Viewing Obama’S Legacy In Higher Education., Aldemaro Romero Jr.
Viewing Obama’S Legacy In Higher Education., Aldemaro Romero Jr.
Publications and Research
For eight years as president, Barack Obama showed
an unusual interest in reforming higher education
when compared with any other U.S. president in history.
Most concerned themselves with primary and
secondary education. The only possible exception is
Abraham Lincoln, under whose administration the
land grant university system was created.
One reason for his interest in higher education may
be because Obama himself once taught at the law school
of the University of Chicago. Another may be that, in
retrospect, Obama has always been a great admirer of
Lincoln, mirroring his stances on many issues.

Data Curation And The Arts: How Do Musicians Curate Their Data?, Amy S. Jackson, Jon Wheeler, Todd Quinn
Data Curation And The Arts: How Do Musicians Curate Their Data?, Amy S. Jackson, Jon Wheeler, Todd Quinn
University Libraries & Learning Sciences Faculty and Staff Publications
Professional musicians were surveyed to determine how personal, amateur recordings of performances are shared with students and colleagues. Sharing files on social media is common, with Facebook, YouTube, and Vimeo used most frequently. Although these are popular social media platforms, they do not have enhanced format support and robust metadata. Additionally, licensing terms for each platform differ, and may be not in the best interest of the musician. Although recordings are not traditionally considered data, data curation principles can be applied to these types of files, and the library is positioned to become an active participant in this process.

“Keeping Down The Underground:” The Underrated Value Of Indie Music Scenes As Economic Development Tools For Small American Cities, Meghan Mckinney
Honors Theses
Indie music holds the largest share of the global music market and is a multibillion-dollar industry. On a more local scale, indie music can contribute significant revenue to small American cities through locally owned independent record stores, live venues, and festivals. Each of these elements, with the addition of the people involved in indie music in a variety of capacities, interacts within a centralized location known as an indie music scene. Collectively, these scenes can generate massive amounts of revenue through music sales, ticket sales, tourism, and various other business offerings. To the small cities in which these scenes operate, …

Suffering Sappho! Female Friendships In Superhero Comics, 1940s To 1960s And Today, Hannah R. Costelle
Honors Theses
Comic book superheroines are the goddesses of modern times; they are the ideal beautiful, powerful women of America’s collective imagination whom girls have looked up to and emulated for decades. But these iconic examples of womanhood usually lack one of the key elements of humanity that enrich real women’s lives, an element that has been proven to increase women’s autonomy and confidence: female friendships. Wonder Woman may have led armies of female friends in the 1940s when superheroines first appeared in the comics pages, but by the 1950s and ‘60s, female characters confiding in one another and working together in …

Roeck: I mean, it’s “a” future. It’s like half what I want to be and half completely not what I want. I didn’t want to create a future that I was entirely excited about because I’m not actually that excited about the future. It looks pretty fucking grim.
