Physical Therapy And Above-Knee Amputation Pre-Prosthetic Rehabilitation: A Case Report, Sierra J. Maucort
Physical Therapy And Above-Knee Amputation Pre-Prosthetic Rehabilitation: A Case Report, Sierra J. Maucort
Physical Therapy Scholarly Projects
Background and Purpose: Promotion of functional mobility through surgical and therapeutic interventions has seen a dramatic increase within the past decade due to the aging population and increased push for objective functional assessment data. A key to obtaining optimal functional performance is core stability and this can be applied to individuals with a variety of limitations including an amputation. The purposes of this case study are to look at the preprosthetic rehabilitation regimen of an individual with an above-knee amputation and discuss the importance of key elements that should be present in a pre-prosthetic training program to allow a …

Children Exposed To Intimate Partner Violence: Identifying Differential Effects Of Family Environment On Children's Trauma And Psychopathology Symptoms Through Regression Mixture Models, Shelby Elaine Mcdonald, Sunny Shin, Rosalie Corona, Anna Maternick, Sandra A. Graham-Bermann, Frank R. Ascione, James Herbert Williams
Social Work Publications
The majority of analytic approaches aimed at understanding the influence of environmental context on children's socioemotional adjustment assume comparable effects of contextual risk and protective factors for all children. Using self-reported data from 289 maternal caregiver-child dyads, we examined the degree to which there are differential effects of severity of intimate partner violence (IPV) exposure, yearly household income, and number of children in the family on posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTS) and psychopathology symptoms (i.e., internalizing and externalizing problems) among school-age children between the ages of 7–12 years. A regression mixture model identified three latent classes that were primarily distinguished by …

Personality Traits In College Students And Caregiving For A Relative With A Chronic Health Condition, Michael A. Trujillo, Paul B. Perrin, Aaliah Elnasseh, Bradford S. Pierce, Melody Mickens
Psychology Publications
The purpose of this study was to investigate among college students the relationship between personality traits and willingness to care for a relative with a chronic health condition. 329 undergraduate students completed an online questionnaire. Hierarchical multiple regressions found that after controlling for demographics personality traits explained 10% of the variance in willingness to provide emotional care, 7% in instrumental care, and 7% in nursing care. Within these models, greater empathy was uniquely associated with willingness to provide emotional, instrumental, and nursing care for a family member in the future. Similarly, participants with high agreeableness were more willing to provide …

Online Journal Club To Improve Perception Of Interprofessional Collaboration, Russelyn Connor
Online Journal Club To Improve Perception Of Interprofessional Collaboration, Russelyn Connor
Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)
Problem
Rural community mental health centers (CMHC) can be spread across many counties with various locations and programs. Physical isolation and professional diversity often create a perception among staff of poor interprofessional collaboration (IPC). A strong need exists in such settings to use up-to-date internet technology to manage collaboration, as mandated by the Institute of Medicine and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.
The Capstone practice question is to discover if, for staff from all sites of a mental health center who volunteer to participate, does the creation of an online asynchronous monthly journal club lead to improvement of …

Professional Doctorates 2016: Updates And Further Recommendations, Walden University Professional Doctorate Working Group 2
White Papers
The charge to this second working group was to examine the 2012 recommendations and clarify Walden’s position on professional doctorates. Unlike the first effort that addressed differences between professional and academic doctorates, the expectations for this group were to focus on the commonalities in the university’s professional doctorates; set clear and consistent definitions, standards, and requirements for our professional doctorates; and link those programs to employment paths more directly. From the outset, the working group acknowledged that any outcome will be a “living document” that continues to be refined as discussion continues in the university community.

Parenting Practices, Racial Socialization, And Adolescent Functioning In African American Families, Adeya Richmond, Laura D. Pittman
Parenting Practices, Racial Socialization, And Adolescent Functioning In African American Families, Adeya Richmond, Laura D. Pittman
Papers from the International Association for Cross-Cultural Psychology Conferences
African American parents’ use of racial socialization messages has been associated with other parenting practices and behaviors as well as adolescent functioning. This study explored the relationships among racial socialization, general parenting practices (e.g., parental monitoring knowledge, harsh parental discipline, and parent-child relationship) and three psychological outcomes (e.g., scholastic competence, self-esteem, and externalizing behaviors) among 103 African American adolescents. Based on linear regressions, adolescents’ scholastic competence was positively associated with cultural socialization and negatively associated with promotion of mistrust, but self-esteem and externalizing behaviors were not linked to any racial socialization dimension. Further, cultural socialization was …

A Study Of South Asian Refugee’S Settlement Experiences In Estonia, Aminul Islam
A Study Of South Asian Refugee’S Settlement Experiences In Estonia, Aminul Islam
Khazar Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences
This paper presents the experiences of South Asian refugees in Estonia and their subsequent settlement procedure by using Anthony Giddens’s concept of Structure and Agency. Investigation was carried out by a qualitative approach with a sample of South Asian refugees who have settled in Estonia. Focus was to address how respondents express their agency within a given structure of a new society. In light of the outcomes, individual preferences and differences of thinking level was evident and it is argued that they form heterogeneous presence in contrast to what they are being portrayed of mere victims or sufferers by general …

Toward An Ontology Of Workarounds: A Literature Review On Existing Concepts, Nina Röder, Manuel Wiesche, Michael Schermann, Helmut Krcmar
Toward An Ontology Of Workarounds: A Literature Review On Existing Concepts, Nina Röder, Manuel Wiesche, Michael Schermann, Helmut Krcmar
Information Systems and Analytics
While workarounds are studied frequently in information systems research, a coherent and interrelated structure to organize the knowledge of the field is still missing. In this study, we provide a first step towards an ontology of workarounds in order to enable researchers to study the relationships among the core concepts. By identifying existing literature, we discover three gaps in workaround research: (1) lack of conceptual consensus, (2) fragmentation and (3) static perspective. To advance theory, we provide an overview of different types of workarounds that are frequently used in literature. Based on these findings we derive core concepts of workarounds …
Bundle Vs. Non-Bundle: Looking At Differences In Care And Outcomes At A Skilled Nursing Facility, Georgia Tsmasiros
Bundle Vs. Non-Bundle: Looking At Differences In Care And Outcomes At A Skilled Nursing Facility, Georgia Tsmasiros
Capstone Projects 2015-Present
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) introduced the Bundled Payments for Care Improvement Initiative (BPCI) in 2013 in an effort for consumers to have higher quality and more coordinated care. This research compared the care and outcomes of four individuals with bundled payment insurance plans and four non-bundle insured individuals with the same diagnosis, accessing rehabilitation services at a skilled nursing facility. The results show no observable differences between the outcomes of individuals with a bundled insurance plan and individuals without a bundled insurance plan. The financial implications are negative for healthcare agencies participating in BPCI who must …
