Military Medicine Interest Groups In U.S. Medical Schools, Timothy M. Guenther,, Maj Timothy J. Coker, Steve I. Chen, Mark A. Carlson
United States Department of Veterans Affairs: Publications
Medical student interest groups are organizations that help expose students to different medical specialties and fields of medicine while in medical school. Military medicine interest groups (MMIGs) are a particular type of interest group that spreads information about military medicine, fosters mentorship, and camaraderie between students and military faculty, and increases the opportunities for leadership while in medical school. Surveys were sent to all U.S. medical schools to determine how many schools had an MMIG. If a medical school had a group, a second survey was sent to the student leader to determine more information about how their group operated …

Heat And Mass Transfer In Mhd Micropolar Fluid In The Presence Of Diffusion Thermo And Chemical Reaction, R. V. M.S.S Kirankumar1, V. C. C.Raju, P. D. Prasad, S. V. Varma
Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)
This work is devoted to investigating the influence of diffusion thermo effect on hydromagnetic heat and mass transfer oscillatory flow of a micropolar fluid over an infinite moving vertical permeable plate in a saturated porous medium in the presence of transverse magnetic field and chemical reaction. The dimensionless equations are solved analytically using perturbation technique. The effects of the various fluid flow parameters entering into the problem on the velocity, microrotation, temperature and concentration fields within the boundary layer are discussed with the help of graphs. Also the local skin-friction coefficient, the wall couple stress coefficient, and the rates of …

Heat Source Thermoelastic Problem In A Hollow Elliptic Cylinder Under Time-Reversal Principle, Pravin Bhad, Vinod Varghese, Lalsingh Khalsa
Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)
The article investigates the time-reversal thermoelasticity of a hollow elliptical cylinder for determining the temperature distribution and its associated thermal stresses at a certain point using integral transform techniques by unifying classical orthogonal polynomials as the kernel. Furthermore, by considering a circle as a special kind of ellipse, it is seen that the temperature distribution and the comparative study of a circular cylinder can be derived as a special case from the present mathematical solution. The numerical results obtained are accurate enough for practical purposes.

Implementation Of The Matrix Differential Transform Method For Obtaining An Approximate Solution Of Some Nonlinear Matrix Evolution Equations, M. M. Khader, A. Borhanifar
Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)
This article introduces the matrix differential transform method (MDTM) to apply to matrix partial differential equations (MPDEs) and employs it for solving matrix Fisher equations, matrix Burgers equations and matrix KdV equations. We show how the MDTM applies to the linear part and nonlinear part of any MPDE and give various examples of MPDEs to illustrate the efficiency of the method. The results obtained are in excellent agreement with the exact solution and show that the proposed method is powerful, accurate, and easy.

Socio-Demographics And Exclusive Breastfeeding In The Medicaid/Women Infant And Children (Wic) Population In Spartanburg County, April D. Miller
Socio-Demographics And Exclusive Breastfeeding In The Medicaid/Women Infant And Children (Wic) Population In Spartanburg County, April D. Miller
Nursing Theses and Capstone Projects
Breast milk is recognized as the optimal source of nutrition for infants because of its unique nutritional and immunological characteristics. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of an infant’s life. "Exclusive breastfeeding (EBF)" is defined as no other food or drink except breast milk for the first six months of life. Despite its countless benefits to children and mothers, the continuation rates of exclusive breastfeeding are low in the United States, especially in the Medicaid/Women Infant and Children population. It is vital to understand how multiple factors affect breastfeeding practices in order to …

The Impact Of Short Papers On Clinical Decision Making Skills Of Nursing Students, Tara R. Hayes
Nursing Theses and Capstone Projects
Clinical decision making and critical thinking are fundamental skills to ensuring the success of undergraduate nursing students. Nursing faculty, and specifically clinical nursing faculty, are responsible for encouraging the development of these types of skills as students work in direct patient care. Traditional methods of clinical evaluation include lengthy case studies, concept mapping, and discussion board participation. While these methods have been in effect for some time, clinical short paper assignments are a fresh, innovative way to challenge students as they refine their critical thinking and clinical decision making abilities. No statistically significant difference was found between the perceived level …

The Effects Of A Brief Mindfulness-Based Meditation Intervention On Chronic Pain, Jolena B. Allred
The Effects Of A Brief Mindfulness-Based Meditation Intervention On Chronic Pain, Jolena B. Allred
Nursing Theses and Capstone Projects
As the number of individuals suffering with chronic pain escalates, management is shifting from pain specialists to primary care providers. Nurse practitioners are becoming increasingly responsible for the management of this complex patient population. Analgesics, primarily opioids, have been the standard of chronic pain management with a resulting national crisis related to overuse, improper use, and illegal use of these substances. Mindfulness-based meditation has gained increasing interest and acceptance by both the individuals suffering with chronic pain and the providers managing those who suffer, however, limited investigation is available related to brief interventions provided at point-of-care. This Capstone Project evaluated …

Compassion Fatigue: Exploring The Impact On Emergency Department Nurses, Lauren E. Pittman
Compassion Fatigue: Exploring The Impact On Emergency Department Nurses, Lauren E. Pittman
Nursing Theses and Capstone Projects
The purpose of this thesis project was to explore levels of compassion fatigue in emergency department nurses. Compassion fatigue has directly affected many nurses’ lives as well as impacting the field of nursing in various ways. Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring served as the theoretical framework for the study. The literature maintains that the prevalence of compassion fatigue has been established, yet severity varies among institutions and specialties. A quantitative study to determine the level of compassion fatigue in ED nurses was conducted by utilizing a group on the social media site Facebook that is specific to travel nurses …
The Temple Character Of Early Christianity, Matthew Higdon
The Temple Character Of Early Christianity, Matthew Higdon
Graduate Theses
I will argue that early Christianity more or less comprehensively envisioned itself, across varying traditions, to be a human-temple community, or a series of such communities; and that this word picture, this symbol, to a certain extent ordered their social life and aspirations. I propose three interlocking aspects to this priestly sociology. First, there is the element of unity. From the beginning, the temple model promoted unity, and it became particularly important later among very disparate groups of people within the church Second, the cultic motif generated a fresh kind of priestly ethics appropriate to the self-understanding of the movement. …

Functional Trait Values, Not Trait Plasticity, Drive The Invasiveness Of Rosa Sp. In Response To Light Availability, Rebecca E. Drenovsky, Jennifer E. Murphy
Biology
PREMISE OF THE STUDY : Functional trait plasticity in resource capture traits has been suggested as an underlying mechanism promoting invasive species establishment and spread. Earlier studies on this mechanism treat invasiveness as a discrete characteristic (i.e., invasive vs. noninvasive) and do not consider the potential impacts of evolutionary history. In the present study, we used a continuous measure of invasiveness and a phylogenetic framework to quantify the relationship between functional trait expression, plasticity, and invasiveness in Rosa .

How New York Investors Financed The Looting Of Syria, Ukraine, And Iraq: The Need To Increase Civil Liabilities For "Current Possessors" Of Stolen Antiquities In The 21st Century, Lukas Padegimas
Global Business Law Review
This note argues that the U.S. should pass its own self-policing legislation that will make it less enticing for thieves to try to sell stolen antiquities to the U.S. market. Our world heritage is under threat from undeterred looting, which results in antiquities vanishing from museum storerooms and archeological sites before ending up in the storerooms of investors. Currently, source nations that attempt to have stolen antiquities returned are deterred by the high legal costs involved. As the biggest market for stolen cultural property, states within the U.S. should amend current replevin laws so that the possessors of stolen cultural …

Mitigating Cyber Risk In It Supply Chains, Maureen Wallace
Global Business Law Review
This note argues that the United States needs to utilize current federal agencies to begin introducing cyber supply chain risk management regulation for IT supply chains. Cyber supply chain risk management is a critical area of cybersecurity that has barely been recognized by the United States government. The globalization of the digital world has introduced a new spectrum of risk management issues that affect the products exchanged by businesses and consumed by individuals and government agencies. While there have been some initiatives toward the promotion of tighter cybersecurity regulation, most initiatives only concern the public sector, leaving the private sector …
Turning Points: The Lived Experience Of Addiction Recovery, Kori Bloom
Turning Points: The Lived Experience Of Addiction Recovery, Kori Bloom
Sustainability and Social Justice
In addiction research, while academics are designing treatment, due to stigma surrounding substance abuse, the voices of those experiencing addiction are simultaneously being silenced. This paper sought to give these voices a platform from which they could be heard and educate others about addiction recovery. Photovoice, which is a participatory research method, was used as vehicle to discuss this topic. Through this project, four main themes emerged. Activities, relationships, reflection and motivation, and environment are a significant part of recovery. Participants openly appreciated that their stories were important and that someone wanted to learn from them. Further research should be …
