Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

The research used a transformative learning theory lens (Mezirow, 1991), and also an Interpretivist framework (Merriam, 1998) to understand the data. This study also sought to find what motivates career professionals to reach and …

The Growth Mindset School Community describes an organization committed to growth and reflective processes intended to monitor thinking and procedures impacting learning and growth. Creativity And Innovation Through The Job Demands-Resources Model, Nathan Haugejorde Bjornberg

Psychology Theses & Dissertations

Organizational innovation is key to organizations’ financial performance and long-term success (Anderson, Potočnik, & Zhou, 2014; Bowen, Rostami, & Steel, 2010). Employees drive organizational innovation through their creativity and innovation, making the understanding of how to influence these behaviors especially important. Previous research has stressed the importance of the work environment and individual differences in supporting creativity and innovation (Byron & Khazanchi, 2011; Hammond, Neff, Farr, Schwall, & Zhao, 2011; Hülsheger, Anderson, & Salgado, 2009; Hunter, Bedell, & Mumford, 2007), but results have been unclear about how this occurs (Hennessey & Amabile, 2010). Literacy Coaching: A Research Based Coaching Guide, Mary E. House

School of Education and Leadership Student Capstone Projects

The question that guided the work of the researcher was: What impact would a research based coaching guide have on a coach’s effectiveness with teachers, understanding that the end goal of coaching is increased student achievement? Research suggested that professional learning via coaching is key to building capacity in teachers. However, the researcher found that the role of the literacy coach in many schools is one with little or no initial training or a core resource from which to anchor a coach’s work with teachers. Research clearly suggested that the instructional coach role lacks effectiveness if the coach does not …

Can Changing The Value System And Re-Aligning The Financial Structure Of The Institution Prevent Clinician Burnout?, Darrell G. Kirch Md

Symposium Presentations

Growing clinician burnout in the U.S. is nearing public health crisis levels. Each year, 400 physicians commit suicide, a rate more than twice that of the general population. Nearly one-third of nurses are emotionally exhausted. The traditional culture of health care - characterized by hierarchy, autonomy, competition, and individualism - has created an environment that makes it difficult for physicians to ask for help or seek care when they need it. The effects of this problem extend beyond the individual health care worker - burnout has been shown to lead to impaired professionalism, high staff turnover, a decrease in patient …

Leveraging Positive Psychological Capital (Psycap) In Crisis: A Multiphase Framework, Ivana Milosevic, A. Erin Bass, Djordje Milosevic

Marketing and Management Faculty Publications

Despite recent advancements in understanding of leadership in context, there is surprisingly little insight into leadership in crisis – a context that is both pervasive and particularly challenging. To provide insight into how leaders navigate crisis, we utilize historical sources of Sir Winston Churchill’s leadership during World War II (WWII) to analyze 1) which resources may leaders use in crisis and 2) how they leverage these resources to lead through and out of the crisis. We discover that positive psychological capital (PsyCap) is a core strategic resource that leaders leverage in crisis. Our findings suggest that leaders leverage PsyCap as …

“I Will Change The World”: The Intersection Of Social Change And Male College Athletes’ Leadership Perspectives, Rhema D. Fuller, C. Keith Harrison, S. Malia Lawrence, Jeff Eyanson, Danielle Mccardle

International Journal of Exercise Science

International Journal of Exercise Science 10(6): 845-856, 2017. Historically, men have been characterized as task-oriented leaders who are motivated by desires for autonomy, wealth, and power (17, 33). However, these “masculine” views of leadership might not accurately capture the leadership motivations of Millennial males as the views were developed in previous generations (4). Given the commitment of many Millennials towards socially responsible attitudes and behaviors (18, 25), we utilized a qualitative research design to examine the influence of social change on the leadership motivations of Millennial male intercollegiate athletes. In doing so, we found participants were motivated to lead in …

But i was unprepared for a gesture of friendship …
