Effects Of Exchange Rate Changes On S&P 500 Price Movement, Amy E. Fellers
Research Papers
This paper investigates the relationship between the S&P 500 stock price movements compared to the currency exchange rate movement of the five largest trading partners of the United States. The top five countries that the United States trades with are Canada, China, Germany, Japan, and Mexico. The purpose of this research is to answer the following question: Can the movement of the S&P 500 be determined by the currency exchange rates of the top five countries the United States trade with the most? For this paper, we assume that exchange rates explain the trading patterns of countries. To further analyze …

The Virtue Gap In Humor: Exploring Benevolent And Corrective Humor., W Ruch, S Heintz
The Virtue Gap In Humor: Exploring Benevolent And Corrective Humor., W Ruch, S Heintz
School of Psychology
The recent emergence of positive psychology gave rise to the idea to conceptualize humor from a “good character” perspective (Peterson & Seligman, 2004). Present constructs, however, show a “virtue gap”, and the two concepts of benevolent and corrective humor were developed to fill this gap. The former describes a humorous outlook on life that entails the realistic observations and understanding of human weaknesses (and the imperfection of the world) but also their benevolent humorous treatment. By contrast, corrective humor involves moral based ridicule; that is, the use of mockery to fight badness and mediocrity. Corrective humor, akin to satire, uses …

When an object comes into possession, the owner will typically think that it is worth more than it did before they owned the item in a bias known as the endowment effect. This bias is particularly robust in Western societies with independent self-construals, but has not been observed in children below 5-6years of age. In three studies, we investigated whether endowment effect can be induced in younger children by focusing their attention on themselves. 120 children aged 3-4years evaluated toys before and after a task where they made pictures of themselves, a friend or a neutral farm scene. Over the …
An Ewp Model Of Quechua Agreement: Further Evidence Against Dm, Joseph A. Stanley
An Ewp Model Of Quechua Agreement: Further Evidence Against Dm, Joseph A. Stanley
Faculty Publications
In this paper we first describe the Quechua verbal agreement paradigm using two generative morphological theories and then argue that Anderson’s EWP accounts for the data better than Distributed Morphology (DM). Kerke (1996) has already shown evidence against DM using this paradigm, and we provide additional support for this.
The Quechua verbs conjugate to agree with the subject and the object of the VP in one of three tenses (Table 1). Each cell contains up to five morphemes, from a selection of twelve, which appear consistently in the same order. Though there is some semblance of regularity in the paradigm, …

Nevada Supreme Court Summaries
The Supreme Court of Nevada held that the doctrine of mutual mistake is not grounds for rescission of a contract when the party bears the risk of mistake. The party bears the risk of mistake if the party is aware at the time of the formation of the contract that they only have limited knowledge of the facts to which the mistake relates, but treats that knowledge as sufficient, the court will allocate the risk of mistake to that party.

This case involved the question of whether a counties’ approval of subdivision maps and street dedications which included a drainage system constituted inverse condemnation where the plaintiff’s property flooded as a result. The Supreme Court of Nevada adopted a six part element test for inverse condemnation, and determined that genuine issues of material fact existed as to whether the County’s actions constituted substantial involvement in the drainage system sufficient to deem it public use.
