Predicting Purpose: An Examination Of Early Predictors Of Progression And Career Choice Among First-Year Nursing Students, Iris Hinderliter
Predicting Purpose: An Examination Of Early Predictors Of Progression And Career Choice Among First-Year Nursing Students, Iris Hinderliter
Dissertations
The importance of socializing upper level nursing students into the nursing profession is well established in the literature, but less is known about the early predictors of progression and career choice among first-year nursing students using a career development framework. Understanding early predictors of progression, particularly for first generation and underrepresented minority college students, have important implications for diversifying the baccalaureate-prepared nursing pipeline, as well as for developing future career and educational interventions for program completion and student retention. This study utilized a cross-sectional, correlational design to examine predictive factors of progression and career choice among freshmen nursing students. While …
How Will We Heal?, William H. Lane
How Will We Heal?, William H. Lane
English Faculty Publications
How will we ever heal from our recent election? Isn't that what many Americans are asking at this point in time? Deadlines being what they have to be in order to keep a lively small town paper on track. I pose these questions while writing on Halloween Eve--appropriately enough given the current state of our politics--without knowing the results of the election. I don't know who won what exactly, but I do know our country lost, having been seriously damaged over the last year and a half by a presidential campaign without precedent in American history, and I do know …

The Development And Psychometric Testing Of The Health Literacy Knowledge, Application, And Confidence Scale (Hlkacs), Marguerite Catherine Debello
Master's Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
Health literacy continues to be a pervasive issue faced by adults today within the healthcare environment. One in four adults cannot make informed decisions regarding their own care and do not understand basic healthcare information. Nursing provides the majority of healthcare teaching, yet little is known about the current knowledge level of such providers about health literacy knowledge and strategies. The purpose of this study was to determine the reliability and validity of the Health Literacy Knowledge, Application, and Confidence scale (HLKACS) with nursing students enrolled in baccalaureate and associate degree nursing programs in the state of Michigan. The study …

Fhfa Proposed Collection For National Survey Of Mortgage Originations, David J. Reiss
Fhfa Proposed Collection For National Survey Of Mortgage Originations, David J. Reiss
Cornell Law Faculty Working Papers
The Federal Housing Finance Agency has issued a request for comments on the National Survey of Mortgage Originations (NSMO). I write to support this proposed collection, but also to raise some concerns about its efficacy.
The NSMO is very important to the health of the mortgage market. We need only look at the Subprime Boom of the late 1990s and early 2000s to see why this is true: subprime mortgages went from “making up a tiny portion of new mortgage originations in the early 1990s” to “40 percent of newly originated securitized mortgages in 2006.” During the Boom, subprime lenders …
Virtual Reality Serious Games For Individuals With Autism Spectrum Disorder: Design Considerations, Lal Bozgeyikli
Virtual Reality Serious Games For Individuals With Autism Spectrum Disorder: Design Considerations, Lal Bozgeyikli
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Virtual reality has been a popular training tool for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in recent years. Although virtual reality was proven to be a promising tool for individuals with ASD by many previous studies, effects of virtual reality properties on user experience is still an unexplored area. More comparison studies and reliable data are needed to identify the benefits of different VR methods and properties, and leverage the future VR systems. In this dissertation, we explored effects of virtual reality properties on user experience of high functioning individuals with ASD with four different serious game experiments. The first …

Child Care Costs Exceed 10 Percent Of Family Income For One In Four Families, Marybeth J. Mattingly, Andrew P. Schaefer, Jess Carson
Carsey Publications
In this brief, authors Marybeth Mattingly, Andrew Schaefer, and Jessica Carson analyze families’ child care expenses and identify, among families with young children who pay for child care, the share that are “cost burdened,” defined in this context as spending more than 10 percent of their gross income on child care. Using data from the 2012–2016 Current Population Survey, they present their findings by number of children; age of youngest child; parental characteristics; family income measures; and U.S. region, metropolitan status, and state. They report that about one in four families with young children who have child care costs are …

The Revolt Against Elitism, Ishrat Husain Dr.
The Revolt Against Elitism, Ishrat Husain Dr.
Faculty Research - Newspaper and Magazine Articles
IN 1999, in my book The Economy of an Elitist State, I attempted to substantiate the argument that the Pakistani economy had been captured by a narrow elite consisting of the top one to two per cent of the population. Markets allocate resources efficiently, but only those that possess assets benefit from this efficiency. The state, therefore, has to intervene by taxing the rich and spending on those who are bypassed by economic efficiency and thus promote equitable distribution of national income. In Pakistan’s case, the markets were rigged by the elites while the state was politically controlled by the …

Development Of A Dss And Online Tools To Support Sleep Disorder Consultations Using Design Science., Jacqueline Blake, Don Kerr, John Gammack
All Works
Medical decision making takes place in a complex and dynamic environment, involving various individual and organisational stakeholders. In such contexts supportive information systems are required to be designed for practical efficacy, emphasising transparency, usability, and usefulness to their primary users. At the same time, they need to demonstrate improved efficiency and diagnostic accuracy. In addition, they also need to provide effective communication of relevant information. This paper describes the use of design science to develop and evaluate a DSS incorporated into online tools to support sleep physician’s diagnosis of sleep disorders. The design science approach offers guidance for developing this …

Characterization And Analysis Of Pcs1 Gene From Wheat, Haris Ahmed Khan, Ayaz Ahmad, Sehar Nawaz
Journal of Bioresource Management
Wheat (Triticum aestivum) is an important cereal crop grown worldwide on large areas. Yields of wheat are decreasing worldwide due to heavy metal contamination. A number of genes have been characterized as those that confer tolerance to cadmium stress. PCS1 is one of them. Phytochelatins have a key role in the detoxification of heavy metals in plants. However, the mechanism behind the detoxification remains unknown and wheat genes related to detoxification have not yet been identified. Here we report the isolation of cDNA encoding of phytochelatin synthase (PCS) from wheat (var. Galaxy 2013). The AtPCS1 cDNA sequence contained …
