Hardware Design For Cryptographic Protocols: An Algorithmic State Machine Design Approach, Gerardo Alejandro Zamora Garcia Jan 2016

Hardware Design For Cryptographic Protocols: An Algorithmic State Machine Design Approach, Gerardo Alejandro Zamora Garcia

Electrical and Computer Engineering

This thesis presents Algorithmic State Machine (ASM) designs that follow the One Cycle Demand Driven Convention (OCDDC) of three cryptographic protocols: Secure Distributed Multiplication (SDM), Pi Secure Distributed Multiplication (PiSDM, or secure distributed multiplication of a sequence), and Secure Comparison (SC), all of which achieve maximum throughput of 1/32, 1/(32(l - 1)), and 1/(32(l - 1)), respectively, for l-bit numbers. In addition, these protocols where implemented in VHDL and tested using ModelSim-Altera, verifying their correct functionality. Noting that the difference between a scheme and a protocol is that protocols involve message exchanging between two or more parties, to the author's …

An Active Power Supply Filter With Ultra Wide Bandwidth, Brian Booth Jan 2016

An Active Power Supply Filter With Ultra Wide Bandwidth, Brian Booth

Electrical and Computer Engineering

An active transformerless common mode filter is designed for use with switching mode power supplies with a switching frequency greater than 1MHz. The filter utilizes an amplifier in a voltage sensing current adjusting architecture to cancel out common mode noise generated by the switching power supply. The filter is analyzed using a transfer function, simulation, and measurements. Several possible feedback configurations are examined and benefits of different configurations are explained. The active filter is shown to have superior performance to only passive components at frequencies up to 20MHz. Spectral domain, time domain, and S21 measurements are given to show the …

Relationships Between Winter Social Dominance Hierarchies And Immune Function In The Black-Capped Chickadee, Emily Claire Stewart Jan 2016

Relationships Between Winter Social Dominance Hierarchies And Immune Function In The Black-Capped Chickadee, Emily Claire Stewart

Environmental and Conservation Sciences

social species, dominance rank has implications for an individual’s health and fitness. Dominant individuals often receive greater access to resources, protection from predators, higher quality territories, and increased reproductive success. Because of these advantages, dominance rank could affect physiological systems such as immunity. In this thesis, I discuss two studies that examine the relationship between social dominance and innate immune function using black-‐ capped chickadees (Poecile atricapillus). In the field, we found that in males, a high dominance score was correlated with low immune function in the fall. In captivity, we gave an immune challenge in the form of a …

Morphological Differences And Diversity Of Small Mammal Species, Jeffrey David Berens Jan 2016

Morphological Differences And Diversity Of Small Mammal Species, Jeffrey David Berens

Environmental and Conservation Sciences

Small mammals play important roles in ecosystems, but are often overlooked due to their small size and plentiful abundance. Two studies evaluated the morphological differences and diversity of small mammal species based on how they react to different environmental conditions. The first study analyzed the morphological differences of skulls between and within two species of Peromyscus species due to differences in shape, size, and geographic position. This study also determined if landmark-based geometric morphometrics could reliably discriminate between the two species. The second study analyzed small mammal diversity and abundance due to differences in microhabitat conditions in an endangered ecosystem: …

Christabel’S Complexity: Coleridge’S View Of Science, Nature And The Supernatural, Holly Ann Hagen Jan 2016

Christabel’S Complexity: Coleridge’S View Of Science, Nature And The Supernatural, Holly Ann Hagen

English

Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s unfinished poem, “Christabel,” follows the meeting and interaction of a young maiden and a deceptive demonesque woman. This paper explores the interactions between the natural, supernatural, and artificial elements found in the characters and setting of the poem. Coleridge weaves these elements together, oftentimes connecting them to each other in complex ways, instead of simply putting them in opposition to each other. This paper uses evidence from Coleridge’s personal notebooks, essays, and letters along with this analysis of the poem to reflect his cautious acceptance of the changes brought on by the scientific and industrial revolution in …

Identification Of Blood Biomarkers For Use In Point Of Care Diagnosis Tool For Alzheimer's Disease, E. Jammeh, P. Zhao, C. Carroll, S. Pearson, E. Ifeachor Jan 2016

Identification Of Blood Biomarkers For Use In Point Of Care Diagnosis Tool For Alzheimer's Disease, E. Jammeh, P. Zhao, C. Carroll, S. Pearson, E. Ifeachor

Peninsula Medical School

Early diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease (AD) is widely regarded as necessary to allow treatment to be started before irreversible damage to the brain occur and for patients to benefit from new therapies as they become available. Low-cost point-of-care (PoC) diagnostic tools that can be used to routinely diagnose AD in its early stage would facilitate this, but such tools require reliable and accurate biomarkers. However, traditional biomarkers for AD use invasive cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis and/or expensive neuroimaging techniques together with neuropsychological assessments. Blood-based PoC diagnostics tools may provide a more cost and time efficient way to assess AD to …
