Comparative Study Of School And Science Teacher Technology Leaderships In High And Middle Schools In The United States And China, Ying Tang Jan 2016

Comparative Study Of School And Science Teacher Technology Leaderships In High And Middle Schools In The United States And China, Ying Tang

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Researchers found that various schools took different technology leadership approaches and that school leadership practices were empirically associated with outcomes for teacher performance and student learning. To date, few studies systematically examined the salient aspects of school technology leadership (STL) and science teacher technology leadership (STTL), and the effects of country and grade-level on school and science teacher technology leaderships. A comprehensive technology leadership model was lacking for secondary school science education. Therefore, this research study focused on the status of school technology leadership, science teacher technology leadership, and their relationships and differences across country and grade. In this study, …

Investigating The Psychometric Properties Of The Self-Compassion Scale: Using Confirmatory And Exploratory Factor Models, Jennifer Marie Barton Jan 2016

Investigating The Psychometric Properties Of The Self-Compassion Scale: Using Confirmatory And Exploratory Factor Models, Jennifer Marie Barton

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Self-compassion has quickly gained recognition for its many cognitive, emotional, and psychological benefits (Neff, 2003b). The Self-Compassion Scale (SCS; Neff, 2003a) is currently the only instrument measuring self-compassion and is commonly used. The current model contains six factors: self-kindness, self-judgment, common humanity, isolation, mindfulness, and over-identification. However, the SCS has recently come under fire due to limited evidence of its psychometric properties (Lopez et al., 2015). Researchers who have attempted to replicate the factor structure proposed by Neff have found mixed results using both exploratory and confirmatory methods. Our primary aim is to establish the factor structure of the SCS …

Analysis Of A Long-Term Record Of Nearshore Currents And Implications In Littoral Transport Processes, Carolina Burnette Jan 2016

Analysis Of A Long-Term Record Of Nearshore Currents And Implications In Littoral Transport Processes, Carolina Burnette

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

A seasonal and long-term analysis of the vertical structure of currents in the nearshore is conducted to determine the role of the wind in driving currents and consequently affecting littoral transport processes. Approximately ten years (January, 2002 – October, 2011) of nearshore current profiles are examined using the data collected with an Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) installed off of Spessard Holland North Beach Park located in Melbourne Beach, Florida. Additionally, wind data collected with a directional anemometer from September, 2002, until October, 2008, are used to further characterize the long-term hydrodynamic forcing. With the shoreline oriented nominally 17o …

The Mechanics And Fixed Operations Of Human Experience, James Dominick Di Netta Jan 2016

The Mechanics And Fixed Operations Of Human Experience, James Dominick Di Netta

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

This paper will use the natural laws of the universe and amassed evidence to support a dynamic systems theory approach to explain the mechanics and fixed operations of the human experience taking place inside a causally determined universe without the possibility of free will. By reductionary methods, the universe and all its’ contents, including human agents, will be exemplified as complex dynamic systems. In so doing, the human experience is reduced to being comprised of information acting and reacting with other information existing in the universe, specifically ideas. Allowing ideas to take on a physical manifestation shows how the feedback …

Politics Of Identity In Nepal - Implications For Theories Of Regionalism, Kedar P. Badu Jan 2016

Politics Of Identity In Nepal - Implications For Theories Of Regionalism, Kedar P. Badu

Research Papers

Due to incredible socioeconomic stratification of society in the context of extreme demographic and regional diversity, regionalism has been a crucial political issue for Nepal during the recent democratic transition. The traditional power elite belonging to hill “high caste” groups are trying to maintain the centralized power structure to protect their own interests. On the other hand, various ethnic and regional identity groups, who have fought for autonomy and self-rule, want their identity and rights to be recognized. Despite the promulgation of the federal constitution by the Constitutional Assembly in 2015, many ethnic and regional identity groups have expressed their …

The Factors Of Prosodic Phrasing In Thai(ปัจจัยในการสร้างหน่วยประกอบทางสัทสัมพันธ์ในภาษาไทย), มนต์ชัย เดชะพิพัฒน์สกุล, พิทยาวัฒน์ พิทยาภรณ์ Jan 2016

The Factors Of Prosodic Phrasing In Thai(ปัจจัยในการสร้างหน่วยประกอบทางสัทสัมพันธ์ในภาษาไทย), มนต์ชัย เดชะพิพัฒน์สกุล, พิทยาวัฒน์ พิทยาภรณ์

Journal of Letters

This paper aims to investigate the factors which influence prosodic phrasing in Thai. The data comprise 107 utterances consist of simple, compound, and complex sentences. The complex sentences are structurally different among thîi or wâa verb-complement clause constructions, thîi noun-complement clause constructions, thîi or sɨ̂ŋ relative clause constructions, hâi or thamhâi causative constructions, and clauses preceded by sɨ̂ŋ or dooj discourse markers. To find prosodic constituent boundaries in each utterance, an online experimental test was conducted. 37 informants were asked to phrase the utterance by assigning a pause or pauses in certain positions in the utterances. The finding shows that …

Journal of Letters

In previous studies, there have been disagreements over the analyses on kaanthii- and khwaamthii- constructions which are analyzed as 5 different types of constructions. This article aims to examine these two constructions on two unsettled major issues. The first is whether kaan/khwaam and thii are two separated units as [kaan/khwaam][thii-], i.e., the head nouns kaan/khwaam modified by the thii- noun-modifying clause, or are counted as a single grammatical morpheme as [kaanthii-] and [khwaamthii-]. The other issue is what grammatical functions of kaanthii- and khwaamthii- truly are, in other words, what kinds of constructions the clauses preceded with kaanthii- and khwaamthii- …

How Undergraduates' Involvement Affects Sense Of Belonging In Courses That Use Technology, Leroy L. Long Iii

Publications

In order to increase the number of American degree recipients in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), academics must continually develop ways to improve students’ interest, retention, and success in fields like engineering. Prior researchers have studied the use of educational technology as a way to improve student outcomes and skills. Previous scholars have also investigated students’ perceptions of the usefulness of technology. However, it is unclear if a statistically significant relationship exists between students’ involvement in courses that use technology and their sense of belonging to others on campus. The present study addressed this gap by examining the relationship …

America West Airlines acquired the bankrupt US Airways on September 27, 2005 to form the US Airways Group. Our paper analyzes the post-merger performance of the US Airways Group using airline operating metrics and financial ratios for the period 2005 to 2013. While the airline has still a long way to go to improve its leverage and liquidity ratios, its capital structure and ability to pay its obligations have improved since 2005. Moreover, although the airline is still inefficient in utilizing its assets, the efficiency improvements achieved since the merger have resulted in profits and positive returns to investors. Its …

Students' Perception Of The Flipped Classroom In Graphical Communications, Lulu Sun Jan 2016

Students' Perception Of The Flipped Classroom In Graphical Communications, Lulu Sun

Publications

The flipped classroom requires students to study concepts before the class, apply what they learn in the classroom, and work with other students, which then makes it possible to get immediate feedback from the instructor. However, the student’s perception of the flipped classroom is not widely investigated in the area of engineering graphics. This paper presents a study of the flipped classroom in a Graphical Communications course. Students are required to study course material online before the face-to-face classroom experience. The online course study includes multimedia materials and an online quiz that they are required to take. The results of …

Plasma Density Analysis Of Cubesat Wakes In The Earth’S Ionosphere, Robert M. Albarran Ii, Aroh Barjatya Jan 2016

Plasma Density Analysis Of Cubesat Wakes In The Earth’S Ionosphere, Robert M. Albarran Ii, Aroh Barjatya

Publications

Spinning or tumbling CubeSats with Langmuir probes deployed on booms will render spin-modulated plasma densities as the probes move in and out of the spacecraft wake. It is traditionally assumed that the lower-density measurements from the spin cycle are made in the spacecraft wake, and the higher-density measurements are outside the wake. Although this assumption is valid for larger spacecraft in the Earth’s ionosphere, this paper scrutinizes its validity for CubeSats in similar conditions. Spacecraft–plasma interactions (surface charging, plasma sheaths, and wakes) are less understood for CubeSats, and the small CubeSat dimensions must be considered with respect to characteristic length …
