Contemporary Trends In Management Education Versus Student Expectations, Agnieszka Postuła Dec 2017

Contemporary Trends In Management Education Versus Student Expectations, Agnieszka Postuła

Studia i Materiały Wydział Zarządzania Uniwersytet Warszawski

Modern universities are experiencing constant changes which are extremely meaningful nowadays. These changes reflect on the further directions of the management education development in a broad context. This paper presents the results of research on the condition of management education in the students’ perception. The methodology of this research was inspired by ethnography and based on anthropological interviews (12 conducted with first-year students and 13 with last-year students). They pointed out some university domains insufficiently supervised by the academic authorities both financially and mentally. The conclusions presented in the text are based on the expectations of students confronted with the …

The Scrivener’S Secrets Seen Through The Spyglass: Gchq And The International Right To Journalistic Expression, Matthew B. Hurowitz Dec 2017

The Scrivener’S Secrets Seen Through The Spyglass: Gchq And The International Right To Journalistic Expression, Matthew B. Hurowitz

Brooklyn Journal of International Law

As part of the U.K.’s electronic surveillance program, the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ), started in 1909 to combat German Spies, now collects metadata from both foreigners and its own citizens. Through the express statutory authority of the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act of 2000 (RIPA), and a loophole in section 94 of the Telecommunications Act of 1984, the GCHQ collects metadata, which is all of the information that is extrinsic to the actual contents of a communication. The GCHQ can request an authorization from a public authority—a member of its own staff—to collect traffic data, service use information, or subscriber …

Subject — Not Only Object — Of Study: Basque Studies, Aitor Anduaga Dec 2017

Subject — Not Only Object — Of Study: Basque Studies, Aitor Anduaga

BOGA: Basque Studies Consortium Journal

To establish a discipline implies a responsibility. Whose is it? As vascólogos (or experts in Basque studies) and vascófilos (or scholars of the Basque language), our first thought should be addressed to discern the Basque studies as an object of study or as a subject of study. This distinction is fundamental. The historical review of the condition of object and/or subject in these studies reveals a crucial feature that defines both us and the Basque studies: our renunciation of their status of subject. This paper suggests a double task to address this deficiency: instituting, not renouncing, Basque studies as a …

The Selfie Of Dorian Gray: Adapting Literature For Modern Media, Darby L. Campbell

Honors Theses

Picture Perfect Dori Gray is a modern adaptation of The Picture of Dorian Gray set in modern America and starring a female Dorian Gray. The work is set up as a web series that takes place on YouTube in the form of a vlog run by Dori herself. The transmedia world consists of both YouTube content and Twitter content that all contribute to one over-arching story world. Modernizing the narrative, setting, media, and characters highlights which literary themes and motifs of the original novel are still relevant today and which symbols have changed since publication. The greatest effect on the …

Teaching Students How To Make Their Dreams Come True: An Autoethnography Of Developing And Teaching The Dream Research Methods Course, E. James Baesler Dec 2017

Teaching Students How To Make Their Dreams Come True: An Autoethnography Of Developing And Teaching The Dream Research Methods Course, E. James Baesler

The Qualitative Report

How to make students’ dreams come true is the central focus of this autoethnography that chronicles the story of the transformation of a traditional undergraduate communication research methods course into a new and creative dream research methods course. Pedagogical and institutional issues in teaching the traditional methods course join personal influences in my life story to birth the new dream research methods course. The content and format of the new course are described chronologically using personal stories, student perspectives, advice to teachers, and reflection questions. I encourage teachers, by experimenting with the ideas in the dream research methods course, to …

Older People In A Community Gospel Choir: Musical Engagement And Social Connection, Dawn Joseph, Jane Southcott

The Qualitative Report

This research explores the role of community music in the lives of older Australians. This qualitative case study investigated the meanings and understandings ascribed by participants to their musical engagement in the South of the River Community Gospel Choir. This mixed a cappella SATB choir was formed in 2002 in Melbourne. The choir began with a repertoire of African-American Gospel music and South African Freedom Songs. With time their musical choices have transitioned to include more contemporary Australian composed works. The choir sings in diverse community settings such as high security prisons, palliative care, hospitals and the more common range …

Cracking Down: A Longitudinal Study Of The Judiciary's Changing War On Drugs, Jennifer P. Schrauth Dec 2017

Cracking Down: A Longitudinal Study Of The Judiciary's Changing War On Drugs, Jennifer P. Schrauth

Honors Capstones

In the United States, drugs continue to be a longstanding problem, causing the addictions and deaths of millions of people. Although drug and drug epidemic trends change with the passage of time, their similarly harmful effects on humanity and society have remained the same. Through drug rehabilitation, particularly Drug Courts, a great deal of the chaos caused by drugs has been stopped. Through research, including the examination of studies, facts, epidemics, drug trends over time, and personal experience working with judges who have helped to create Drug Courts, I conclude that adaptability and group effort were the key pieces in …
