Parents: Active Partners In The Educational Achievement Of Their Children, Michael O'Neill, Shane Lavery, Anne Coffey
Parents: Active Partners In The Educational Achievement Of Their Children, Michael O'Neill, Shane Lavery, Anne Coffey
eJournal of Catholic Education in Australasia
Parents exercise a significant influence on student achievement and psychosocial functioning within the school environment. However, the best way to involve parents as active partners in the education of their children is not always evident. This article explores the perceptions of parents and their role in the academic achievement of students in nine high performing Catholic secondary schools in Western Australia. Initially, the review of literature focuses on three constructs: relational trust, parental involvement and policy documents for Catholic schools. Data collection involved a series of focus group interviews in which parents were invited to reflect not only on their …

The Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm: A Means To Discernment Of Faith And Values In A Spanish Language And Literature Curriculum, Ángeles González-Aller, Kim Hernández
Jesuit Higher Education: A Journal
The language classroom may not commonly be considered a site for inquiry into faith and values, but a pedagogy that combines foreign language study and values inquiry can offer students effective language acquisition and a step along the path toward individual moral formation. This article examines an approach to teaching language and literature that is framed by the Ignatian pedagogical paradigm, a learning method drawn from the Jesuit approach to education. Professors from a Christian liberal arts university describe how they use the Ignatian pedagogical paradigm in a two-semester, third-year Spanish language curriculum as a framework to guide the encounter …
To Heal, Escape: Using Theatre Arts To Promote Holistic Health In The Clinical Setting, John Filegar
To Heal, Escape: Using Theatre Arts To Promote Holistic Health In The Clinical Setting, John Filegar
Senior Honors Theses
The purpose of this thesis is to provide an argument for the implementation of theatre arts therapy in the clinical setting. The effects of traditional art therapies involving visual arts, expressive arts, and music on the holistic health of the patient in the clinical setting have been thoroughly researched and understood. However, the extent of the influence of theatre arts therapy on the holistic health of individuals in the clinical setting lacks sufficient evidence and therefore cannot be compared to the influence of traditional art therapies on the holistic health of individuals in the same setting. Following an overview on …

Sisters Of St John Of God In The Kimberley: A Journey Near Completion And A Story Still To Be Told, Paul Lane
Sisters Of St John Of God In The Kimberley: A Journey Near Completion And A Story Still To Be Told, Paul Lane
Nulungu Insights
The Sisters of St John of God (SSJG) arrived in the Kimberley in 1907 and through the following 110 years played a critical role in the story of the region: when it comes to health, education, and social development in the Kimberley over the past century the SSJG are central characters. As with many other institutions, the SSJG have reached a time in their journey where they are seeking to transition their values and experiences into some lasting benefit for the Kimberley and its people. It may be that the Sisters will no longer have a physical presence in this …

Sigma Publications: Book Excerpts
This item record pertains to an excerpt from The Nurse Manager's Survival Guide (4th ed.), which is provided free of charge by the publisher.
About this book: Nurse managers: are you struggling with the complexity of your role?
As a nurse, you are already a manager. You must manage patient caseloads and care plans as well as supervise aides, technicians, and other care providers. But moving from this type of organic management to a defined nurse manager role is not a natural progression. Nurse managers must command a vast, diverse, and robust skill set, and those skills must first be …

Understanding Chinese Students’ College Choice To Increase Chinese Student Recruitment: A Focus On Music Majors, Tamara Yakaboski, Sonja Rizzolo, Lei Ouyang
Understanding Chinese Students’ College Choice To Increase Chinese Student Recruitment: A Focus On Music Majors, Tamara Yakaboski, Sonja Rizzolo, Lei Ouyang
Teacher-Scholar: The Journal of the State Comprehensive University
The focus of this study was to understand why 20 Chinese students selected a rural, regionally focused research university. The research sought to (1) offer new, nuanced understanding of how Chinese students selected a university not well-known to international students and (2) advance how an institution of this type could meet its goal of improving and increasing Chinese student recruitment. As a majority of the Chinese students who selected this institution were majoring in music, this study offers implications for niche marketing and recruitment. In addition to the knowledge produced, this study models academic and student affairs collaboration where the …
