Examining The Relationship Between Registered Nurses’ Turnover And The Benefits Of An Affirming Climate Of Diversity As Mediated By Workplace Outcomes, James Mark Clardy
Examining The Relationship Between Registered Nurses’ Turnover And The Benefits Of An Affirming Climate Of Diversity As Mediated By Workplace Outcomes, James Mark Clardy
Human Resource Development Theses and Dissertations
The Affordable Care Act has created within health care a growing demand for primary care services in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. The anticipated growth in need for registered nurses (RN) of 19% by 2020 is compounded by a current estimated national turnover rate greater than 17%. Human Resource Development (HRD) practitioners in health care are challenged to develop and implement interventions that can influence turnover in RNs despite identifying variables that effect turnover. This research explored how RN turnover can be positively affected by a government mandated requirement that health care create a diverse workforce and cultural competency. …
The Use Of Bicycle Workstations To Increase Physical Activity In Secondary Classrooms, Alicia Fedewa, Colleen Cornelius, Soyeon Ahn
The Use Of Bicycle Workstations To Increase Physical Activity In Secondary Classrooms, Alicia Fedewa, Colleen Cornelius, Soyeon Ahn
Educational, School, and Counseling Psychology Faculty Publications
BACKGROUND
To date, the majority of interventions have implemented classroom-based physical activity (PA) at the elementary level; however, there is both the potential and need to explore student outcomes at high-school level as well, given that very few studies have incorporated classroom-based PA interventions for adolescents. One exception has been the use of bicycle workstations within secondary classrooms. Using bicycle workstations in lieu of traditional chairs in a high school setting shows promise for enhancing adolescents’ physical activity during the school day.
PARTICIPANTS AND PROCEDURE
The present study explored the effects of integrating bicycle workstations into a secondary classroom setting …
Switching From A Semi-Computerized To An Online Employment Application System: A Case Study, Deanna House
Switching From A Semi-Computerized To An Online Employment Application System: A Case Study, Deanna House
Information Systems and Quantitative Analysis Faculty Publications
This case explores the switch from semi-computerized to an online employment application system. This case documents the struggles experienced with user expectations related to requirements and how customization of a third-party product derailed the project’s success. The project was eventually implemented, but not without a significant development effort to customize. The end project was over budget, over time, and did not have all of the functionality that the users were expecting. Key factors leading to the project failure were: lack of user involvement and participation throughout the project including documentation of requirements for the target system, lack of a dedicated …

Changing Changelessness: On The Genesis And Development Of The Doctrine Of Divine Immutability In The Ancient And Hellenic Period, Milton Wilcox
Changing Changelessness: On The Genesis And Development Of The Doctrine Of Divine Immutability In The Ancient And Hellenic Period, Milton Wilcox
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This project will track and explain the development of the Doctrine of Divine Immutability from early mythological and scriptural source material that seems to indicate that divine entities are changeable into metaphysical systems that demand a perfectly consistent deity. The Doctrine of Divine Immutability is a philosophical and theological postulate that has long been a staple of systematic metaphysics and theology, but its function in robust and fully formed systems is different than its function when it is first generated in Ancient Greece and Judah. Methodologically mostly primary sources are studied and compared with interpretive help from relevant secondary sources. …

Examining The Structure Of The Modus Operandi Questionnaire For Adult & Juvenile Sex Offenders, Judith Gayle Zatkin
Examining The Structure Of The Modus Operandi Questionnaire For Adult & Juvenile Sex Offenders, Judith Gayle Zatkin
Dissertations and Theses
Child sexual abuse is a pervasive crime that has numerous negative short and long-term impacts on its victims, as well as negative impacts for society. Modus Operandi (MO) is defined as a pattern of perpetration utilized by those who commit CSA to successfully abuse a child without detection. Understanding how CSA is perpetrated through MO is essential, as this construct influences both prevention of CSA, and treatment for victims and perpetrators. The Modus Operandi Questionnaire (Kaufman, 1991; MOQ) is the first and most comprehensive measurement tool for CSA MO, and is utilized by both researchers and clinicians. This study provides …

Francolouisianais In The 21st Century: Redrawing Identity Lines In A Community Experiencing Language Shift, Marguerite L. Perkins
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
The francophonie of south Louisiana today is characterized by a great deal of diversity - in terms of ethnicity, language practices, cultural practices, geography, and experience. The academic literature does not always reflect this diversity, however. Some ethnic groups are overshadowed by others in academic study, and the lines between them are often uncritically blurred. Discussions of language shift are regularly mired in assumptions of individuals’ complete linguistic and cultural assimilation based solely on their native use of English.
In this dissertation, I seek to problematize traditional accounts of assimilation and collective ethnic identity by highlighting the ways in which …

International Journal of Health Sciences Education
This paper describes an empirical approach to assessing pediatric residents' attitudes, knowledge and skills in primary care behavioral health. Outcomes from that assessment approach are presented from two pediatric residency training programs in the northeastern United States. Thirty-six pediatric residents completed attitudes, knowledge and skills surveys. The survey was developed to align with the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Policy Statement in 2009 citing aspirational competencies for pediatricians in primary care behavioral health. This alignment addressed both learner variables (attitudes, knowledge, and skills) as well as clinical presentations (ADHD, anxiety, depression, and suicide) highlighted in the policy statement. The survey specifically …
Using Standardized Patients For Training And Evaluating Medical Trainees In Behavioral Health, Jeffrey D. Shahidullah, Paul W. Kettlewell
Using Standardized Patients For Training And Evaluating Medical Trainees In Behavioral Health, Jeffrey D. Shahidullah, Paul W. Kettlewell
International Journal of Health Sciences Education
Training delivered to medical students and residents in behavioral health is widely acknowledged to be inadequate. While the use of standardized patients is common in medical training and education for physical health conditions via the adherence to clinical protocols for evaluation and treatment, this approach is infrequently used for behavioral health conditions. Used under specific circumstances, standardized patient encounters have long been considered a reliable method of training and assessing trainee performance on addressing physical health conditions, and are even comparable to ratings of directly observed encounters with real patients. This paper discusses common issues and challenges that arise in …
“A Prey To Their Teeth”: Puritan Sermons And Ministerial Writings On Indians During King Philip’S War, Gregory Michna
“A Prey To Their Teeth”: Puritan Sermons And Ministerial Writings On Indians During King Philip’S War, Gregory Michna
Sermon Studies
King Philip’s War encouraged the construction of barbaric Native American typologies by puritan ministers through sermons and wartime histories. While select Algonquians in New England invested in a hybridized identity as a “Praying Indian” during the decades before the war, martial circumstances encouraged ministers to emphasize indigenous savagery, which outweighed earlier efforts to demonstrate the Christian piety of native converts. English texts outlining God’s providential wrath linked the contemporaneous war to Old Testament punishments meted out to the Hebrews. This typological reading of current events also superimposed the characteristics of heathen barbarians on Native Americans irrespective of their allegiance, offering …

Effects Of Mobile Telephone Electromagnetic Field On Electroencephalogram Recordings And Auditory Information Processing Speed In Undergraduate Students, Laura A. Kaneta
Effects Of Mobile Telephone Electromagnetic Field On Electroencephalogram Recordings And Auditory Information Processing Speed In Undergraduate Students, Laura A. Kaneta
Psychology Undergraduate Work
This study aimed to examine the effect of a mobile telephone electromagnetic field (MP- EMF) on human brain bioelectric activity at the T3 location and information processing speed. Human brain bioelectric activity was assessed by calculating power spectral density (PSD) values from electroencephalogram (EEG) recordings, and information processing speed was assessed by the Paced Auditory Serial Addition Test (PASAT). Eighty-four people (ages 18-25) participated in this study. Each subject had two consecutive 15 minute single-channel EEGs (baseline and treatment) taken with either a T3/T5 or T3/CZ monopolar montage configuration. The treatment EEGs consisted of either exposure to a MP-EMF or …
