Dance As An Interdisciplinary Tool In Drama Class: Learning Acting Skills Through Dance Movement Experiences, Amandie Jolene Campbell

Doctoral Scholarly Projects & Capstones

Actors must be able to engage with their audience through their stage presence and showmanship on stage. It is important that actors are able to fully embrace the physical character they are portraying, not just the mental and verbal entities of the character. The goal of this thesis argues and defends the use of dance in a drama classroom to effectively develop movement efficiency in a character’s physical development. Those who experience educational dance, personally or through observation of other students, see that dance enhances a lifestyle positively and creates students of courageous and respectful value to society. Students also …

The Link Between Greek Involvement And Alcohol Consumption: A Utilization Of The Theory Of Planned Behavior To Examine Fundamental Influences, Alex Knoll Dec 2016

The Link Between Greek Involvement And Alcohol Consumption: A Utilization Of The Theory Of Planned Behavior To Examine Fundamental Influences, Alex Knoll

USC Aiken Psychology Theses

Elevated levels of alcohol consumption among college students associated with Greek life are a well-documented occurrence in the United States (Baer, 1994; Capone et al., 2007). Many studies have sought to understand the precise influence(s) responsible for facilitating such inflated amounts of alcohol consumption behaviors. This study utilized the theory of planned behavior in an attempt to ascertain the most salient influences that may be contributing to Greek and non-Greek collegiate alcohol consumption. Specifically, one’s attitudes, perception of acceptable norms, and their perceived level of control over their behaviors were examined in relation to alcohol consumption.

An undergraduate collegiate sample …

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

Encephalitozoon cuniculi (E. cuniculi) is an intracellular zoonotic parasite that is recognized as a common parasite of rabbits. Infected rabbits show neurological and renal disorder. The polar tube protein 1 of the spore is revealed to be antigenicity. The present study aimed to produce a recombinant polar tube protein 1 (rPTP1) for which the codon usage of a native ptp1 gene was optimized and synthesized for protein production in Escherichia coli (E. coli). Both a native ptp1 gene amplified by PCR technique and an optimized ptp1 gene were ligated into a pQE30 expression vector and transformed into an E. coli …

Examination Of Pseudomonas Fluorescence As A Recombinant Expression Host: Cloning, Expression, And Chromatography, Ahmed K.Ali Elmasheiti

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

In an effort to expand the pool of bacterium useful for biotechnology applications, Pseudomonas fluorescens, a common gram negative microbe, was examined for its ability to function in a recombinant setting. P. fluorescens is ubiquitous in nature and was initially identified as a soil bacterium found in dirt and is typically associated with plant material. Past literature indicates that it shared characteristics common to Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis, including simple growth conditions and potential cloning vectors, providing motivation to look into both the upstream and downstream characteristics of this bacterium. First, it was demonstrated that P. fluorescens could be …

The Effects Of High Concentrations Of Ionic Liquid On Gb1 Protein Structure And Dynamics Probed By High-Resolution Magic-Angle-Spinning Nmr Spectroscopy, Lisa Warner, Erica Gjersing, Shelby E. Follett, K. Wade Elliott, Sergei V. Dzyuba, Krisztina Varga

Biomedical Research Institute Publications and Presentations

Ionic liquids have great potential in biological applications and biocatalysis, as some ionic liquids can stabilize proteins and enhance enzyme activity, while others have the opposite effect. However, on the molecular level, probing ionic liquid interactions with proteins, especially in solutions containing high concentrations of ionic liquids, has been challenging. In the present work the 13C, 15N-enriched GB1 model protein was used to demonstrate applicability of high-resolution magic-angle-spinning (HR-MAS) NMR spectroscopy to investigate ionic liquid–protein interactions. Effect of an ionic liquid (1-butyl-3- methylimidazolium bromide, [C4-mim]Br) on GB1was studied over a wide range of the ionic liquid …

Far From The Madding Crowd: A Statutory Solution To Crowd Crush, Tracy Hresko Pearl Dec 2016

Far From The Madding Crowd: A Statutory Solution To Crowd Crush, Tracy Hresko Pearl

UC Law Journal

Crowd-related injuries and deaths occur with surprising frequency in the United States. In recent years, crowd members in the United States have sustained significant injuries and even fatalities at concerts, sporting events, “doorbuster” sales, nightclubs, and large festivals. While some of these incidents have prompted victims to file negligence suits against event organizers and venue owners, common law has proven to be ineffective at addressing “crowd crush.” Indeed, courts have repeatedly held for defendants in these cases, making a series of scientific and legal errors in their analysis and providing little incentive for organizers and owners to improve their crowd …

Distribution, Abundance, And Migration Timing Of Greater And Lesser Sandhill Cranes Wintering In The Sacramento–San Joaquin River Delta Region Of California, Gary L. Ivey, Bruce D. Dugger, Caroline P. Herziger, Michael L. Casazza, Joseph P. Fleskes

Proceedings of the North American Crane Workshop

The Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta region of California (hereafter, Delta region) is an important wintering region for the Central Valley Population of greater sandhill cranes (Grus canadensis tabida) and lesser sandhill cranes (G. c. canadensis), but basic information about the ecology of these birds is lacking to design a biologically sound conservation strategy. During the winters of 2007-08 and 2008-09, we conducted roost counts, roadside surveys, aerial surveys, and tracked radio-marked birds to define the geographic area used by sandhill cranes in the Delta region, document migration chronology, and estimate subspecies-specific abundance. Radio-marked sandhill cranes arrived in our study area …

An Experimental Examination Of Visual Grouping Techniques In Skip Patterns On Respondent Navigation Errors, Rebecca J. Powell Dec 2016

An Experimental Examination Of Visual Grouping Techniques In Skip Patterns On Respondent Navigation Errors, Rebecca J. Powell

Survey Research and Methodology Program: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research

Researchers are able to obtain better coverage and response rates with mail surveys compared to landline telephone surveys due to (1) easier access to the United States Postal Service (USPS) Computerized Delivery Sequence File (CDSF) (Iannacchione, 2011), and (2) the rise of households with no landline telephone (Blumberg and Luke, 2016). However, the use of the mail mode raises important challenges, such as the need to help respondents navigate the questionnaire without interviewer assistance.

As not all questions asked are relevant to all respondents, skip patterns are introduced to navigate respondents around questions that do not apply to them. With …

Optimal Portfolio Management In Alaska: A Case Study On Risk Characteristics Of Environmental Consulting Companies, Katura Willingham Dec 2016

Optimal Portfolio Management In Alaska: A Case Study On Risk Characteristics Of Environmental Consulting Companies, Katura Willingham

Student Projects for Graduate Degrees

Sharp declines in global oil prices have led to a marked contraction in Alaska’s natural resource dependent economy. This, coupled with record the State’s budgetary shortfalls and a decrease in incoming federal dollars, has created a climate where environmental consulting companies must accept riskier projects to balance portfolio growth and security. As a result, companies must adopt a risk-based portfolio management approach as both a high level strategy and a core management practice. It is important to specifically identify projects best suited for an organization’s tolerance for risk based off of the supply and demand of the industry in rapidly …

Project Management Methodology Applied To A Research And Recommendations Study: Understanding Workplace Accidents Involving Equipment "Blind Spots", Blake Delaney

Student Projects for Graduate Degrees

Nearly 25 percent of work vehicle-related deaths take place while the vehicle is moving in reverse. The total cost to employers in 2000 was $60 billion, with two-thirds of the accidents taking place on-the-job. Due to the high number of vehicle blind spot accidents that take place each year, it is critical to ensure current technology is being utilized to prevent future accidents. (“Guidelines for employers to reduce motor vehicle crashes,” 2006) While the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) investigates industrial fatalities, too little information is gathered into general categories to effectively understand the overall effectiveness of U.S. regulations, …
