The paper presents the internationalization processes in the grocery retail market in Poland in 1990–2015. The study was conducted on the basis of the analysis of secondary data which allowed identifying foreign entities operating in this market and describing key dimensions of their strategy. The basic conclusions of the analysis are the following: (1) market dominance of foreign companies in the grocery retail market – their market share was above 50%; (2) the breakthrough year in the process of internationalization was 2001; (3) the most common entry strategy was greenfield direct investment; (4) foreign investors came from highly developed European …

The notion ‘trade format’ means a particular way of carrying out retailing or wholesaling, in the stationary or non-stationary form. The aim of the article is to identify the changes that took place in formats of stationary retail trade in fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) in Poland in 2008–2015. The article data from the review of secondary data and primary research shows that the preferences and buying trends among Poles have changed over twenty five years. Discounters are currently the fastest growing trading format, in which more than 70% of consumers buy. The market leader in the retail chain sector is Biedronka, which increased the number of shops by 1745 in the period of 2006–2015. The subject of the article is an analysis of consumer attitudes towards brands. It is a research article that includes the results of empirical research on consumer attitudes in Poland to chocolate brands belonging to producers and brands belonging to distributors. The aim of this study was to analyze the product strategy of trade brands of dairy products in two main discount chains in Poland (Biedronka and Lidl). Empirical research was conducted to review the assortment of main trade brands in 18 product groups in 2013 and 2015. Special attention was given to identification of strategies applied by discount chains, especially strategies of brand architecture and brand positioning for particular groups of consumers, taste differentiation, packaging size as well as food additives. The analyses were conducted in three main areas including dairy beverages and desserts, cheeses and other dairy products.

In the reign of King Chulalongkorn (King Rama V), Japan was seen as a country which contributed to the development of traditional needlework and weaving for Th ai women in several ways. In addition to being the source of knowledge for Th ai women who studied further in the country, Japan also sent experts to Th ailand to teach Th ai women. This study aims at investigating the similarities and differences between Thai and Japanese smiling facial expressions. The interview was conducted with Thai and Japanese participants. The results show that Thais tend to experience happiness in situations related to excitement and stability signifi cantly more than the Japanese, while the Japanese tend to experience happiness in situations related to relief and self-concept to a signifi cantly greater degree than Thais. Waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) has been high on the environmental policy agenda of many countries due to its rapidly increasing volume and concerns over its toxicity and the critical metals it holds. To date, 59 countries have passed laws for WEEE management (ex-cluding State level legislation in the USA and Canada). This paper describes an assessment of the carbon footprint (CF) of a silver ring, together with an attempt to measurematerial and energy consumption. The boundary of analyzing CF was defined as Business to Business (B2B). All primary data were obtained from a survey of the case study factory. Acquisition of raw material (silver) was the main GHG contribution to the overall CF and was thus considered as a CF hotspot. Acquisition accounted for 0.9740 kg CO2e or 94.44% of total emissions, followed by production processes (0.0573 kg CO2e) and tran-sportation (0.002 kg CO2e). The total CF amounted to 1.03 kg …

Marine pollution prevention through adequate provision of garbage reception facility (GRF) is a legal obligation of every port. According to MARPOL 73/78, each port authority should explore ways to increase its ability to prevent marine pollution from ship-generated waste. The paper supports this legal requirement by developing an econometric model for estimating the amount of operational waste delivered at GRF. Diffusion dialysis (DD) equipped with anion exchange membranes (AEMs) is used as an effective tool to recover acidfrom various types of waste acid solutions. The aim of this study was to investigate the possibility of using the DD process to recover sulfuric acid (HsSO4) from the acidic wastewater from an automotive battery plant. A numbers of experimental runs was conducted to optimize the equipment's operating conditions, particularly variations in feed flow and flow rate ratios . This study aimed to detect the genotoxiceffects of glyphosate on aquatic plants by the RAPD-PCR technique. Native aquatic plants were screened for herbicide testing. The aquatic plant amounts and species were counted and a comparison was made between natural ponds and paddy fields for a total of 17 sites; paddy fields (site 1-10), ponds beside paddy fields (site 11-14), and natural ponds (site 15-17). At each studied site, 5 randomized sampling plots of 2 x 5 m size were performed. Generally, the natural ponds contained more aquatic plant diversity than the paddy fields.
