The purpose of this thesis is to investigate and develop a framework for connected six-legged robots which can be used as a Robotic Operating System (ROS) based research platform. The research presented aims to purvey the necessary engineering and scientific steps needed to evolve a consumer-grade connected toy into a fully functioning and highly capable robotic system. Such a platform can be used to simulate and implement novel biologically inspired swarm research. Crawling robots have the advantage of being able to scale terrains which wheeled mobile robots may not and possess many interesting characteristics. Over 50% of mothers in rural Mexico have high depressive symptoms, and their children's health and development are likely to be negatively affected. A critical question is whether children vary in their vulnerability to the effects of high maternal depressive symptoms according to their indigenous ethnicity, maternal education, or household wealth. Our sample included 4442 mothers and 5503 children from an evaluation of Mexico's social welfare program. Maternal depressive symptoms were assessed using the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression (CES-D) Scale, and child behavior was measured using an adapted version of the Behavior Problems Index (BPI). The present study sought to determine the effectiveness of newly developed low calorie chocolate using modified fat through enzymatic interesterification process as cocoa butter substitute of male Sprague Dawley rats (n = 35) compared to cocoa butter as control. Body weight gains did not differ significantly (p>0.05) in all the test groups fed with chocolates which were using different types of fats. Triacylglycerol and cholesterol test showed no significant difference (p>0.05) for all treatment samples. in this study, a pancreatic lipase hydrolysis was performed to determine the fatty acid composition of the sn-2 position of the structure lipids.

The translation of personal genomics to precision medicine depends on the accurate interpretation of the multitude of genetic variants observed for each individual. However, even when genetic variants are predicted to modify a protein, their functional implications may be unclear. Many diseases are caused by genetic variants affecting important protein features, such as enzyme active sites or interaction interfaces. The scientific community has catalogued millions of genetic variants in genomic databases and thousands of protein structures in the Protein Data Bank. Background: Pharmacist involvement has been shown to improve various aspects of patient care. Patients undergoing knee and hip replacement surgery generally experience post-operative pain and discomfort. Pain control can impact patient satisfaction, as reported by the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey.

Objective: The current pilot study aims to measure the potential impact that incorporating pharmacists into preoperative patient education programs has on the response to select HCAHPS questions.

Robert(o) Schopflochers Integration in sein Exilland Argentinien mag uns außergewöhnlich erscheinen. Einerseits war sie angesichts des beruflichen Erfolges als Siedlungsverwalter, Kaufmann und als in Spanisch schreibender Autor erfolgreich. Andrerseits blieb die Eingliederung begrenzt. Denn so tief waren die in der Kindheit und Jugend gewachsenen deutsch-jüdischen Wurzeln, dass sie ihn nicht losließen und letztendlich seine Reintegration als Schriftsteller in Deutschland bedingten und ermöglichten. Dabei prägte das Überschreiten kultureller, sprachlicher und historischer Grenzen sein Werk bis hin zu einer Rolle als Kulturvermittler. Anhand seines Lebensweges, des schriftstellerischen Werdegangs und seiner Texte sollen die folgenden Ausführungen diese Entwicklung des Autors nachvollziehen.

Toughening Of Bisphenol-A Diglycidyl Ether-Based Epoxy By Modification With Hydroxyl-Terminated Liquid Natural Rubber, Pham H. L., Do B. T., Pham T. S., Le D. G.

ASEAN Journal on Science and Technology for Development

Hydroxyl-terminated liquid natural rubbers (HTNRs), prepared by the Photo-Fenton reaction, were used to modify bisphenol-A diglycidyl ether-based epoxy (DGEBA). A chemical link between HTNRs and the epoxy resin was promoted employing toluene diisocyanate. The reactions between elastomers and epoxy resin were followed by FTIR. The mechanical properties of the composites were evaluated and the microstructure was investigated using scanning electronic microscopy. The results showed that the impact resistance of HTNR-modified DGEBA was superior to that of the pure epoxy resin. Smartphones have become ubiquitous in modern society, increasing the likelihood of being caught on camera. On July 17th, 2014, a cell phone video of Staten Island police officers wrongfully killing Eric Garner reignited a national controversy on the nature of police violence, and set off a wave of citizen-surveillance through cell phones. By reviewing prior 1st and 4th Amendment court cases, I argue that citizens do indeed have a right to record on-duty police officers, and police do not have the right to conduct a warrantless search or seizure of a phone. We investigate the connection between crystal symmetry and temporal and spectral properties of high-order harmonics in solids. We calculate the orientation-dependent harmonic spectrum driven by an intense, linearly polarized infrared laser field, using a momentum-space description of the generation process in terms of strong-field-driven electron dynamics on the band structure. We show that the orientation dependence of both the spectral yield and the subcycle time profile of the harmonic radiation can be understood in terms of the coupling strengths and relative curvatures of the valence band and the low-lying conduction bands. On 2017 June 8 at 02:01:16.49 UTC, a gravitational-wave (GW) signal from the merger of two stellar-mass black holes was observed by the two Advanced Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory detectors with a network signal-to-noise ratio of 13. This system is the lightest black hole binary so far observed, with component masses of 12 +7 -2 M⨀ and 7 +2 -2 M⨀ (90% credible intervals). These lie in the range of measured black hole masses in low-mass X-ray binaries, thus allowing us to compare black holes detected through GWs with electromagnetic observations. The heterogeneity of autism presents many challenges in understanding the disorder. The current study employs objective measures to examine visual evoked potential (VEP) responses of children with idiopathic autism (iASD) and Phelan-Mcdermid syndrome (PMS) to a contrast-reversing checkerboard in both long (60-second) and short (2-second) duration conditions.

This thesis examines how science shaped Giacomo Balla’s pioneering style of abstraction. A reconsideration of his oeuvre from 1900 to the advent of Italian Futurism demonstrates that his artistic vision of light—indebted to popular scientific imagery and what might be called "prosthetic" visual technologies—anticipated the emergent Futurist aesthetics.

We present a tiled delay estimation technique in the context of Mobile Cloud Computing (MCC) environments. We examine its accuracy in the presence of multiple sources for (1) sub-sample delays and also (2) in the presence of phase-wrap around. Phase wrap-around is prevalent in MCC because the separation of acoustic sources may be large. We show that tiling a histogram of instantaneous phase estimates can improve delay estimates when phase-wrap around is sig- nificantly present and also when multiple sources are present.
