The Evolution Of The Golden Temple Of Amritsar Into A Major Sikh Pilgrimage Center, Jutla, Rajinder S.
The Evolution Of The Golden Temple Of Amritsar Into A Major Sikh Pilgrimage Center, Jutla, Rajinder S.
College of Natural and Applied Sciences
Today the Sikh diaspora encompasses much of the world, having spread from India and Southeast Asia to the Pacific Rim, the Middle East, East Africa, Europe, and the Americas. Sikhism is a monotheistic world religion founded in the 15th century by Guru Nanak. His successors continued his teachings and provided a distinct shape to the Sikh community with a written language, a religious scripture and many institutions. The paper examines the significance of sacred place and the role of pilgrimage according to Sikh scripture. It also explores Sikh attitudes and practices towards pilgrimage through a questionnaire based survey. Finally, the …

The Impediments Of Corruption On The Efficiency Of Healthcare Service Delivery In Nigeria, Daniel O. Tormusa, Augustine Mogom Idom
Journal of Health Ethics
There is a growing interest among health policymakers, planners and donors on the extent to which corruption affects access to health care and outcomes, and possible ways of eliminating it in the health sector. This paper therefore focuses on reviewing various perspectives on the nature, types dimension and the susceptibility of the health sector to corruption. It demonstrates the extent to which corruption negatively effects the health and welfare of citizens at the level of individuals and households. It presents a description identifying how opportunities and pressures influence corruption in the health sector. The paper also analyses the implications for …
Setting God's 'Welcome Table': Images Of The Church For An Inclusive Ecclesiology, Katherine V. Stats
Setting God's 'Welcome Table': Images Of The Church For An Inclusive Ecclesiology, Katherine V. Stats
Seattle Pacific Seminary Theses
The ways in which the Church perceives and envisions its ecclesiology inevitably form its ecclesial expressions, which in turn convey its interpretation of the gospel to a watching world. Therefore, in pursuit of an interpretation of and a metaphor for the Church that emphasizes and embodies the theological tenet of divine inclusivity, this paper defends the argument that "a guiding ecclesiological image embodies an ecclesiological vision and gives rise to particular streams of congregational praxis." The author develops and supports this thesis by examining the ecclesial imagery and related ecclesiological interpretations utilized by two twentieth-century theologians in their systematic treatments …

Columbus Community Geography Center
With the soft opening of Pasaquan, Marion County’s visionary art environment, in summer 2016, and its grand opening by Columbus State University in fall 2016, the Marion County Chamber of Commerce requested that the Columbus Community Geography Center partner to develop a heritage tour map of the county for welcome centers across the state. This small rural county of 8,700 residences, 60% white, 30% black and 7.5% Hispanic. One fifth of the population live below the poverty level. It recently lost several hundred jobs with the closure of the local chicken processing plant. Plans to launch a tourism program is …

The Relationship Between Self-Esteem, Academic Success, And Retention In Students Of Color At Cornell College, Schvalla Raymeil Rivera
The Relationship Between Self-Esteem, Academic Success, And Retention In Students Of Color At Cornell College, Schvalla Raymeil Rivera
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Although some research has been conducted on the subject of academic success and retention in students of color, attention has not been paid to students of color who attend predominately White private postsecondary liberal arts institutions. Many students of color face a major dilemma when entering the world of higher Education; first, they must prove to their family, peers, and community that they have not sold out†their Black values while in the pursuit of mainstream or White†values (Neville, Heppner, & Wang, 1997). Second, they must confront feelings of inadequacy and isolation that very often come along with their …

Ethical Challenges In Student Global Health Research Projects, Katherine Rebecca Standish
Ethical Challenges In Student Global Health Research Projects, Katherine Rebecca Standish
Yale Medicine Thesis Digital Library
U.S. students are participating in global health electives and research in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) in increasing numbers, yet the significant ethical challenges they face have not been well documented. We conducted a mixed methods study of graduate, health professional and undergraduate students at a research-focused university about their experiences conducting global health research activities, focusing on ethical challenges and support for addressing those challenges. An online, structured questionnaire was completed by 123 participants, and in-depth, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 17 participants and analyzed using the constant comparison method. Among questionnaire respondents, 31% reported a significant or moderate …

Museums, Disasters, And Resilience: The Presbytère's Living With Hurricanes—Katrina And Beyond Exhibit, Molly Hagan
Museums, Disasters, And Resilience: The Presbytère's Living With Hurricanes—Katrina And Beyond Exhibit, Molly Hagan
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This research project focuses on the entanglement of cultural heritage, museums, disasters, and resilience. Using The Presbytère museum's exhibit, Living with Hurricanes: Katrina and Beyond as a case study, I critically examined who is represented in the exhibit and how, what roles museum professionals and New Orleans community members held in the exhibit construction, and visitors' insight on the exhibit content. I argue that the promotion of New Orleans' culture and recovery post-Katrina throughout the exhibit has promoted the overall image of New Orleans and her residents as resilient. Framed by a variety of academic fields, this research contributes to …

Bridges: A Journal of Student Research
Issue 10 is an issue of firsts. It's our first issue as editors and, more importantly, it represents the first iteration of our vision to innovate Bridges to better reflect its dynamic content. To this end, one of our main initiatives is to showcase more student talent at all levels of production. In addition to authoring the content, Coastal students are also responsible for the layout, design, and photography you see here. They also did much of the behind-the-scenes work—including public relations communications, copyediting, and proofing—that made this issue possible. In Fall 2016, Bridges will benefit from even more student …
