I love to hold a newspaper in my hand, to feel it as I read it. Paper is, admittedly, not the most effective way to get the news. I have a detailed system for rehabilitating waterlogged copies and my snow blower has had a run in with one or two, but the overall user experience can't be beat.

Delphinids – Binned Detections Of Dolphin Echolocation Clicks In The Gulf Of Mexico, 2010-2012, John Hildebrand, Kait Frasier
C-IMAGE data
This dataset consists of delphinid echolocation clicks recorded at five sites in the Gulf of Mexico from May 2010 until March 2012. The sites are Desoto Canyon (DC), Dry Tortugas (DT), Green Canyon (GC), Main Pass (MP), and Mississippi Canyon (MC). Additional site information is contained in the deployment_info.csv file. Clicks were grouped into five-minute bins and clustered based on spectra. Clustered clicks are described herein as mean normalized spectra for each cluster formed, with the associated distribution of inter-click intervals (ICI) calculated from first time differences between clicks within each cluster.

Displacement Measurement Using A Laser Doppler Vibrometer Mounted On An Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, Piyush Garg
Electrical and Computer Engineering ETDs
The railroad network in the united states is one of the best in the world, handling around 40 percent of all US freight movement. To maintain the serviceability and cost-effective operation of the railway infrastructure, regular monitoring is essential. Bridges are a critical part of the railway infrastructure and their timely maintenance and repair are important. Measuring transverse bridge displacement under train loading can assist to determine the bridge condition. The traditional methods available for transverse displacement measurement include Linear Variable Differential Transducers (LVDT). However, irregular terrain, remote and inaccessible locations, and the height of railroad bridges make implementation of …
Ros-Enabled Framework For A Miniature Hexapod As A Mobile Robot Research Platform, Joseph Michael Kloeppel
Ros-Enabled Framework For A Miniature Hexapod As A Mobile Robot Research Platform, Joseph Michael Kloeppel
Electrical and Computer Engineering ETDs
The purpose of this thesis is to investigate and develop a framework for connected six-legged robots which can be used as a Robotic Operating System (ROS) based research platform. The research presented aims to purvey the necessary engineering and scientific steps needed to evolve a consumer-grade connected toy into a fully functioning and highly capable robotic system. Such a platform can be used to simulate and implement novel biologically inspired swarm research. Crawling robots have the advantage of being able to scale terrains which wheeled mobile robots may not and possess many interesting characteristics. The miniROaCH, miniature ROS-enabled and Crawling …

The translation of personal genomics to precision medicine depends on the accurate interpretation of the multitude of genetic variants observed for each individual. However, even when genetic variants are predicted to modify a protein, their functional implications may be unclear. Many diseases are caused by genetic variants affecting important protein features, such as enzyme active sites or interaction interfaces. The scientific community has catalogued millions of genetic variants in genomic databases and thousands of protein structures in the Protein Data Bank. Mapping mutations onto three-dimensional (3D) structures enables atomic-level analyses of protein positions that may be important for the stability …
Hospital Consumer Assessment Of Healthcare Providers And Systems Scores Relating To Pain Following The Incorporation Of Clinical Pharmacists Into Patient Education Prior To Joint Replacement Surgery, Erik Hefti, Michael Remington, Charles Lavallee
Hospital Consumer Assessment Of Healthcare Providers And Systems Scores Relating To Pain Following The Incorporation Of Clinical Pharmacists Into Patient Education Prior To Joint Replacement Surgery, Erik Hefti, Michael Remington, Charles Lavallee
Harrisburg University Faculty Works
Background: Pharmacist involvement has been shown to improve various aspects of patient care. Patients undergoing knee and hip replacement surgery generally experience post-operative pain and discomfort. Pain control can impact patient satisfaction, as reported by the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey.
Objective: The current pilot study aims to measure the potential impact that incorporating pharmacists into preoperative patient education programs has on the response to select HCAHPS questions.
Methods: Patient responses to two select HCAHPS questions related to pain were recorded for a year prior to pharmacist involvement in a comprehensive preoperative patient education program …

Objective Measures Of Electrophysiological Responses Of Children With Idiopathic Autism Spectrum Disorder And Phelan-Mcdermid Syndrome To A Contrast-Reversing Checkerboard, Chloe Brittenham
Theses and Dissertations
The heterogeneity of autism presents many challenges in understanding the disorder. The current study employs objective measures to examine visual evoked potential (VEP) responses of children with idiopathic autism (iASD) and Phelan-Mcdermid syndrome (PMS) to a contrast-reversing checkerboard in both long (60-second) and short (2-second) duration conditions.

Franz Roh And Visual Juxtaposition In Foto-Auge, Irini Zervas
Theses and Dissertations
This study of Foto-Auge (1929) is grounded on the approach of Franz Roh and aims to unlock the book’s meaning through an analysis of layout and visual sequence. This thesis also demonstrates how Foto-Auge proclaims photography’s ability not merely to record, but to disrupt any sense of reality in images.

Una Sensibilità Scientifica: Giacomo Balla’S Painting Of Light, 1900-1914, Luise Mahler
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis examines how science shaped Giacomo Balla’s pioneering style of abstraction. A reconsideration of his oeuvre from 1900 to the advent of Italian Futurism demonstrates that his artistic vision of light—indebted to popular scientific imagery and what might be called "prosthetic" visual technologies—anticipated the emergent Futurist aesthetics.

Sol Lewitt: The Synagogue Project, Fred Wasserman
Theses and Dissertations
In a unique architectural project, Sol LeWitt worked on the design of a new synagogue for Congregation Beth Shalom Rodfe Zedek in Chester, Connecticut (1996-2001). This thesis discusses the development of the artist’s ideas in drawings and models, his collaboration with architect Stephen L. Lloyd, and the realization of the project.

“A Desperate Pioneerism:” Laura Márquez’S Art And Social Engagement In 1960s Paraguay, Susan Breyer
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis examines the art and social engagement of Laura Márquez in 1960s Paraguay. Despite the challenging economic, political, and social contexts that Márquez encountered throughout the decade, she acted as an invaluable “transmitter” – both carrying international artistic forms and concepts into Paraguay, and diffusing her experience of local reality.
Tiled Time Delay Estimation In Mobile Cloud Computing Environments, Ruairí De Fréin
Tiled Time Delay Estimation In Mobile Cloud Computing Environments, Ruairí De Fréin
Conference papers
We present a tiled delay estimation technique in the context of Mobile Cloud Computing (MCC) environments. We examine its accuracy in the presence of multiple sources for (1) sub-sample delays and also (2) in the presence of phase-wrap around. Phase wrap-around is prevalent in MCC because the separation of acoustic sources may be large. We show that tiling a histogram of instantaneous phase estimates can improve delay estimates when phase-wrap around is sig- nificantly present and also when multiple sources are present. We report that error in the delay estimator is generally less than 5% of a sample, when the …
