Urbanization can lead to increased sedimentation, erosion, pollution, and runoff into streams. The United States Environmental Protection Agency’s (USEPA) Rapid Bioassessment Protocols (RBPs) are sets of guidelines that can be used to assess a habitat’s sedimentology, hydrology, vegetation, and geomorphology to determine impairment. An unnamed tributary of Stone Dam Creek on the University of Central Arkansas (UCA) campus in Conway, Arkansas runs partially underground and through the urbanized UCA campus watershed. The stream was assessed using the USEPA’s RBPs to determine impairment of the stream, and received a RBP score of 71.2 out of 200 compared to 153.5 in a …

Composting can contribute to the zero waste initiative on the University of Arkansas (UA) campus. In-vessel systems like Earth Tubs™ are purported to provide better control of temperature and moisture during the composting process. Turning materials helps facilitate microbial activity and thermophilic composting. The goal of this research was to determine if turning frequency affects processing or final quality of compost made with pre- and post-consumer food waste feedstock and a wood chip bulking agent. In recent years, a radical method of assessing students has been gaining popularity. An increasing number of school systems in Iowa and nationwide are implementing standards-referenced grading (Stegmeir, 2014). In standards-referenced grading, grades are determined only by academic factors. This makes grades more accurate, fair, and useful for students and parents. While standards-referenced grading can offer many benefits, stakeholders can often resist making the change (Stegmeir, 2014). The goal of this project is to provide an example of exemplary physics instruction that is assessed using standards-referenced grading in a 9th grade conceptual physics classroom.

The significance of this study is to newly examine a factor of sprint performance. Previous studies have examined the limiting factor of vertical force of contact during a sprint. Studies have yet to look at the horizontal velocity of the foot with respect to the center of mass prior to contact in a sprint. The project that I focused on for my Creative Component is the creation of Understanding by Design (UbD) unit lesson plans that address the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) in the topic of Evolution. When the final framework was released of the NGSS in 2011, the need for teachers to revisit and align their curriculum became a necessary step to ensure appropriate content was taught. To become a certified lifeguard, generally there are three test. These eligibility tests required for lifeguarding enrollment into lifeguarding courses include: (a) a swimming assessment where the participant must continuously swim a certain distance, (b) a timed treading water, and (c) an object retrieval from a specified depth of the pool. Delaware and the federal courts have been on a collision course since 2014 when the Delaware Supreme Court upheld the facial validity of a corporate bylaw that shifted the corporation’s (and all defendants’) legal expenses to a losing plaintiff. That 2014 decision, ATP Tour, Inc. v. Deutscher Tennis Bund, 91 A. 3d 554 (Del. 2014), quickly led a number of public corporations to adopt similar “loser pays” bylaws and charter provisions, all of which are one-sided provisions (that is, only the plaintiff may be held liable) and most shift the fees against the plaintiff even if it wins (unless …

Two decisions of the United States Supreme Court announced March 9, unanimous in reversing what had been surprising and potentially disruptive administrative law decisions by the United States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, could themselves portend rather striking changes in American administrative law. This essay considers Department of Transportation v. Literacy coaches must understand the sometimes subtle nuances in the language used to guide teachers in order to build their instructional capacity and ultimately increase student achievement. This article examines the coaching stances of "coaching, teaching and telling" that move along a continuum of support provided through a coaching framework for a literacy coach and her elementary teachers. If both the Mexican Volcanic Belt (MVB) and the Central American Volcanic Arc (CAVA) have been related to the subduction of the Cocos plate beneath the North American and Caribbean plates, respectively, their magmas, and especially the less evolved basic varieties, should show considerable similarities. The conventional multielement normalized diagrams indicate more complex petrogenetic processes for the MVB than the CAVA. Forty-five statistically coherent tectonomagmatic discrimination diagrams were used to infer the tectonic setting of the controversial geological subprovince of the eastern part of the MVB (E-MVB). Basic rocks from the E-MVB indicated a continental rift setting, whereas the intermediate …
