Black-Scholes Equation And Heat Equation, Charles D. Joyner Jan 2016

Black-Scholes Equation And Heat Equation, Charles D. Joyner

Honors College Theses

First, we present and define the Black-Scholes equation which is used to model assets on the stock market. After that, we derive the heat equation that describes how the temperature increases through a homogeneous material. Finally, we detail how the two equations are related. We introduce and relate the Black-Scholes equation and Heat Equation.

From Qcd To Physical Resonances, Daniel R. Bolton, Raúl A. Briceño, David J. Wilson Jan 2016

From Qcd To Physical Resonances, Daniel R. Bolton, Raúl A. Briceño, David J. Wilson

Physics Faculty Publications

In this talk, we present the first chiral extrapolation of a resonant scattering amplitude obtained from lattice QCD. Finite-volume spectra, determined by the Hadron Spectrum Collaboration at mπ = 236 MeV [1], for the isotriplet ππ channel are analyzed using the Lüscher method to determine the infinite-volume scattering amplitude. Unitarized Chiral Perturbation Theory is then used to extrapolate the scattering amplitude to the physical light quark masses. The viability of this procedure is demonstrated by its agreement with the experimentally determined scattering phase shift up to center-of-mass energies of 1.2 GeV. Finally, we analytically continue the amplitude to …

𝜋𝜋 → 𝜋𝛾* Amplitude And The Resonant 𝜌 → 𝜋𝛾* Transition From Lattice Qcd, Raúl A. Briceño, Jozef J. Dudek, Robert G. Edwards, Christian J. Shultz, Christopher E. Thomas, David J. Wilson

We present a determination of the P-wave 𝜋𝜋 → 𝜋𝛾⋆ transition amplitude from lattice quantum chromodynamics. Matrix elements of the vector current in a finite volume are extracted from three-point correlation functions, and from these we determine the infinite-volume amplitude using a generalization of the Lellouch-Lüscher formalism. We determine the amplitude for a range of discrete values of the 𝜋𝜋 energy and virtuality of the photon and observe the expected dynamical enhancement due to the ρ resonance. Describing the energy dependence of the amplitude, we are able to analytically continue into the complex energy plane and from the residue …

Relativistic, Model-Independent, Multichannel 2 → 2 Transition Amplitudes In A Finite Volume, Raúl A. Briceño, Maxwell T. Hansen Jan 2016

Relativistic, Model-Independent, Multichannel 2 → 2 Transition Amplitudes In A Finite Volume, Raúl A. Briceño, Maxwell T. Hansen

Physics Faculty Publications

We derive formalism for determining 2+𝓙 → 2 infinite-volume transition amplitudes from finite-volume matrix elements. Specifically, we present a relativistic, model-independent relation between finite-volume matrix elements of external currents and the physically observable infinite-volume matrix elements involving two-particle asymptotic states. The result presented holds for states composed of two scalar bosons. These can be identical or nonidentical and, in the latter case, can be either degenerate or nondegenerate. We further accommodate any number of strongly coupled two-scalar channels. This formalism will, for example, allow future lattice QCD calculations of the ρ-meson form factor, in which the unstable nature of …

Lhc Crab Cavity Coupler Test Boxes, J. A. Mitchell, R. Apsimon, G. Burt, R. Calaga, A. Macpherson, E. Montesinos, S.D. Silva, A.R.J. Tutte, B.P. Xiao Jan 2016

Lhc Crab Cavity Coupler Test Boxes, J. A. Mitchell, R. Apsimon, G. Burt, R. Calaga, A. Macpherson, E. Montesinos, S.D. Silva, A.R.J. Tutte, B.P. Xiao

Physics Faculty Publications

The LHC double quarter wave (DQW) crab cavities have two different types of Higher Order Mode (HOM) couplers in addition to a fundamental power coupler (FPC). The FPC requires conditioning, so to achieve this we have designed a radio-frequency (RF) quarter wave resonator to provide high transmission between two opposing FPCs. For the HOM couplers we must ensure that the stop-band filter is positioned at the cavity frequency and that peak transmission occurs at the same frequencies as the strongest HOMs. We have designed two test boxes which preserve the cavity spectral response in order to test the couplers.

Using Illustrations And Storytelling Via Incarnational Ministry To Reach Post-Christian Young Adults, David J. Resendes Jan 2016

Using Illustrations And Storytelling Via Incarnational Ministry To Reach Post-Christian Young Adults, David J. Resendes

Doctor of Ministry Projects

Problem

Post-Christian young adults are generally not interested in Christianity and therefore are unlikely to attend church or hear preaching. Therefore, a preaching strategy must be developed and implemented to reach post-Christian young adults in their setting.

Method

The subjects of the study were 24 young adult males from the community who attended the weekly open-gym basketball outreach. They ranged in age from 16 to 34 and were of various races and some of mixed race. All were born and raised in the United States and spoke English. Of these subjects only two were from the church I pastor. One …

Reviving Family Worship In The Rocky Mountain Indonesian Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Purasa Marpaung Jan 2016

Reviving Family Worship In The Rocky Mountain Indonesian Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Purasa Marpaung

Doctor of Ministry Projects

Problem

Seventh-day Adventist immigrants struggle to maintain Indonesian Adventist family worship practices in the process of assimilating to the United States culture. In particular, the family worship practices of the Rocky Mountain Indonesian Seventh-day Adventist Church have been adapted to fit the American environment and lifestyle. The practical family worship activities that were an essential component of the culture and identity of the people of Indonesian heritage are disappearing through exposure to new ideas and methods of worship. This lack of family worship in immigrant families must be addressed through cultural as well as theological perspectives.

Method

Couples, with at …

A Training Program For Non-Chaplain And Volunteer Chaplains Conducting Spiritual Care At Feather River Hospital In Paradise, California, Brad B. Brown Jan 2016

A Training Program For Non-Chaplain And Volunteer Chaplains Conducting Spiritual Care At Feather River Hospital In Paradise, California, Brad B. Brown

Doctor of Ministry Projects

Problem

Responsibilities of chaplain services at Feather River Hospital (FRH) primarily include completing its mission of whole-person care by providing spiritual and emotional support to the patients and staff. However, the challenge of meeting this goal historically is due to insufficient funding to hire adequate staff chaplains to provide this service. Per conversation with fellow chaplains of other hospitals, this same staffing challenge in meeting the spiritual and emotional component of whole-person care is consistent. However, there is a potential solution. Staff and community volunteers with a spiritual bent have shown interest in filling this gap of spiritual and emotional …

Exploring Teacher And Administrator Perceptions Of Grade Retention On Middle School Student, Wendy A. Cora Jan 2016

Exploring Teacher And Administrator Perceptions Of Grade Retention On Middle School Student, Wendy A. Cora

Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive

This applied dissertation was designed to explore teacher and administrator perceptions of grade retention on middle school students’ performance by examining perceived benefits and drawbacks of the practice of retention to grade, and also, to examine their perceptions of major negative and positive issues that might impact students retained in middle grades and determine critical features of successful retention practices in middle school according to teachers and administrators. The research was conducted at a middle school in Central Florida through a voluntary questionnaire via Survey Monkey. Voluntary participants were school administrators, general and special education teachers, instructional coaches, and guidance …
