Healthcare Facilities Management, Harold Lucas Jan 2017

Healthcare Facilities Management, Harold Lucas

Integrated Studies

Abstract

Healthcare is an ever changing industry and signs show that this will most likely be the case for many years to come. In order to have healthcare, companies must have facilities in which to provide said care. This paper will focus on those facilities and what it takes to keep them operating at an optimum state. Facilities management is a quite broad topic when looking at any industry but when it comes to the facilities required to provide patient care the spectrum is mind boggling.

Healthcare facilities must have people to maintain them. These people are required to be …

A Place For Organic Farming In The Big Market?, John Cox

Integrated Studies

Farming is as vital to human existence as the air we breathe, and in turn, farming can and does definitely affect the air we breathe. It keeps our planet going and is a worldwide necessity and without farming, the human race would rapidly cease to exist. There is, however, debate regarding if we can continue to exist with the current farming practices found in the majority of farms worldwide and particularly within the United States. Therefore, the need to adapt and/or to control the natural impacts on farming is an ongoing and vitally important endeavor. The primary focus of this …

Why Physical Education Should Be Mandatory In Schools(K-12), Jonathan Stark Jan 2017

Why Physical Education Should Be Mandatory In Schools(K-12), Jonathan Stark

Integrated Studies

Abstract

My paper is about physical activity being mandatory in schools. It is very important for students to start physical activity early in life. One reason for starting physical activity early is to get in a habit of working out to where it is a part of your lifestyle. Another reason is it helps you as a person to be healthy; mentally and physically. If you are healthy, you feel better about yourself. Physical activity is being less talked about more and more each day. It is one of the reasons why our country is number one for obesity rates.

Employment And Economic Wellbeing Of Single Female-Headed Households, Dwitiya Jawer Neethi Ms Jan 2017

Employment And Economic Wellbeing Of Single Female-Headed Households, Dwitiya Jawer Neethi Ms

Theses - Graduate Programs in Economic Theory and Policy

This study focuses on the the employment and economic wellbeing of single female-headed households in the United States in the years 2004, 2007, 2010 and 2013. This has been examined from two vantage points: a Heckman Selection Model shows that the reservation wage for the nonemployed single female heads is lower than the employed single female heads. This indicates a lack of suitable jobs for the nonemployed single female heads. The other mode of investigation involves an economic wellbeing analysis of single female heads using the Levy Institute Measure of Economic Wellbeing. The LIMEW analysis shows that while the gap …

The Perceptions Of Nsaid Use Among One Midwestern Diii Athletic Department, Robert E. Braun Dr., Kaylee Cialella, Shelley Payne Dr., William V. Harper, Joan Rocks Dr.

Health and Sport Sciences Faculty Scholarship

NSAIDs are commonly used among athletes for a variety of reasons. The purpose of this research is to gain insight on Division III athletes’view and opinions of NSAIDs. A survey was developed incorporating the Theory of Planned Behavior and distributed to all winter and spring athletic teams of one Midwestern Dill University. By utilizing the Theory of Planned Behavior, this study found attitude toward behavior as the strongest predictor of behavioral intention (p < .001), while both Perceived Behavioral control (p < .001) and Intention (p < .001) were statistically significant predictors of behavior. Another finding from the study was that athletes perceived less than 25% of their teammates as taking NSAIDs. Displaying the importance of an athlete s own personal values and opinions of NSAID use was the strongest predictor of intentions. Further assessment should include more athletes to get a better representation of the athletic department.

Nutrition Faculty Publications

Health behaviors associated with chronic disease, particularly healthy eating and regular physical activity, are important role modeling opportunities for individuals working in child care programs. Prior studies have not explored these risk factors in family child care home (FCCH) providers which care for vulnerable and at-risk populations. To address this gap, we describe the socio-demographic and health risk behavior profiles in a sample of providers (n = 166 FCCH) taken from baseline data of an ongoing cluster-randomized controlled intervention (2011–2016) in North Carolina. Data were collected during on-site visits where providers completed self-administered questionnaires (socio-demographics, physical activity, fruit and vegetable …

Perceived Weight Discrimination And 10-Year Risk Of Allostatic Load Among Us Adults, Maya Vadiveloo, Joisemer Mattei

Nutrition Faculty Publications

Background: Discrimination promotes multisystem physiological dysregulation termed allostatic load, which predicts morbidity and mortality. It remains unclear whether weight-related discrimination influences allostatic load.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to prospectively examine 10-year associations between weight discrimination, allostatic load, and its components among adults 25–75 years in the Midlife Development in the US Biomarker Substudy.

Methods: Participants with information on weight discrimination were analyzed (n=986). At both timepoints, participants self-reported the frequency of perceived weight discrimination across nine scenarios as “never/rarely” (scored as 0), “sometimes” (1), or “often” (2). The two scores were averaged …

Nutrition Faculty Publications

Worksite cafeterias are compelling venues to improve diet quality through environmental changes.

We conducted a pre-post study to evaluate how a cafeteria-initiated grill menu redesign influenced sales, revenue, and nutrient content of foods purchased. Secondly, we evaluated consumer opinions about menu changes to inform practices for worksite environment interventions. Monthly sales data (2012-2015) were used to compute gross sales and revenue of entrées and side dishes pre-post menu changes. Alternative protein sources replaced red meat; nutrient composition and nutrients purchased were compared using Food Pro software. Consumer responses were queried using online surveys; open-ended responses were analyzed using NVivo. Differences …
