Interfictional Identities: Transformation And Dissimulation In The Early Modern Period, Yael Nezer Lavender-Smith
Interfictional Identities: Transformation And Dissimulation In The Early Modern Period, Yael Nezer Lavender-Smith
Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects
Interfictional Identities develops the concept of interfictional transformations. In these transformations, characters in early modern texts adopt new identities rooted in previous literature. Specifically, Interfictional Identities explores how four early modern moments of interfictional transformation—of Nick Bottom in Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, of Pyrocles in Sidney’s New Arcadia, of Uriel da Costa in A Specimen of Human Life, and of Don Quixote in Cervantes’ novel—produce both literary and literal hybridity. One wonders why, in these works, writers and playwrights such as Shakespeare, Sidney, Da Costa, and Cervantes favor interfictional transformations over mere allusions to classical literature, …

The Papers Of Pamella Tucker Farley, Brooklyn College
Finding Aids
The collection Papers of Tucker Pamella Farley contains primarily materials related to her teaching and activism in Brooklyn College. It includes syllabi, readings, bibliographies, students’ tests and papers, and correspondence that span over two decades. These materials help document the history of the Women’s Studies Program at Brooklyn College, and reveal the incorporation and development of lectures in the program. In addition, there are professional papers related to conferences and professional courses she attended, as well as article submissions. This collection also features newspaper clippings and flyers, mostly related to women and literature, but also related to lesbianism and women …

Onomastic Wordplay On Joseph And Benjamin And Gezera Shawa In The Book Of Mormon, Matthew L. Bowen
Onomastic Wordplay On Joseph And Benjamin And Gezera Shawa In The Book Of Mormon, Matthew L. Bowen
Interpreter: A Journal of Latter-day Saint Faith and Scholarship
The Book of Mormon contains several quotations from the Hebrew Bible that have been juxtaposed on the basis of shared words or phrases, this for the purpose of interpreting the cited scriptural passages in light of one another. This exegetical technique — one that Jesus himself used — came to be known in later rabbinic times as Gezera Shawa (“equal statute”). In several additional instances, the use of Gezera Shawa converges with onomastic wordplay. Nephi uses a Gezera Shawa involving Isaiah 11:11 and Isaiah 29:14 twice on the basis of the yāsap verb‑forms yôsîp/yôsīp (2 Nephi 25:17 and quoting the …

Proposed Air Potato Leaf Beetle, Lilioceris Cheni, Research To Determine Biology, Control, And Host-Switching Potential On Air Potato, Dioscorea Bulbifera, In Southwest Florida, Chantay N. Lubbecke
Theses & ETDs
Dioscorea bulbifera L., commonly known as air potato, was introduced to Florida in 1905 by the USDA as a comprehensive plant introduction effort. By the 1940’s air potato was noted as an aggressive weed. It currently covers most of the peninsula of Florida and can be found as far north as the Pan Handle. It is considered to be cold intolerant and probably cannot survive at latitudes north of Florida. Air potato has been considered a category I invasive plant species since 1999. Control efforts include: a) Herbicides: Herbicides should not be used over large urban and suburban acreage because …

Perspectives About Pontius Pilate In The Ante-Nicene Fathers, Frank F. Judd Jr.
Perspectives About Pontius Pilate In The Ante-Nicene Fathers, Frank F. Judd Jr.
Studies in the Bible and Antiquity
Whenever a new movie depicts the events associated with the Gospel accounts of Jesus’s passion, it must decide how to portray the Roman governor Pontius Pilate. Was Pilate a pawn in the hands of the Jewish leaders? Was he acting independently according to his own imperium? What responsibility did the Roman governor bear in the trial and condemnation of Jesus? These questions are not new, for early Christians dealt with the same issues and came to a variety of conclusions.
Circumcising The Mouth Of Moses: The Idolatrous Status Of Yahweh's Mediator Among The Idols Of Ancient Mesopotamia, Amy L. Balogh
Circumcising The Mouth Of Moses: The Idolatrous Status Of Yahweh's Mediator Among The Idols Of Ancient Mesopotamia, Amy L. Balogh
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The thesis of this dissertation is that in the defining moment in which he is transformed from "uncircumcised of lips" to "god to Pharaoh" (Ex 6:28-7:1), Moses is best understood as Yahweh's idol, undergoing a status change akin to the induction ritual for ancient Mesopotamian idols, the Mīs Pȋ ("Washing/Purifying of the Mouth"). To make this point, I argue that Moses and idols be compared with respect to their status as mediator between divine and human realms. With their respective status changes, not only are idols and Moses transformed on an ontological level, but so are their relationships to their …
