This collection primarily concerns Vernon Simeon Plemion Grant (1902-1990), who is most known for his illustration of the Kellogg’s characters Snap!™, Crackle!™ and Pop!™, his life and his work.

The Johnson Family Papers consist of correspondence, medical records, publications, invitations, memorandums, education journals, and a ledger belonging to and concerning Dr. David Bancroft Johnson, founder and first president of Winthrop College. There is also a small collection of photographs concerning and belonging to Dr. Johnson which include portraits of Dr. Johnson and scenes from Winthrop’s campus grounds. Also included in the Johnson Family Papers is correspondence concerning Mrs. D.B. Johnson (Mai Rutledge Smith Johnson) as well as Dr. and Mrs. Johnson’s son Bancroft. Frances Mikell Tupper (1924 –) attended Winthrop College from 1941 through 1945. She served as treasurer of her sophomore class and was, on occasion, invited to the President’s House (for tea). The William H. Grier, Sr. Papers include correspondence, clippings, memoranda, copies of the company newsletter, telegrams, and other papers, relating to the history of the Rock Hill Printing Company (RHPFC) and to the career of William H. Grier, Sr. (1901-1983) who was a company executive and trustee to Winthrop College (1953-1975). The Rock Hill Printing and Finishing Company was founded in 1929 in Rock Hill, SC and was known locally as “The Bleachery.” It was one the nation’s largest textile finishing plants at its height. This collection contains photocopies of the personal diary, correspondence, paper clippings and photographs of Elma Merritt Wilkerson, a Winthrop graduate (Class of 1908). The papers contain diary entries about her family life from 1900-1902, her correspondence with her future husband John S. Wilkerson in 1910, and diary entries spanning from 1919 to 1938. Also included are copies of newspaper clippings, photographs, family reunion information and a booklet about York County title “York County: Yesterday and Today 1550 to 2005” written by Elma Merritt Wilkerson’s son, John Wilkerson.
