A Correlational Study On Critical Thinking In Nursing As An Outcome Variable For Success, Rebecca Porter
A Correlational Study On Critical Thinking In Nursing As An Outcome Variable For Success, Rebecca Porter
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Critical thinking is a required curricular outcome for nursing education; however, the literature shows a gap related to valid and reliable tools to measure critical thinking specific to nursing and relating that critical thinking measurement to meaningful outcomes. This study examined critical thinking scores, as measured by Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI) Critical Thinking Exam (CTE), to determine if a statistically significant predictive association existed between critical thinking scores, successful Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) program completion, and National Certification Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN®) pass rates. The research was conducted in a semi-urban, hospital-based, ASN program and included …
Protecting Whistleblowing (And Not Just Whistleblowers), Evan J. Ballan
Protecting Whistleblowing (And Not Just Whistleblowers), Evan J. Ballan
Michigan Law Review
When the government contracts with private parties, the risk of fraud runs high. Fraud against the government hurts everyone: taxpayer money is wasted on inferior or nonexistent products and services, and the public bears the burdens attendant to those inadequate goods. To combat fraud, Congress has developed several statutory frameworks to encourage whistleblowers to come forward and report wrongdoing in exchange for a monetary reward. The federal False Claims Act allows whistleblowers to file an action in federal court on behalf of the United States, and to share in any recovery. Under the Dodd- Frank Act, the SEC Office of …

A Case Report On An Ectopic Accessory Parotid Fistula In An Adult: A Dilemma Of Acquired Or Congenital Origin With Delayed Manifestation, Produl Hazarika, Seema Elina Punnoose, Rajeev Chaturvedi, Suneet Kaur Hora
Manipal Journal of Medical Sciences
To our knowledge, this is the second known reported case of ectopic accessory parotid gland fistula in an adult in literature. Congenital parotid duct fistula itself is a rare entity, but even rarer is the occurrence of the fistula in an otherwise healthy adult. A sequential pictorial account has depicted the surgical excision of the fistula in its entirety and histopathology confirmed the parotid fistula. Two months post procedure, the patient continues to be symptom free. We used search engines such as PubMed, Medline, Google Scholar, and Wiley Online library to search published literature
The Importance Of Positive Affect: The Role Of Affective Personality In Predicting Organizational Citizenship Behavior, Neila Ramdhani, Djamaludin Ancok, Lillemor Adrianson
The Importance Of Positive Affect: The Role Of Affective Personality In Predicting Organizational Citizenship Behavior, Neila Ramdhani, Djamaludin Ancok, Lillemor Adrianson
Makara Human Behavior Studies in Asia
Previous research demonstrates inconsistent results in predicting how affect influences organizational citizenship behavior (OCB). This study aims to solve the inconsistency by taking the position that positive affect and negative affect are orthogonal, and their interaction produces four types of affective personality. They are ‘Self-fulfilling’ (high positive affect and low negative affect), ‘High affective’ (high positive affect and high negative affect), ‘Low affective’ (low positive affect and low negative affect) and ‘Self-destructive’ (low positive affect and high negative affect). The study hypothesizes that the self-fulfilling group displays the highest mean of OCB while the self-destructive displays the lowest. The high …
Too-Much-Of-A-Good-Thing Effect Of Prosocial Silence And Voice, Asad Shahjehan, Muhammad Yasir
Too-Much-Of-A-Good-Thing Effect Of Prosocial Silence And Voice, Asad Shahjehan, Muhammad Yasir
Makara Human Behavior Studies in Asia
This study assesses the effects of prosocial silence and voice on organizational citizenship behaviors directed towards individuals under the “Too-Much-of-a-Good-Thing” theory. It is assumed that greater prosocial silence and voice lead to organizational citizenship. However, the theory of too-much-of-a-good-thing suggests that extreme behaviors may perversely have a negative effect raising the possibility that the relationship is curvilinear rather than linear. A similar nonlinear relationship is suggested in this study. Standardized measures of prosocial voice, prosocial silence and organizational citizenship were collected from 381 faculty members from three mid-cycle universities. Regression analyses revealed a significant curvilinear (an inverted U-Shaped) relationship between …

Libya, The New York Times, And A Propaganda Model Of The Mass Media, Randy Laprairie
Libya, The New York Times, And A Propaganda Model Of The Mass Media, Randy Laprairie
Masters Theses
This project derives a set of research expectations from the propaganda model, a structural model of the corporate news media developed by Edward S. Herman and Noam Chomsky. The model predicts that the news media will reflect elite views and priorities and marginalize views outside the range of elite opinion. Consequently, it is expected that the media will tend to support the elite’s preferred modes of exercising state power in international affairs. This often entails demonizing official enemies of the United States in order to justify military interventions while downplaying the crimes of the United States and its allies. To …

An Assessment Of North Korean Threats And Vulnerabilities In Cyberspace, Jeremiah Van Rossum
An Assessment Of North Korean Threats And Vulnerabilities In Cyberspace, Jeremiah Van Rossum
Graduate Theses/Dissertations
This thesis answers the fundamental questions of what North Korean capabilities and intent in cyberspace are and what North Korean threats and vulnerabilities are associated with these. It argues that although North Korea’s cyberspace resources and capabilities have increased and reached a level that represents an advanced persistent threat, its cyberspace operations have remained restrained and regional. It also argues that North Korea’s valuable assets include its ability to control cyberspace within North Korea and its ability to engage in cyberspace activities and operations from abroad. The thesis recommends that the United States government exploit these assets by denying and …
Charting Constellations Of Power: Texas Public Education Policy, Hollie Wright
Charting Constellations Of Power: Texas Public Education Policy, Hollie Wright
Graduate Theses/Dissertations
For decades, public education in Texas has been entrenched in neoliberalism-inspired policies that research shows largely fail to produce promised results and have a tendency to perpetuate the very problems advocates claim the policies will solve. This raises questions about the decision-makers and what is happening in the public education policy process. In line with Laura Nader’s directive for more anthropologists to make those in power the subject of their research, I used both ethnographic and social network analysis methods to ‘study up’ in Texas public education. This study describes some relationships of members of the Texas State Board of …

Experimental Simulation Of A Cross-Flow Rice Dryer, Sangeeta Mukhopadhyay
Experimental Simulation Of A Cross-Flow Rice Dryer, Sangeeta Mukhopadhyay
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
After harvest, rough rice is dried, then dehulled and typically milled before consumption. A broad objective of the “rice drying process”, which comprises drying and tempering, is to maximize the yield of “whole, intact milled kernels”, quantified by the “head rice yield” (HRY). Since rough rice is commonly dried using cross-flow (CF) dryers in the United States of America, the aim of this research was to assess the effect of drying and tempering treatments on milling yields when rice was dried in an experimentally-simulated CF drying column. First, because airflow rate was found to be the least-studied “drying variable”, its …
Structural And Elastic Properties Of Degenerate Sno Monolayers At Finite Temperature, Afsana Sharmin
Structural And Elastic Properties Of Degenerate Sno Monolayers At Finite Temperature, Afsana Sharmin
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Chalcogen-based layered superconductors with a litharge structure such as FeS and FeSe mono-layers undergo structural and superconducting phase transitions that are tunable by doping. Representing another material platform with a litharge structure but without valence d-electrons, SnO monolayers also display a structural ground state with a degenerate rectangular unit cell at zero temperature and a charge-tunable energy barrier that leads to a thermally-controllable structural phase change. Doped SnO monolayers with rectangular degenerate unit cells give rise to two-dimensional multiferroicity. Their two-dimensional elastic energy landscape adopts a basic analytic expression that is employed to discuss this structural transition. The results contained …
