Taxonomic Studies On Some Agaricoid And Boletoid Fungi Of Turkey, Ertuğrul Sesli̇, Marco Contu, Jordi Vila, Pierre-Arthur Moreau, Eliseo Battistin

Four alnicolous (Alnicola citrinella, A. suavis, Cortinarius alnetorum, and Gyrodon lividus), 2 cortinarioid (Cortinarius alnetorum and C. scutulatus), 3 entolomatoid (Entoloma conferendum, E. pallescens, and E. sordidulum), 1 hebelomatoid (Hebeloma aff. aestivale), and 2 clitocyboid (Clitocybe applanata and C. elegantula) fungi were collected, studied, illustrated, and first reported for the Turkish mycota from Trabzon. Cortinarius alnetorum was evaluated as both an alnicolous and cortinarioid species. Field trips were made in 2012 and 2013, and the microscopical studies were performed in January and February 2014. Identification of the collections was made according to morphological investigations and field characteristics.

Contributions To The Macrofungal Diversity Of Atatürk Dam Lake Basin, Abdullah Kaya

This study was carried out on macrofungi samples collected from Atatürk Dam Lake basin, especially from the southern coasts, within the boundaries of Şanlıurfa province between 2003 and 2013. A total of 122 taxa belonging to 38 families were identified. Six of them are new for the mycobiota of Turkey. Sowerbyella rhenana (Fuckel) J. Moravec is new at the genus level, while Peziza pseudoviolacea Donadini, Peziza ripensis E.C. Hansen, Cheilymenia theleboloides (Alb. & Schwein.) Boud., Galeropsis desertorum Velen. & Dvorak, and Tulostoma melanocyclum Bres. are new at species level.

In this paper, 47 taxa (15 Chroococcales, 20 Oscillatoriales, and 12 Nostocales) of Cyanobacteria that were collected along the coasts of Northern Cyprus (Eastern Mediterranean Sea) are reported. Aphanocapsa litoralis (Hansgirg) Komárek & Anagnostidis, Coelosphaerium minutissimum Lemmermann, Chroococcus cf. turicensis (Nägeli) Hansgirg, Chroococcus varius A.Braun, Spirulina tenerrima Kützing ex Gomont, Calothrix fuscoviolacea P.L.Crouan & H.M.Crouan ex Bornet & Flahault, Rivularia nitida C.Agardh ex Bornet & Flahault, and Scytonematopsis pilosa (Harvey ex Bornet & Flahault) I.Umezaki & M.Watanabe are recorded for the first time from the Mediterranean Sea, and 35 taxa are also recorded for the first time from Northern Cyprus. …

DNA-based markers have the potential to improve the efficiency and precision of breeding programs based on marker-assisted selection. In the present study we evaluated the predictive abilities of previously reported PCR-based simple sequence repeat and functional markers related to fragrance in a set of 24 rice genotypes, including traditional basmatis, evolved basmatis, and aromatic indigenous landraces. High-resolution melting analysis with 3 markers was also performed to detect the presence of SNPs and length polymorphism in monomorphic amplicons. Utilization of diverse germplasm is required to enhance the genetic variability of cultivars. Opportunity to generate favorable gene combinations can be provided by genetically diverse lines; thus, the probability of creating unique cultivars increases. Genetic diversity analysis of chickpea can give important indications for understanding species relationships and may help in developing and planning breeding programs. North African steppes are subjected to extreme degradation resulting in the reduction of their surface, genetic erosion of resources, and decrease in biodiversity. Stipa tenacissima steppes, which constitute one of the most representative vegetation types in the driest areas of the Mediterranean basin, are continuously degrading. With the aim of contributing to a better knowledge of the floristic composition and diagnosing the state of degradation of these steppes, we conducted a phytoecological analysis of 10 S. tenacissima sites in Tunisia. The present study, conducted in 2011 and 2012, deals with the response of Calligonum polygonoides and Artemisia judaica to the drought conditions in Wadi El-Assiuty and its tributary Wadi Habib in the middle part of the Eastern Desert of Egypt. Soil and plant samples were collected from 50 stands in the wet (winter) and dry (summer) seasons. In the selected plants chlorophyll (Chl a and b) contents as well as the Chl stability index tended to increase significantly during the summer season. A new species of Teucrium L., Teucrium aladagense Vural & H.Duman, is described from Aladağ mountain, located in Adana, Kayseri, and Niğde provinces in Turkey. The species belongs to Teucrium L. sect. Stachyobotrys Benth. A description, distribution map, habitat, information on trichome morphology, and the threatened category of the species are provided. The differences between the new species and its allies T. lamiifolium d'Urv s.l. and T. hircanicum L. are discussed, and an identification key is provided for the identification of similar taxa.

A New Species Of Sisymbrium (Brassicaceae) From Turkey: Morphological And Molecular Evidence, Bi̇rol Mutlu, Şükrü Karakuş

Sisymbrium malatyanum Mutlu & Karakuş is identified as a new species from Malatya Province, East Anatolia, Turkey. Morphological and molecular (entire ITS region) studies proved that this species especially resembles Sisymbrium brassiciforme, S. heteromallum, S. altissimum, S. damascenum, and S. austriacum subsp. contortum. New species and related taxa are discussed in terms of morphological and molecular differences. Epicuticular wax on the fruit surface of the new species was determined. SEM images (hairs on leaf, stem, fruit, stylus, and epicuticular wax crystalloids) and field photographs (habitat, flowering and fruiting shape of habitus, and fruit) are presented.

Three new species of Aporomyces (Laboulbeniomycetes) parasitic on beetles from Ecuador are described. These are A. aequatorialis, parasitic on Byrrhinus near B. plenus (Limnichidae); A. benjaminii, parasitic on Plagiogramma sp. (Histeridae); and A. maximus, parasitic on Byrrhinus cf. maculatus. A key to all the species in the genus Aporomyces is given.

Based on study of the lectotype of Cephaloceraton gymnocarpum Gennari, megaspore ornamentation, and chromosome number analysis of specimens from different Mediterranean areas, it is shown here that Isoetes gymnocarpa (Gennari) A.Braun is a species endemic to Sardinia, Central Italy, Corsica, and Baleares, different from the Mediterranean I. histrix Bory and from the mainly CE Mediterranean I. sicula Tod. (= I. subinermis (Gennari) Cesca & Peruzzi).

In the present study, chromosome morphology of 32 Scorzonera L. Taxa, including 19 species endemic to Turkey, was analyzed. The plant materials were collected from different natural populations of Turkey between 2005 and 2011. The classification of chromosomes, the length of the long and short arm, haploid chromosome length, arm ratio, and relative chromosomal length were measured by software image analyses. The basic chromosome numbers were determined as x = 6 and x = 7. Two types of ploidy levels were observed as diploidy and tetraploidy. The taxa of the genus Euphorbia L. Have seeds that mature in schizocarp fruits, called cocci, with three or more cells, each of which explosively splits open into separate parts at maturity. The Euphorbia seeds have taxonomically useful characters. We studied 13 taxa of the genus Euphorbia distributed in Turkey-in-Europe, with a focus on the seed characters; for morphological observations we used a stereomicroscope, and for surface microstructure we used a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The evolution and taxonomy of the core members of subtribe Vellinae (Brassicaceae), comprising Vella aspera, V. Bourgeana, and V. Pseudocytisus, is still poorly known. We reconstructed the evolutionary relationships among these taxa and other Vellinae and close Brassicaceae using nuclear ITS and plastid trnTF phylogenies, and analyzed the phenotypic traits that differentiate the infraspecific ranks of V. Pseudocytisus. Our phylogenetic analyses show: i) an early divergence of Succowia within the Brassiceae-Sisymbrieae sensu lato clade; ii) the nested positions of Vella bourgeana (syn. A survey of both ectomycorrhizal (ECM) root tips and fruiting bodies of ECM fungi was carried out during a four-year period (2009-2012) in two similar forest stands in central Italy, previously investigated in detail being habitats of the Italian white truffle Tuber magnatum Pico. This research is one of the few conducted in mixed forest stands and, for the first time, it took into account the cryptic fungi (corticiaceous, hypogeous, and sclerotia). So far, a full, accessible list of algae from the water bodies of the South-Tajik Depression has not been available. We compiled an algal species list of 1190 taxa that were revealed by us or listed in references in the South-Tajik Depression high-mountain rivers Kafirnigan, Vakhsh, Kyzylsu, Yakhsu, and Tairsu and in the lakes of its basin. Physicochemical parameters and phytoplankton seasonal variation were investigated between August 2010 and July 2011 in Dodurga Reservoir. A total of 35 phytoplankton taxa were identified. Phytoplankton samples collected from surface samples in late winter, spring, and early and mid-summer were found to be influenced by nitrate, dissolved oxygen, pH, temperature, and phosphate. However, early winter and autumn assemblages of the samples were influenced by total hardness, silica, water transparency, conductivity, organic matter, and oxidation reduction potential. Diatom community structure and morphotype classification were studied and periphyton biomass, course particulate organic matter (CPOM), hydrogeomorphological parameters, and nutrient concentrations were measured at 4 stations downstream of the Cecita dam (Mucone River) and at 3 control sites located on different tributaries of the Mucone River in May, August, and November 2005. The lowest values of current velocities and the highest amounts of sand deposition and CPOM accumulation were detected at the stations closest to the dam. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of nutritional formulations, viz. Bristol's medium (BM), water extract of dairy waste (DW), commercial fertilizers mix (FM), and carbon sources such as NaHCO3, CaCO3, and wheat flour hydrolysate on the biomass productivity and oil content of the algal species Sirogonium sticticum, Temnogyra reflexa, Uronema elongatum, and Chroococcus turgidus. Among the nutritional formulations tested, BM showed the highest average effect, followed by DW, on the biomass and oil contents of the species. Although Opuntia species are of high agronomic value in Korea, the taxonomic position of Korean Opuntia species has never been investigated. The taxonomic position of Korean Opuntia spp. Within the tribe Opuntieae was examined based on DNA sequence analysis of matK, trnL-F, atpB-rbcl, and ITS regions. The total amplified sequence length was 2977 bp; only 18 parsimonious informative sites were present, even though they belonged to different species. This study comprises an investigation into the floral function in relation to the floral structure of Periploca aphylla and P. Angustifolia, using light and scanning electron microscopy. Both species display the following floral structures: style-head bearing pollen translators, shelf-like nectaries, staminal feet, nectar-collecting troughs, trisegmented corolline corona lobes and corolla lobes, and anthers and nectaries covered by unicellular hairs. Lateral segments of adjacent corona lobes are fused with half of the adaxial base of the adjacent corolla lobes, creating openings through which pollinators can reach the nectar-collecting troughs in the corolla base. Transferability of barley retrotransposon primers was investigated to analyze population structure in St. John's wort (Hypericum perforatum L.) based on inter-retrotransposon amplified polymorphism (IRAP). Seven long terminal repeat (LTR) retrotransposon primers derived from the barley genome were used to detect genetic polymorphism in eight Iranian populations and three cultivars (Helos, New Stem, and Topaz) of H. Perforatum based on IRAP analysis. Nine possible LTR primers/primer combinations successfully amplified fragments from the H. Perforatum genome. Genetic Diversity And Relationships Within And Among Onobrychis Species Using Molecular Markers, Mohammad Zarrabian, Mohammad Mahdi Majidi

Little is known about the taxonomic relationships of the genus Onobrychis (Fabaceae). To study inter- and intraspecific variations and the relationships among the species, 102 accessions (33 species) of the genus Onobrychis were evaluated using 22 inter-simple sequence repeat (ISSR) markers. Almost all the species belonging to the section Onobrychis clustered together. A similar pattern was found with the species belonging to the section Hymenobrychis, while those of the section Lophobrychis did not cluster together. The results indicate that the section Lophobrychis has a comparatively derived organization that can be attributed to the differences in their taxonomic delimitation. Geographical pattern …

Taxonomic Revision Of Astragalus L. Section Onobrychoidei Dc. (Fabaceae) In Turkey, Murat Eki̇ci̇, Hasan Akan, Zeki̇ Aytaç

This study concerned the taxonomic revision of Astragalus L. Section Onobrychoidei DC in Turkey. The morphological, cytological, and phenological characteristics of 29 species in this section are discussed. Moreover, 11 names at specific levels are reduced to synonymy: Astragalus eskishehiricus, A. Hololeucoides, A. Sakaryaensis, A. Phanothrix, A. Canescens, A. Robertianus, A. Rausianus, A. Tunceliensis, A. Pseudovegetus, A. Bingoellensis, and A. Bithynicus. The conservation statuses based on the IUCN Red List categories are mentioned for endemic taxa.
