The purpose of both the Utah Women & Leadership Project (UWLP) Research & Policy Brief Series and the Research Snapshot Series is to provide data that can be useful to individuals, groups, organizations, and communities toward efforts to improve the equality and impact of girls and women throughout the state. A host of state rankings has continually listed Utah as one of the worst states in the nation for women. Although we disagree with some of the measures, it remains clear that change is needed to strengthen the impact of Utah women for the good of women themselves, families, communities, …

Cutting taxes in order to spur economic development
is an idea still making its way around
the political landscape. It doesn’t seem to matter
how many times “trickle down” economics has
been debunked not only by economists, but also
by history, it seems to linger. Yet, this is part of
an ideology that is considered as gospel by many
politicians.
Of course the idea has one superficial appeal
and one superficial appeal only. It promises to
cut taxes, even if the ones who benefit the most
from such policies are the ones who need them
the least.

Conclusion
Most rural Nebraskans have elementary, middle and high schools in their community or nearest community. Most of the schools available are public but many rural Nebraskans report having both public and private schools of each grade level. Persons living in or near larger communities are more likely than persons living in or near smaller communities to have each level of school in their community. And, persons living in or near the larger communities are more likely than persons living in or near smaller communities to have both public and private schools available.

Deference To The Lower Court: How The Seventh Circuit Improperly Granted Habeas Corpus Relief In Jensen V. Clements, David J. Welch
Seventh Circuit Review
As Justice Blackstone once opined, a writ of habeas corpus, oft referred to as the “great Writ,” is “another Magna Carta” established to safeguard people imprisoned in violation of the law. Codified under 28 U.S.C. § 2254, the writ compels a judicial body to review the legality of a state prisoner’s conviction. A granted writ of habeas corpus may require the court to set aside or vacate the conviction or detention. If a petitioner’s case has already been adjudicated on the merits in state court, then the writ cannot be granted. However, if the petitioner can show that either the …

The unofficial, internal culture of An Garda Siochana is an area where there has been a deficit of academic research and scrutiny despite it being existential to the public discourse on garda reform, especially in recent years. It has been pointed out that the lack of data on the organisational value system of the Irish police is due in part to the nascent state of criminological research in Ireland and a reluctance on the part of the Garda authorities to co-operate in research studies. The primary objective of this study was to explore one aspect of police culture: the impact …

Using Photovoice To Understand Climate Change Adaptation In Rural Ontario, Kylie Hissa
Using Photovoice To Understand Climate Change Adaptation In Rural Ontario, Kylie Hissa
Geography and Environmental Studies Major Research Papers
The examination of community adaptation and resilience approaches to address the threats of climate change in rural Ontario is becoming increasingly important in emergency management and preparedness. Community engagement becomes critical in this regard, as local experiences partly influence perceptions of climate change risks within municipalities. Photovoice is a community-based participatory research methodology that empowers participants to document their perceptions and understandings of a particular issue through the use of visual images. This technique was undertaken to understand the impacts of the F3 tornado that hit the community of Goderich, Ontario in 2011 and capture their member’s perceptions on disaster …

Fisheries Research Reports
Following five fatal incidents involving white sharks (Carcharodon carcharias) off the lower west coast of Western Australia between September 2011 and July 2012, as well as other highly-publicised non-fatal encounters with this species, in 2012 the State Government funded several new initiatives to better understand white sharks in Western Australia and the likely effectiveness of any community safety interventions in Western Australian waters.
