Impact Of Vertical Internals On The Hydrodynamics And Heat Transfer Coefficient In A Gas-Solid Fluidized Bed, Haidar Moafaq Taofeeq Jan 2017

Impact Of Vertical Internals On The Hydrodynamics And Heat Transfer Coefficient In A Gas-Solid Fluidized Bed, Haidar Moafaq Taofeeq

Doctoral Dissertations

"This research studied the impact of the dense vertical immersed heat exchanging tubes on the gas and solids hydrodynamic characteristics, flow regime, pressure drop, and heat transfer in a 0.14 m inside diameter gas-solid fluidized bed column of. Two sizes of vertical internal tube bundles (0.0127 and 0.0254 m) of circular arrangement have been implemented to represent the heat exchange tubes covering 25% of the column cross-sectional area. The experimental work was achieved at different operating conditions and various solids particle types that differ in average particle size, solids density, particles shape, and particles sphericity. The experimental measurements were performed …

Manufacturing Of Advanced Continuous Fiber Reinforced Composites For High Temperature Applications, James Robert Nicholas Jan 2017

Manufacturing Of Advanced Continuous Fiber Reinforced Composites For High Temperature Applications, James Robert Nicholas

Doctoral Dissertations

"New resin systems have enabled composites to be considered as attractive alternatives in structural applications that require material to be stronger, lighter and/or more resilient to environmental effects. The current work is on the development of processes to produce continuous fiber reinforced materials from two state of the art resin systems. Two processes were developed to produce continuous fiber reinforced ceramic materials from a preceramic polymer. The first was a vacuum forming process developed using the out-of-autoclave polymer composite manufacturing technique in conjunction with the polymer infiltration and pyrolysis process to produce ceramic composite material of zirconium diboride-silicon carbide reinforced …

Geophysical Interpretation And Static Reservoir Modeling Of Structurally Complex Reservoir, Rg Oil Field Area, Sirte Basin, Libya, Abdalla A. Abdelnabi Jan 2017

Geophysical Interpretation And Static Reservoir Modeling Of Structurally Complex Reservoir, Rg Oil Field Area, Sirte Basin, Libya, Abdalla A. Abdelnabi

Doctoral Dissertations

"Cambrian-Ordovician and Upper Cretaceous reservoir formations are found in the central western Sirte Basin, the main oil producing region in the Sirte Basin, Libya. As a result of changes in sedimentary environments and structural activities, a number of irregularities in reservoir continuity have developed, which negatively affected the overall performance of the reservoir. Effective simulation of such complex reservoirs can be achieved by integrating geophysical, geological, and petrophysical data to construct a reliable full-field static model, which has the potential to simulate the vertical and lateral variations in the reservoir formations. In this study, 2D and 3D seismic data acquired …

The Culture War: A Look At The Cultural Exception Principle In International Trade Law, Liz Schéré Jan 2017

The Culture War: A Look At The Cultural Exception Principle In International Trade Law, Liz Schéré

Fordham International Law Journal

In studying the concepts of trade and culture in the context of international law, it appears at first that the two are at odds: the cultural exception approach vouches for protectionism and national sovereignty while trade defends liberalization and globalization. However, within this distinction lies a misconception. Culture doesn’t necessarily reject trade. The word “exception” does. This study presents and analyzes the notion of cultural exception within the framework of international trade law, specifically examining the legal protections and recourses offered by the World Trade Organization (“WTO”) and alternative treaties and agreements (e.g. Canada-U.S. Free Trade Agreement (“CUSFTA”), United Nations …

The 'Africanization' Of International Investment Law: The Pan-African Investment Code And The Reform Of The International Investment Regime, Makane Moïse Mbengue, Stefanie Schacherer Jan 2017

The 'Africanization' Of International Investment Law: The Pan-African Investment Code And The Reform Of The International Investment Regime, Makane Moïse Mbengue, Stefanie Schacherer

Research Collection Yong Pung How School Of Law

The Pan-African Investment Code (PAIC) is the first continent-wide African model investment treaty elaborated under the auspices of the African Union. The PAIC has been drafted from the perspective of developing and least-developed countries with a view to promote sustainable development. The PAIC contains a number of Africa-specific and innovative features, which presumably makes it today a unique legal instrument. Written in a time where the international investment community is still debating the future of international investment law, this article seeks to present and contextualize this first African model investment treaty. The article highlights the most innovative features of the …

Stem, Video Game Play, & Gender = Personalization, Wendi M. Kappers

Publications

It is imperative when utilizing educational video games in K-12 classrooms that student preferences regarding game play, purpose, and design be considered to maximize game play efficiency for learning. As Web 2.0 content infiltrates our educational medium, student customization is key. This manuscript intends to share customization requests gleaned during an 18-week experimental study examining educational video game effects upon 7th graders enrolled in Mathematics and Mathematics 2 courses.

Programming Problems On Time Scales: Theory And Computation, Rasheed Basheer Al-Salih Jan 2017

Programming Problems On Time Scales: Theory And Computation, Rasheed Basheer Al-Salih

Doctoral Dissertations

"In this dissertation, novel formulations for several classes of programming problems are derived and proved using the time scales technique. The new formulations unify the discrete and continuous programming models and extend them to other cases "in between." Moreover, the new formulations yield the exact optimal solution for the programming problems on arbitrary isolated time scales, which solve an important open problem. Throughout this dissertation, six distinct classes of programming problems are presented as follows. First, the primal as well as the dual time scales linear programming models on arbitrary time scales are formulated. Second, separated linear programming primal and …

Layered Crustal And Mantle Structure And Anisotropy Beneath The Afar Depression And Malawi Rift Zone, Cory Alexander Reed Jan 2017

Layered Crustal And Mantle Structure And Anisotropy Beneath The Afar Depression And Malawi Rift Zone, Cory Alexander Reed

Doctoral Dissertations

"Although a wealth of geophysical data sets have been acquired within the vicinity of continental rift zones, the mechanisms responsible for the breakup of stable continental lithosphere are ambiguous. Eastern Africa is host to the largest contemporary rift zone on Earth, and is thus the most prominent site with which to investigate the processes which govern the rupture of continental lithosphere. The studies herein represent teleseismic analyses of the velocity and thermomechanical structure of the crust and mantle beneath the Afar Depression and Malawi Rift Zone (MRZ) of the East African Rift System. Within the Afar Depression, the first densely-spaced …

Inside The Black Box: Political Economy Of The Trans-Pacific Partnership's Encryption Clause, Han-Wei Liu Jan 2017

Inside The Black Box: Political Economy Of The Trans-Pacific Partnership's Encryption Clause, Han-Wei Liu

Research Collection Yong Pung How School Of Law

Among other provisions of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement, a new clause on encryption technology (‘Encryption Clause’) is particularly noteworthy. By tracing the history of decades-long encryption control, this article underscores how this clause implicates international order. Modern encryption technology was conceived and developed during World Wars. Painted by such a war-time legacy, encryption has been treated as a ‘dual-use’ technology and has been subject to export control since the end of World War II via the Coordinating Committee for the Control of Multinational Trade (COCOM) and, later, the Wassenaar Arrangement. With the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Western …
