The population of New Hampshire grew by 7,800 between July of 2016 and July of 2017 to 1,343,000 according to new Census Bureau estimates. This is the largest population gain for the state since 2005 and 60 percent greater than last year, though it remains modest compared to gains in the 1980s and 1990s. Migration accounted for nearly all of the growth. New Hampshire had a net domestic migration gain of nearly 4,700 residents in migration exchanges with other states last year, compared to just 1,800 in the previous year.

The ways that fibroblast cells remodel their local microenvironment is critical to a number of pathologies. To quantify this in a 3D environment, I an existing MATLAB script was modified to process the qualitative, visual information from confocal microscopy images and generate quantitative graphs representing the density of collagen around a fibroblast as a function of distance from the cell. While the earlier script used each 2D image from a confocal image stack and dilated the shape of the recognized cell to extract to find the coordinates of the surrounding collagen. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a rapidly progressive fatal neurologic disease. Currently, there is no cure for ALS and the available treatments only extend life by an average of a few months. The majority of ALS patients die within 2–5 years of diagnosis, though survival time varies depending on disease progression (1,2). For approximately 10% of patients, ALS is familial, meaning it and has a genetic component; the remaining 90% have sporadic ALS, where etiology is unknown, but might be linked to environmental factors such as chemical exposures (e.g., heavy …

Civic engagement has become an important component of higher education practice that assists colleges and universities in fulfilling their civic mission and public purpose. This reflective essay outlines an oftentimes forgotten aspect of that work—how we integrate students into the life of a community and help them develop a sense of interdependence with it. Parental Perceptions Of Sleep Hygiene Practices Of Urban, Minority School-Aged Children: A Descriptive Qualitative Study, Darlene M. Dickson

Results from an expanding body of research suggest that sleep problems resulting in inadequate sleep ;may be particularly prevalent among children of minority status and/or low socioeconomic status (SES), and healthcare professionals should be especially attuned to screening for sleep problems in these populations, especially in the case of children with daytime behavioral concerns or attentional problems (Daniel, Grant, Chawla & Kothare, 2010).

The purpose of this descriptive qualitative research study was to describe the sleep hygiene practices of healthy, urban minority school children ages 6-12 years old in the Bronx from the perspective of parents /caregivers.

Purpose: The clinical nurse specialist (CNS) mentored a unit based staff nurse as Champion of Performance Improvement through nursing's shared governance council.

Significance: Within shared governance, nurses are empowered to make decisions about practice, quality, and development. A staff nurse, acting as a unit based champion, can role-model effective decision making affecting clinical practice and patient outcomes. Performance improvement is one area that benefits from staff nurse participation. CNSs can be instrumental in developing staff nurse knowledge of and skills in performance improvement.

This article examines how a social venture transitions from nascent to formal status and argues that the transformation of the organization set in motion by establishing formal boundaries is a deeply profound one. The X-ray crystal structure of the dapE-encoded N-succinyl-l,l-diaminopimelic acid desuccinylase from Haemophilus influenzae (HiDapE) bound by the products of hydrolysis, succinic acid and l,l-DAP, was determined at 1.95 Å. Surprisingly, the structure bound to the products revealed that HiDapE undergoes a significant conformational change in which the catalytic domain rotates ∼50° and shifts ∼10.1 Å (as measured at the position of the Zn atoms) relative to the dimerization domain. This heretofore unobserved closed conformation revealed significant movements within the catalytic domain compared to that of wild-type HiDapE, which results in effectively closing off access to …

Treatment for opioid use disorder in the United States evolved in response to changing federal policy and advances in science. Inpatient care began in 1935 with the US Public Health Service Hospitals in Lexington, Kentucky, and Fort Worth, Texas. Outpatient clinics emerged in the 1960s to provide aftercare. Research advances led to opioid agonist and opioid antagonist therapies. When patients complete opioid withdrawal, return to use is often rapid and frequently deadly. US and international authorities recommend opioid agonist therapy (i.e., methadone or buprenorphine). Opioid antagonist therapy (i.e., extended-release naltrexone) may also inhibit return to use. Prevention efforts emphasize public …

This project grows out of my dissatisfaction with a number of popular critiques against Mircea Eliade’s approach to religious phenomena, in particular the charges along the lines that his academic writings are crypto-theological, ahistorical, and fascist. The set of questions I ask are as follows: Does Eliade assume the existence of a transcendent, autonomous entity in his explanation of religion, as his critics claim? Is “ahistorical” accurate to capture Eliade’s sense of the relationship between religious phenomena and history? Previous research has shown that in recognition tasks, a distinctive feature can increase hit rates and decrease false alarm rates associated with an isolated item in a similarity space. However, this is inconsistent with the prediction of the global activation models, such as the Generalized Context Model. Since it is generally assumed that recognition and categorization operate under the same similarity-based generalization mechanism, a distinctive feature should also affect categorization judgments in a similar manner. The performances of Martin Lawrence, Tyler Perry and Eddie Murphy’s as mammies in drag are the selected texts for the project. Forgotten Aulacothorax Boheman, 1858, A Senior Synonym Of Orthaltica Crotch, 1873 (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae: Galerucinae: Alticini), Jan Bezdek, Alexander S. Konstantinov

Discovery of the holotype of Aulacothorax exilis Boheman, 1858, originally described in Scydmaeninae (Staphylinidae), in the collections of Naturhistoriska Riksmuseet Stockholm in Sweden revealed that this species is actually a leaf beetle (Chrysomelidae) belonging to the genus until now known as Orthaltica Crotch, 1873. Because Aulacothorax has been available since 1858 and Orthaltica only since 1873, we here synonymize Orthaltica with Aulacothorax. Aulacothorax exilis is redescribed and illustrated.

Parental refusal or delay in administering vaccines for their children has become a public health concern, contributing to an increased risk of vaccine-preventable diseases. Informed decision-making is necessary for parents deciding to immunize, helping parents understand the evidence-based information will aid in reducing concerns. The method was providing a parental education about immunizations and vaccine schedules, with the use of a health teaching corroborate, about me, science, explain/advise a (CASE) method to help families in making an informed decision to immunize.

Background

The Mediterranean diet is characterised by the high consumption of extra virgin olive oil, fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes and nuts; moderate consumption of fish, poultry, eggs and dairy; and low consumption of red meat and sweets. Cross sectional, longitudinal and intervention studies indicate that a Mediterranean diet may be effective for the prevention of cardiovascular disease and dementia. However, previous research suggests that an Australian population may find red meat restrictions difficult, which could affect long term sustainability of the diet.

Electrospinning is an important, widely used process to generate nanofibers. However, there is still an open window for different designs of both spinneret and collector electrodes to be investigated. This paper introduces the impact of new design of conical spinneret electrode on the generated electrospun nanofibers. In this work, the conical feeder is used to generate electrospun Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) nanofibers, and being compared to the traditional needle feeder at the same processing conditions.
