Background/aim: The aim of this study was to quantify the changes in middle ear pressure (MEP) during robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP). Materials and methods: Thirty patients undergoing RARP were included in this study. MEP was obtained at the following time points: awake (T1), postintubation (T2), pneumoperitoneum + 1 h of Trendelenburg position (T3), pneumoperitoneum + 2 h of Trendelenburg position (T4), pneumoperitoneum + 3 h of Trendelenburg position (T5), desufflation + supine position (T6), and 1 h after extubation in the postanesthesia care unit (T7). Heart rate, mean arterial pressure (MAP), peak airway pressure (PAP), tidal volume, minute ventilation, EtCO2, …

Background/aim: The purpose of this study is to investigate the prognostic significance of lower uterine segment (LUS) involvement in endometrial cancer (EC). Materials and methods: We reviewed the patients who were operated at our institution between July 2007 and March 2015 with the diagnosis of EC. Tumors localized in the corpus and involving the LUS or localized entirely in the LUS formed Group A, while tumors in the uterine corpus without LUS involvement formed Group B. Clinicopathological characteristics and survival of the patients were compared in both groups. Results: A total of 500 patients were included in the study. There …

Background/aim: For the early stage of nonsmall-cell lung cancer, surgical resection provides the best survival, but the surgical risk generally increases with age because of the increased prevalence of comorbidities, especially cardiovascular disorders. The aim of this study was to compare survival and mortality rates of two groups with different ages, younger and older than 70 years, who went curative resection for nonsmall-cell lung cancer. Materials and methods: We analyzed the patients who underwent curative lung cancer surgery in the Department of Thoracic Surgery of Gaziantep University Research Hospital between January 1997 and November 2014. Patients were divided into 2 …

Background/aim: This study aimed to evaluate oxidative stress markers of liver tissue in a mouse α-amanitin poisoning model with three different toxin levels. Materials and methods: The mice were randomly divided into Group 1 (control), Group 2 (0.2 mg/kg), Group 3 (0.6 mg/kg), and Group 4 (1.0 mg/kg). The toxin was injected intraperitoneally and 48 h of follow-up was performed before sacrifice. Results: Median superoxide dismutase activities of liver tissue in Groups 3 and 4 were significantly higher than in Group 1 (for both, P = 0.001). The catalase activity in Group 2 was significantly higher, but in Groups 3 …
