Machine crush injury is the most common occupational injury in Taiwan. Machines operated at high pressures and temperatures can cause severe injury to the hands. To improve functional recovery of the hands, pedicled groin flap transfer is recommended. This reconstructive option is useful and versatile for covering hand wounds. The transfer yields predictable results with a procedure that is substantially less difficult and takes less time compared with free-tissue transfer; the disadvantage is that the extremity must be immobilized. Pedicled groin flap transfer can cause some complications, such as joint stiffness and edema, which can be prevented through early intervention …

Background and purposes: Family-centered service (FCS) has been considered as relevant in pediatric rehabilitation to children with developmental disabilities. Given that there are many challenges in practice and a lack of evidence regarding its implementation in Taiwan, the study aimed to investigate that to what extent FCS was being practiced from parents' perceptions. Methods: This study includes a total of 100 parents/caregivers whose child had a primary condition associated with developmental disabilities and aged from 2 to 12 years (Mean age=4.6 years, SD=1.8 years). In this casereport, we present a pair of siblings, a 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old woman, who were both diagnosed as having late-onset Pompe disease. Each underwent cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) in 2013 and 2015, respectively. The major finding in these two cases was that enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) over a 24-month period improved or stabilized pulmonary function despite late-onset Pompe disease. CPET revealed improved aerobic capacity in the brother, who was physically active, but deterioration in the sister, who lived a sedentary lifestyle. The findings of our cases are compatible with the current consensus that ERT can stabilize or …

At present, there is no comprehensive gross motor and fine motor assessment scales for preschool children in Taiwan. Complications following cervical manipulation can be classified as cerebrovascular or noncerebrovascular complications. The former complications occur more frequently, and they are usually due to vertebral artery occlusion, damage or thrombus formation. Purpose: Previous studies conducted on pressure garments have suggested that compression garments may have positive effects on cardiopulmonary function while performing exercises by improving peripheral venous return and reducing muscle oscillation that may cause energy loss.
