Sport Commitment Among Adult Recreational Soccer Players: Test Of An Expanded Model, Amanda L. Frayeh, Beth Lewis Jan 2017

Sport Commitment Among Adult Recreational Soccer Players: Test Of An Expanded Model, Amanda L. Frayeh, Beth Lewis

International Journal of Exercise Science

International Journal of Exercise Science 10(1): 4-24, 2017. Adult sport leagues provide opportunities for physical activity (PA), but little is known about adults’ commitment to recreational sports. We proposed two expanded versions of Scanlan and colleagues’ sport commitment model (SCM) to explore psychosocial factors related to adults’ participation in these leagues. Model 1 proposed athletic identity and social cohesion as additional predictors of commitment. Previous research found these variables to be positively related to commitment, but had not systematically examined them within the context of the SCM. We also explored participation in moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) as a behavioral manifestation …

Analytics In Sport Marketing, Ceyda Mumcu, Gil Fried

Sport Management Faculty Publications

The use of analytics has been growing throughout the sport industry. Although the concepts of analytics and big data are frequently used in the sport industry and highlighted in numerous media outlets, sport management students often do not have a strong understanding of why and how analytics are important for their future career, especially as it relates to sport marketing. This case study describes a fictitious student’s interaction with an industry professional who is an expert on Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and marketing analytics in the sport industry, and the student’s desire to be an intern in the Analytics Department …

Examining Private-Label Brand Equity Dimensions: Do Brand Equity Dimensions Differ For Different Plbs Of The Same Store?, Paul Trapp, Musa Pinar, Tulay Girard

Business Faculty Presentations

Private-label brands (PLB) today are a well-established facet in many product categories worldwide, and as such have increasingly captured the attention of researchers. Even so, the consumer-based brand equity (CBBE) of PLBs (PL-CBBE) has remained largely unexplored (Cuneo et al 2012). To help fll this void, this study examines the CBBE and its underlying dimensions of two different product category PLBs (Great Value, Equate) of the same retailer (Wal-Mart).

What Drives Endorsement Earnings For Superstar Athletes?, Daniel Rascher, Terry Eddy, Oskr, Llc Jan 2017

What Drives Endorsement Earnings For Superstar Athletes?, Daniel Rascher, Terry Eddy, Oskr, Llc

Sport Management

Athletes’ endorsement earnings receive significant attention in the trade/popular press, but the academic literature on this issue is sparse. Thus, the purpose of the study was to examine factors that drive variation in endorsement earnings. Resulting analyses indicated the Positive Q Score measure (likability) was worth about $750,000-$1 million for each unit of the scale, while the Negative Q Score measure was statistically insignificant. One unit increases in Exposure and Familiarity were worth roughly $600,000 and $200,000, respectively. These findings can be used by athletes, agents, and sponsors to determine estimates, or fair-market value, for endorsement deals.
