The Impact Of Perceived Value, Satisfaction, Service Quality On Customer Loyalty In Women’S Fitness Clubs, Jon Lim, Bryan Romsa, Suzannah Armentrout

Health and Nutritional Sciences Faculty Publications

While the importance of customer loyalty has been recognized in the marketing literature, empirical research on the antecedents of customer loyalty and their relative importance to predict loyalty in the health and fitness club context has been lacking, especially for women-only clubs. Thus, this study investigated the impact of customer perceived value, satisfaction, and service quality on customer loyalty in women-only health and fitness clubs. The participants for this study consisted of 221 adults who were current members at women-only health and fitness clubs in a major metropolitan area in the Midwest. The results of the multiple regression analysis revealed …

Improved Parental Dietary Quality Is Associated With Children’S Dietary Intake Through The Home Environment, Karen R. Flórez, A. S. Richardson, M. B. Ghosh-Dastidar, R. Beckman, C. Huang, L. Wagner, T. Dubowitz Oct 2016

Improved Parental Dietary Quality Is Associated With Children’S Dietary Intake Through The Home Environment, Karen R. Flórez, A. S. Richardson, M. B. Ghosh-Dastidar, R. Beckman, C. Huang, L. Wagner, T. Dubowitz

Publications and Research

Background Improving access to supermarkets has been shown to improve some dietary outcomes, yet there is little evidence for such effects on children. Relatedly, there is a dearth of research assessing the impact of a structural change (i.e. supermarket in a former food desert) on the home environment and its relationship with children’s diet.

Objective Assess the relative impact of the home environment on children’s diet after the introduction of a new supermarket in a food desert.

Methods Among a randomly selected cohort of households living in a food desert, parental diet was assessed before and after the opening of …

Managing Drought Risk In A Changing Climate, Donald A. Wilhite Oct 2016

Managing Drought Risk In A Changing Climate, Donald A. Wilhite

National Drought Mitigation Center: Faculty Publications

There is an increasing concern worldwide regarding the ineffectiveness of current drought management practices that are based largely on crisis management. These practices are reactive and, therefore, only treat the symptoms (impacts) of drought rather than the underlying causes of the vulnerabilities associated with impacts. More effective drought management requires a shift in the paradigm from drought response to a drought risk management approach.

Involvement In The Juvenile Justice System For African American Adolescents: Examining Associations With Behavioral Health Problems, Dexter R. Voisin

Faculty Scholarship

While researchers have found that African American youth experience higher levels of juvenile justice involvement at every system level (arrest, sentencing, and incarceration) relative to their other ethnic counterparts, few studies have explored how juvenile justice involvement and number of contacts might be correlated with this broad range of problems. A convenience sample of 638 African American adolescents living in predominantly low-income, urban communities participated in a survey related to juvenile justice involvement. Major findings using logistic regression models indicated that adolescents who reported juvenile justice system involvement versus no involvement were 2.3 times as likely to report mental health …

Vitamin D Levels In Malnourished Children Under 5 Years In A Tertiary Care Center At Muhimbili National Hospital, Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania—A Cross-Sectional Study, Nahida Z. Walli, Emmanuel K. Munubhi, Said Aboud, Karim P. Manji

Paediatrics and Child Health, East Africa

Objective: To evaluate vitamin D levels/deficiency among malnourished children < 5 years admitted at a tertiary care center, the Muhimbili National Hospital, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Children with malnutrition may have co-existing vitamin D deficiency (VDD), which may be severe.

Methods: Serum vitamin D and alkaline phosphatase were evaluated, and X-ray of the wrist was carried out on 134 children.

Results: VDD was found in 41 of 134 children (30.6%). The mean vitamin D level was 74.8 nmol/l. The mean alkaline phosphatase level was 176.6 U/l. Sixty-four (48%) children were found to have severe stunting, of whom 20 (31.2%) were vitamin D deficient. Marasmic children had higher odds of VDD compared with other forms of malnutrition.

Conclusion: The high prevalence of VDD in malnourished children underlines the need for active surveillance …

Student Enters Nursing Field To Help And Serve Others, Office Of University Communications

Gardner-Webb NewsCenter Archive

When Tara Roberts Hayes (’16) of Forest City, N.C., was a teenager, her best friend was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune condition. She earned the nickname of “Mother Hen,” because of the hours she spent taking care of her friend. “My curiosity of the medical field and desire to help and serve others pointed me in the direction of nursing, but this situation solidified the call I had felt for so long,” Hayes reflected.

Inefficient Inequality, Shi-Ling Hsu Oct 2016

Inefficient Inequality, Shi-Ling Hsu

Indiana Journal of Law and Social Equality

For the past several decades, much American lawmaking has been animated by a concern for economic efficiency. At the same time, broad concerns over wealth and income inequality have roiled American politics, and still loom over lawmakers. It can be reasonably argued that a tension exists between efficiency and equality, but that argument has had too much purchase over the past few decades of lawmaking. What has been overlooked is that inequality itself can be allocatively inefficient when it gives rise to collectively inefficient behavior. Worse still, some lawmaking only masquerades as being efficiency-promoting; upon closer inspection, some of this …

Supporting Anti-Bullying In Church Environments- A Program Evaluation Study, Trisha Wetzelberger Oct 2016

Supporting Anti-Bullying In Church Environments- A Program Evaluation Study, Trisha Wetzelberger

CUP Ed.D. Dissertations

Existing literature demonstrates the need for anti-bullying programs in the traditional school setting, however, only a limited number of studies have included the need or benefits to having anti-bullying programs in the church community. The theories of Kohlberg, Erikson, and Fowler served as the basis for building an understanding of the development of bullying behaviors among children. Dan Olweus, the man known as the pioneer of bullying prevention research, addressed the importance of including the total community in a successful bullying prevention program. He was referring to including everyone associated with children in the school community: teachers, parents, administration, and …

Recommendations To Asdenic For A Potential Water Social Enterprise, David Hong, Elia Kazemi, Aidan O'Neill

Miller Center Fellowship

Opportunity

People living in rural and semi-urban communities in Northern Nicaragua drink contaminated water on a daily basis and struggle with the effects on their health. ASDENIC is in a unique position to create a social enterprise within its organization to provide sustainable clean water solutions to the communities it already serves, and beyond. By distributing and/or manufacturing affordable, effective household water filters, this enterprise could fill an important need through a financially self-sustaining model.

Research Activities

We conducted 70 semi-structured interviews with potential beneficiaries in six communities: Daraili, Bramadero, Buena Vista, El Pegador, Condega, and Las Sabanas. Additionally, we …

To “provide” health benefits under the Minimum Wage Amendment, an employer need only offer to employees (rather than enroll them in) a qualifying health benefit plan. Tips are not included in an employee’s gross taxable income for calculating maximum health benefit plan premiums.
