The Impact Of First-Line Nurse Managers Leadership Development Training Program On Workgroup Climate And Performance, Reem Mabrouk Abd El Rahman
The Impact Of First-Line Nurse Managers Leadership Development Training Program On Workgroup Climate And Performance, Reem Mabrouk Abd El Rahman
Dissertations
The uncertainty in the health care industry, particularly in nursing, makes the next millennium an important time for nurses to develop leadership skills. One of the greatest challenges faced in the nursing profession is developing future nurse leaders. A better understanding of what transformational leadership is, can improve our ability to provide effective leadership training programs and interventions. To respond to changing technological and social forces, new managerial responsibilities are placed on the nursing services requiring nurse administrators who are knowledgeable, skilled and competent in all aspects of leadership. To confront these expanding responsibilities and demands, the leader's role must …

Unearthing Childhood: The Archeology Of Children In North America, Christine S A Vigeant
Unearthing Childhood: The Archeology Of Children In North America, Christine S A Vigeant
Anthós
The Archaeology of Childhood is a relatively recent focus of archaeological inquiry. An interest in prehistoric childhood comes on the heels of and as a necessary extension of feminist archaeology (Baxter 2008). Archaeological research in the past has largely ignored prehistoric children, or considered them only in the context of site formation processes or child burials (Schwartzman 2006). This neglect of prehistoric children was due to a belief that children were invisible in the archaeological record, because of their unpredictable behavior and their inactivity in the world of adults. They were thought to be passive participants rather than active influencers …
Privatizing The Second Gender: The Origins Of Private Property And Its Relation To Female Sexual Enslavement In The Capitalist Economy, Van Thao Tran
Privatizing The Second Gender: The Origins Of Private Property And Its Relation To Female Sexual Enslavement In The Capitalist Economy, Van Thao Tran
Anthós
With this inquiry, I seek to establish that the privatization of women as property not only originates from but also propagates the creation of private property as is theorized by Thorstein Veblen – and, through both Veblen’s and Friedrich Engel’s research, we can entail that the erosion of women’s agency and ownership is enforced during the early sedentary stages of human development. Throughout the course of history, women’s barbaric status as war loot has evolved into a more insidious institution of naturalized slavery and sexual encumbrance through the adoption of John Locke’s natural rights philosophy into the businessman’s practice, the …

Ecological Niche Modeling Of The Genus Papio, Amanda J. Fuchs
Ecological Niche Modeling Of The Genus Papio, Amanda J. Fuchs
Theses and Dissertations
Ecological niche modeling investigates how climatic variables have influenced taxonomic diversity in Papio. Models performed well suggesting climatic variables influence the distribution of baboon species. Niche overlap among all possible pairs of taxa determined that species exhibited significantly different niches. The results of these models support a parapatric speciation scenario.

Comparing Social Science And Computer Science Workflow Processes For Studying Group Interactions, Joseph A. Allen, Colin Fisher, Mohamed Chetouani, Ming Ming Chiu, Hatice Gunes, Marc Mehu, Hayley Hung
Psychology Faculty Publications
In this article, a team of authors from the Geeks and Groupies workshop, in Leiden, the Netherlands, compare prototypical approaches to studying group interaction in social science and computer science disciplines, which we call workflows. To help social and computer science scholars understand and manage these differences, we organize workflow into three major stages: research design, data collection, and analysis. For each stage, we offer a brief overview on how scholars from each discipline work. We then compare those approaches and identify potential synergies and challenges. We conclude our article by discussing potential directions for more integrated and mutually beneficial …

Public Sociology, Laura Nichols
Public Sociology, Laura Nichols
Sociology
Public sociology refers to the application and uses of sociology beyond the academy. The term has been used very broadly to describe any sociological theory, methods, research findings, or commentary by sociologists that are consumed (and, ideally, used) by non-sociologists. Its central aim is "to correct - that is, to make better, social conditions for the betterment of humanity" (Hanemaayer and Schneider 2014: 5). Public sociology has also been referred to more specifically as an approach sociologists use to participate in public discussions about social issues as "public intellectuals" (Burawoy 2005).
This chapter focuses on public sociology in its broadest …

Pentecost Journal of Theology and Mission
We are pleased to share with you the second edition of the Pentecost Journal of Theology and Mission (PJTM). We are indeed delighted and encouraged by the enthusiastic uptake of our frst issue, July 2016, on Pentecostalism, Migration and World Christianity. An aim of the PJTM is to provide a space for critical reflection on contemporary issues of theology and mission from Pentecostal perspectives that will have practical and transformative impact on the life of the individual, the church and society. The Editors have discovered that such a “space” does not exist without its creation, and the work of creation …
Knowledge And Practices Of Faculty At Nasm Accredited Institutions In The Southeast Region Regarding Standards-Based Instruction, Jonathan Leon Nelson
Knowledge And Practices Of Faculty At Nasm Accredited Institutions In The Southeast Region Regarding Standards-Based Instruction, Jonathan Leon Nelson
Dissertations
In 1993, Congress passed the mandate Goals 2000: Educate America Act, which established standards for K-12 education that outlined the core benchmarks of student achievement for individuals who have mastered the core curricula required to earn a high school diploma (Mark, 1995). Unfortunately, these curricular requirements did not include any criteria for music education, nor did they consider the curricular implications for higher education in providing NSME Standards based training for music educators.
The aim of this study was to determine if and to what extent music education faculty engage in NSME Standards-based instruction within the higher education classroom. Questionnaires …
Wikipedia As A Pedagogical Tool: Complicating Writing In The Technical Writing Classroom, Andrew David Virtue
Wikipedia As A Pedagogical Tool: Complicating Writing In The Technical Writing Classroom, Andrew David Virtue
WikiStudies
This paper describes a series of pedagogical activities that instructors can use with Wikipedia. While there is research that details student contributions to Wikipedia, these activities use features on Wikipedia to teach about ethos, audience, edits/revisions, and style guides as they relate to technical writing. These activities were originally developed for a Technical Writing course but can easily be modified to fit a range of courses and disciplines. A key pedagogical strength of Wikipedia is that it allows instructors and students to work with the Wikipedia community, which can be used to complicate how technical writing students understand and use …
The New Mechanical Philosophy, Stuart Glennan
The New Mechanical Philosophy, Stuart Glennan
Philosophy, Religion, and Classics
The New Mechanical Philosophy argues for a new image of nature and of science--one that understands both natural and social phenomena to be the product of mechanisms, and that casts the work of science as an effort to discover and understand those mechanisms. Drawing on an expanding literature on mechanisms in physical, life, and social sciences, Stuart Glennan offers an account of the nature of mechanisms and of the models used to represent them. A key quality of mechanisms is that they are particulars - located at different places and times, with no one just like another. The crux of …

People -- Marine Mammal Interactions, Andrew Butterworth, Mark P. Simmonds
People -- Marine Mammal Interactions, Andrew Butterworth, Mark P. Simmonds
Our relationships with marine mammals are complex. We have used them as resources, and in some places this remains the case; viewed them as competitors and culled them (again ongoing in some localities); been so captivated and intrigued by them that we have taken them into captivity for our entertainment; and developed a lucrative eco-tourism activity focused on them in many nations. When we first envisaged this special topic, we had two overarching aims:
Firstly, we hoped to generate critical evaluation of some of our relationships with these animals.
Secondly, we hoped to attract knowledgeable commentators and experts who might …
