Relating Christian Faith To Physics For Scientists And Engineers, Dominic Halsmer, Calvin Roso, P. Wesley Odom
Relating Christian Faith To Physics For Scientists And Engineers, Dominic Halsmer, Calvin Roso, P. Wesley Odom
Journal of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning for Christians in Higher Education
As part of an initiative by the new Center for Faith and Learning at Oral Roberts University, an introductory college-level physics course for scientists and engineers was reconfigured to facilitate the integration of physics and Christian faith. Regular readings from a popular book, Einstein and Religion (Jammer, 1999), on the compatibility between physics and Christian doctrine were assigned. Questions based on the readings were then posed and a small fraction of class time (10%) was reserved for discussion of these issues. The students also submitted book reports summarizing their perspectives at the end of the course. A detailed rubric was …

Contextualizing The Contextual: A Note On The Revolutionary Exegesis Of Gregorio L. Aglipay, Peter-Ben; Vrije Smit
Contextualizing The Contextual: A Note On The Revolutionary Exegesis Of Gregorio L. Aglipay, Peter-Ben; Vrije Smit
Philippine Studies: Historical and Ethnographic Viewpoints
The contextuality of all biblical exegesis is often emphasized—and rightly so. However, the history of contextual exegesis still needs to be written, which leads to a situation in which those involved in “contextual exegesis” are often insufficiently aware of the contextuality of earlier approaches and the fact that they are heirs to a long tradition of contextual biblical interpretation. Using the example of the “revolutionary” exegesis of Gregorio L. Aglipay, this research note illustrates how contextual exegesis may have much earlier roots than is frequently assumed. Keywords: Gregorio Aglipay • Iglesia Filipina Independiente • Contextual Theology • Biblica l interpretation • …

What Made Nehemiah An Effective Leader?, Cheryl Patton
Journal of Applied Christian Leadership
Nehemiah, whose role changed from that of royal cupbearer to governor of Judah, utilized multiple leadership strategies in accomplishing his goal of rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. his work was accomplished through an active prayer life, providing a vision to his followers, using his closeness to King Artaxerxes to receive help, role modeling, adaptability, and foresight. furthermore, Nehemiah paid close attention to his followers’ needs, and was tenacious in accomplishing his goals. this document describes Nehemiah’s utilization of these primarily transformational leadership strategies. It also offers contemporary christian leaders an effective leadership role model.

The Critical Role Of Mentoring For Pastoral Formation, Kenley Hall
The Critical Role Of Mentoring For Pastoral Formation, Kenley Hall
Journal of Applied Christian Leadership
Denominational leaders view the M.Div. as the gold standard in preparing young men and women for ministry. however, academic training alone does not prepare someone for ministry. It must be paired with mentoring, defined as the intentional relationship between an experienced pastoral mentor and a young pastoral mentee for the purpose of pastoral formation. this paper explores the mentoring relationships between Barnabas and Paul, and Paul and timothy as instructive examples of the importance, process and impact of mentoring for pastoral formation. It concludes that Barnabas and Paul played a crucial role in the pastoral formation of their mentees.
Biblical Foundations Of Christian Leadership, Part 2, Stanley E. Patterson Phd
Biblical Foundations Of Christian Leadership, Part 2, Stanley E. Patterson Phd
Journal of Applied Christian Leadership
"christian leadership assumes a relational process in pursuit of a common purpose. It is a process which, while expecting obedience to Jesus’ commands (John 15:10), is devoid of coercive structures that require accomplishment. Rather, the community of leader and followers is driven intrinsically by values that support both mission and process. Obedience in the absence of coercion assumes an intrinsic motivation—love. Jesus speaks of love for one another as essential to christian identity within the larger community (John 13:35). he strengthens the argument for love as a foundational value related to mission accomplishment by identifying his love for them as …
Humanity's Capacity To Apprehend Aesthetic Value As An Argument For God's Existence, Walter Davis
Humanity's Capacity To Apprehend Aesthetic Value As An Argument For God's Existence, Walter Davis
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
This work presents a theistic argument for the existence of God based on man’s ability to apprehend, aesthetic value. The argument is called the Aesthetic Theistic Argument. Man’s ability to appreciate aesthetic value is unique among biological life forms and is common to every human culture. Explaining the origins of this ability implies a creator/designer who also apprehends aesthetic value. The study both affirms the argument for theism and critiques the philosophical and scientific foundations of Darwinian naturalism. The result of this study affirms the cause for man’s capacity to apprehend aesthetic value is best explained by the existence of …
Understanding The Abrahamic Covenant Through The Book Of Mormon, Noel B. Reynolds
Understanding The Abrahamic Covenant Through The Book Of Mormon, Noel B. Reynolds
Faculty Publications
Interpretation of God's covenant to Abrahamic and its promised fulfillment varies across scholarly and religious writings. The Book of Mormon emphasizes this covenant and the promise that through Abraham all the kindreds of the earth will be blessed. It also features a unique interpretation--that the covenant will be fulfilled as the Book of Mormon itself, a record of the seed of Joseph, is given first to the Gentiles, and then to house of Israel.

Pauline Pneumatology: Where Is The Spirit In Colossians?, Matthew L. Tinkham Jr.
Pauline Pneumatology: Where Is The Spirit In Colossians?, Matthew L. Tinkham Jr.
Seminary Scholarship Symposium
Many scholars have noted a significant difference between the theology of the undisputed Pauline writings and that of Colossians, namely the abundance of pneumatology in the former and its apparent absence in the latter. If Colossians is a Pauline epistle, where is the Spirit? This study seeks to answer this question by conducting an exegetical and intertextual analysis of pneumatological language and concepts in the undisputed Pauline writings and Colossians. This analysis leads the study to conclude that, while pneumatology features less prominently in Colossians than in the undisputed Pauline writings, it still is present in four explicit and seven …
The Nature Of “Cut Off” In The Book Of Leviticus: An Exegetical And Intertextual Study, Jose Briones
The Nature Of “Cut Off” In The Book Of Leviticus: An Exegetical And Intertextual Study, Jose Briones
Seminary Scholarship Symposium
The purpose of this paper is twofold. First, it seeks to find the most general meaning of the word כרָּתַ (“cut off”) in the book of Leviticus by syntactical and exegetical analysis of Torah examples. Second, it will apply that meaning to inter-textual references with an emphasis on Daniel 9:26 concerning the Messiah. The article will conclude with an alternate views analysis and weigh which one is most consistent with the Messiah’s cutting off. The research concludes by showing the importance of כרָּתַ in the Old and New Testaments especially in correlation with Christ’s cutting off ( כרָּתַ ). The …
History, Egyptology, And The Bible: An Interdisciplinary Case Study From A Biblical Foundation, Michael G. Hasel, Ph.D.
History, Egyptology, And The Bible: An Interdisciplinary Case Study From A Biblical Foundation, Michael G. Hasel, Ph.D.
The Journal of Biblical Foundations of Faith and Learning
This is a case study that follows the principles developed in the first conference paper presented in the Biblical Foundations for Faith and Learning Conference (Cancun, 2011) and specifically applies these principles to a problem in the narrow field of History, Egyptology, and the Bible. Due to political and ideological reasons the field of Egyptology has been largely isolated from biblical studies and the history of Canaan and Israel. In recent years, minimalist biblical scholars have challenged the long-held consensus that the peoples, places, and polities of Canaan and Israel existed in the second millennium. The biblical references to these …
Biblical Archaeology Or Near Eastern Archaeology? Redefining The Discipline From A Biblical Foundation, Michael G. Hasel, Ph.D.
Biblical Archaeology Or Near Eastern Archaeology? Redefining The Discipline From A Biblical Foundation, Michael G. Hasel, Ph.D.
The Journal of Biblical Foundations of Faith and Learning
The original impetus in the early 1800s behind the worldwide discipline of archaeology was the exploration of Bible lands in the ancient Near East. Early discoveries began to fill museums in Europe and excite Christian believers. Governments began a vigorous competition and funded major excavations in order to elucidate the Bible, while scholarly societies were founded to carry out this work. But with time, the influence of secular thinking and the philosophical presuppositions of the Enlightenment began having their effect. From the 1940s through the 1970s there was a revival in Protestant America in the discipline of “Biblical Archaeology” led …
