Supervision In Practice Education And Transition To Practice: Student And New Graduate Perceptions, Sophie Melman, Samantha E. Ashby, Carole James
Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice
Purpose: Transitioning into occupational therapy practice is a complex process in which new graduates develop their skills and professional identity. Evidence suggests this process requires guidance and support through supervision. This study investigated final year students’ and newly graduated occupational therapists’ perceptions and expectations of the role and efficacy of supervision as they transition into practice. Methods: A cross sectional online survey was sent to final year students and newly graduated occupational therapists within Australia and New Zealand, to explore experiences, perceptions, and the content of supervision received in practice. Results: Of 151 participants, 96% received supervision from an experienced …

New Evangelization, New Families, And New Singles, Jana Marguerite Bennett
New Evangelization, New Families, And New Singles, Jana Marguerite Bennett
Theology and Religious Studies Faculty Publications
When Pope Francis issued his calls for a synod in 2013, he stated that he wanted bishops to discuss the “pastoral challenges of the family in the context of evangelization,” surely also a link to the recent calls for a “New Evangelization.” Evangelization has long been tied to Catholic understandings of family. Parents are deemed the original source of Christian evangelization and witness for their children, and thus the family is assumed to be at the center of any kind of broader evangelization that happens. It makes sense, then, that family becomes a central topic of conversation for bishops in …

In October, 2011, Terry Thompson committed suicide by gunshot after cutting open the cages of fifty-six exotic animals on his farm in Zanesville, Ohio. Fearing for pub-lic safety, law enforcement officers systematically hunted down the escaped animals in an episode that garnered international attention and prompted renewed discus-sion of the propriety of exotic animal ownership. This Article retells and discusses the circumstances surrounding Terry Thompson’s unhinging, applying frameworks of legal theory, chiefly in the realm of property law, to assess the fabric that held Thompson’s delicate system together and the tensions that led to its unravelling. As an autopsy, the …

Exploring Anthropological Monism For Pastoral Care Practice In A Local Church, Michael Robert Mcleod
Exploring Anthropological Monism For Pastoral Care Practice In A Local Church, Michael Robert Mcleod
All Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This research project explored the viability and benefits of anthropological monism for pastoral care practice in a local church. Monism, as it relates to human nature, refers to humanity consisting solely of materiality or physicality from which emerge all capacities and functions of the human individual⎯feeling, thinking, relating, acting, or experiencing God, self, others, or the world in general. Biblically and theologically, anthropological monism can point to integration for holism to overcome life disruption and fragmentation due to sin. It can also highlight embodiment and refocus the church towards human physicality and the prominence of resurrection for end-of-life outcomes rather …

The Stuttgart Declaration Of 1945: A Casy Study Of Guilt, Forgiveness And Foreign Policy - Chapter 15 From "Trinity And Transformation: J. B. Torrance's Vision Of Worship, Mission, And Society", Roger Newell
Faculty Publications - George Fox School of Theology
J. B. Torrance was one of the few theologians of our era whose exposition of fundamental Christian theology spoke prophetically to the church’s social and political witness to the Gospel. This essay examines how Torrance’s analysis of forgiveness casts fresh light on the process whereby relations between the Protestant churches of Europe and America were restored in the chaotic aftermath of postwar Germany. The essay argues that the result of their meeting for reconciliation, the Stuttgart Declaration of Guilt, prepared the way for the Allies to set aside policies of collective punishment in favor of policies which supported reconciliation and …

Family Presence During Resuscitation: An Evaluation Of Attitudes And Beliefs, Alysia Adams
Family Presence During Resuscitation: An Evaluation Of Attitudes And Beliefs, Alysia Adams
DNP Projects
Background: Family presence during cardiopulmonary resuscitation has been provided for more than 20 years (Hanson & Strawser, 1992). The American Association of Critical Care Nurses, The Emergency Nurses Association, The American College of Emergency Physicians, The American Heart Association, and The American Academy of Pediatrics have all endorsed family presence during resuscitation (AACN, 2004; AHA, 2000; Dingeman, Mitchell, Meyer, & Curley, 2007; ENA, 1994; Lowry, 2012). Despite validation by distinguished professional organizations, the option of family presence remains inconsistent. Objectives: 1.) To explore the attitudes and barriers to family presence during resuscitation. 2.) To examine the relationship between pre, midpoint …
Giving Theatrical Life, Quentin Darrington
Giving Theatrical Life, Quentin Darrington
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
An experience, early in my life, at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center opened my eyes to the transformative power of Theatre - it would shape my ambitions for performance, inform the choices I made about my acting career, and impel my passions. That single moment had a profound and lasting effect on my soul, one that would ultimately point me to the purpose of "me;" but what exactly was it? What transaction occurred between the performers on stage, and myself, and others in attendance that evening? My life as an actor has been an incredible journey of growth. Over …
Interprofessional Collaboration For Children With Special Healthcare Needs: A Review Of Effective Education Integration, Catherine Giroux, Julie Corkett
Interprofessional Collaboration For Children With Special Healthcare Needs: A Review Of Effective Education Integration, Catherine Giroux, Julie Corkett
The Journal of Sociology & Social Welfare
With the innovation of technology, increased medical knowledge, and improved treatment techniques, the education of children with special healthcare needs is no longer restricted to hospitals. The current paper examines issues surrounding interprofessional collaboration (IPC) between educators, medical professionals, and allied health professionals in the school setting. Specifically, this paper disseminates the literature on interprofessional collaboration through the examination of the current state of IPC between the health and education sectors when accommodating students with complex medical needs. The aspects of IPC that are in need of improvement are identified along with recommendations for the improvement of IPC in the …

Conceptualizations Of Health And Health Communication By Clergy In Jefferson County, Alabama: A Qualitative Exploration, Anthony David Campbell
All ETDs from UAB
The purpose of this dissertation is to examine how clergy define health and how they communicate health messages to their congregations and communities. Clergy are influential figures who fulfill a variety of roles outside of their unique pastoral responsibilities, including serving as a source of health-related information and resources. Little is known about how clergy perceive the role of churches and their own role in health and health ministry. In-depth qualitative interviews were conducted with 32 African American and white clergy members from a variety of religious denominations in Jefferson County, Alabama between January 2015 and February 2016. Data were …
Facilitating A Change Of Mind About Father God Through Mentoring Of The Fatherless, Stephen Madosky
Facilitating A Change Of Mind About Father God Through Mentoring Of The Fatherless, Stephen Madosky
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The consensus of published research has proven beyond question that fatherlessness is a crisis in America. Textbooks and autobiographies have covered and reported the statistical effects of fatherlessness; nonetheless, there is far less literature dealing with the solution of fatherlessness and even less literature from Church scholars on how the Church may participate in its correction. This thesis presents an understanding of fatherlessness and proposes a resolution to act on behalf of fatherless children. The resolution will be comprised in preparing Church leaders to equip Church laity to understand and to minister to the fatherless in their affliction effectively.
Exploring The Transition Experience For The First Time Local Conference Presidents In The North American Division Of Seventh-Day Adventists: Narratives From Conference Presidents' Career Transitions, David E. Weigley
Dissertations
The position of the president of a conference in the North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists (a senior leadership role) has currently no policy stipulating leadership training prerequisites. Leaders transitioning into the president’s position typically are selected from a pool of successful pastors, departmental directors, and executive secretaries by a constituency meeting of delegates from local churches and conference institutions.
This qualitative study probed the transition of 12 first-time local conference presidents. The information was gathered by recording in-depth interviews. Eight themes surfaced from the exploration. Leaders experienced the transition as overwhelming, challenging their spirituality, involving new constellations of relationships, …

A Grounded Theory Of International Postgraduate Students In A British University: Making The Grade, Patrick Mcmahon
A Grounded Theory Of International Postgraduate Students In A British University: Making The Grade, Patrick Mcmahon
Other Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Business Theses
The aim of this study was to produce a grounded theory to describe the experiences of international students living in the UK and studying in a British university, and to understand and explain their behavioural responses to those experiences. Eighteen postgraduate international students were interviewed at a university in the south-west of England and the data was analysed using classic grounded theory methodology. The theory proposes that international students’ two biggest concerns are in regard to their English language skills and their detachment from home students. Students felt that their language skills were inadequate and they perceived themselves to be …

Scaffolding Peer Collaboration Through Values Education: Social And Reflective Practices From A Primary Classroom, Veronica E. Morcom
Australian Journal of Teacher Education
Peers create one of the most significant contexts for developing prosocial values. This paper reports on a yearlong study of thirty one year 4/5 students where antisocial values were deep-seated. The aim of this qualitative research was to examine how to reduce antisocial behaviour and promote peer collaboration. The notion of whole-class scaffolding was applied to use the collective knowledge of the peer group and develop mutual respect to reduce antisocial behaviour. Social and reflective practices included: the Daily Social Circle; Weekly Class Meetings; student reflection logs and interviews and parent surveys. Two themes generated from the findings examine how …

What Happens When Induction Goes Wrong: Case Studies From The Field, S Kearney
What Happens When Induction Goes Wrong: Case Studies From The Field, S Kearney
Education Papers and Journal Articles
Although induction programmes are widely held to alleviate the pressures beginning teachers face early in their careers, what happens when beginning teachers do not receive adequate induction? While the research advocates effective and ongoing induction to acculturate new teachers to their careers, there is little research on the effects of unsuccessful induction on the teachers who undertake such programmes. The author is a long-standing advocate for beginning teacher induction, it is important to note that simply implementing a programme does not guarantee success. While induction practices have become more common in recent years, there are still no mandated structures for …

‘Precarity And Precariousness – A Study Into The Impact Of Low-Pay, Low-Skill Employment Structures On The Experiences Of Workers In The South West Of Britain, Constantine Manolchev
Plymouth Business School Theses
This is a study into the impact of precarious work, defined as low-skill and low-pay jobs, on workers in the South West of Britain. In it, I investigate the experiences of three broad groups of precarious workers: migrants, care assistants (adult and nursery) and employees working for ‘Cleanwell’, an international provider of cleaning and catering services. My approach identifies and occupies the central ground between two opposing perspectives. Along with Guy Standing (2014; 2011), I acknowledge the existence of employment structures which can be objectively described as lacking the security of meaningful pay, tenure, access to training and progression. However, …
