining unswept wings, symmetric outer control surface deflections have minimal associated pitching moment, allowing their use in adjusting the lift distribution to optimize for a wide range of flight conditions. Lateral-directional control of bell-spanloads can be improved by the use of an additional set of ailerons inboard of the mid-span vortices. The …
Hodge Theory On Transversely Symplectic Foliations, Yi Lin
Hodge Theory On Transversely Symplectic Foliations, Yi Lin
Mathematical Sciences: Faculty Publications
In this paper, we develop symplectic Hodge theory on transversely symplectic foliations. In particular, we establish the symplectic dδ-lemma for any such foliations with the (transverse) s-Lefschetz property. As transversely symplectic foliations include many geometric structures, such as contact manifolds, co-symplectic manifolds, symplectic orbifolds, and symplectic quasi-folds as special examples, our work provides a unifying treatment of symplectic Hodge theory in these geometries.
As an application, we show that on compact K-contact manifolds, the s-Lefschetz property implies a general result on the vanishing of cup products, and that the cup length of a 2n+1 dimensional compact K-contact manifold with the …

Dream And Reality: The Selective Implementation Of The Kessler Plan In Dallas, Molly A. Plummer
Landscape Architecture Masters & Design Theses - Archive
This research examines George Kessler’s 1911 A City Plan for Dallas to understand the gaps between the ideals of the City Beautiful era plan and impact on the realized physical design of the city. As inequality rises in our urban centers (insert citation), it is increasingly important for us to understand our social and political environments that shaped the landscapes that physically reinforce that inequity. As stated by Roy Rosenzweig and Elizabeth Blackmar in their history of Central Park, “its meaning as a public institution also has two dimensions: its political character as property and its cultural character as an …
