Are Customers Ready For Tablet-Based Menus? An Analysis Of The Innovation Characteristics That Influence The Intentions To Adopt Tablet-Based Menus, Nataly Suarez
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Since the release of the new iPad in 2010, few studies have explored the idea of tablet- based menus in restaurants. Since this is a new topic in the hospitality industry, there has not been literature that explores how personal traits influence the adoption intention of tablet-based menus. This study aims to explain the impact of innovation characteristics and individual differences on customer intentions to adopt tablet-based menus in restaurants of different service levels. With a random sample of 430 participants collected via Amazon’s Mechanical Turk, a regression analysis and an ANOVA test were performed. The results confirmed that only …

Spatio-Temporal Distribution Of Stored-Product Insects With Emphasis On Red Flour Beetles (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) In Rice Mills And On-Farm Storage Facilities, Martine Patiance Bowombe Toko
Student Theses and Dissertations
Many stored-product insects were found associated in rice commercial mills and on-farm facilities. To better understand the seasonal and temporal distributions of stored-product insect at these facilities, I conducted two studies. A study over a three-year period (2012-2014) was conducted to examine red flour beetle (Tribolium castaneum) distributions at four rice mills. Beetles were captured using baited Dome traps placed inside and outside of mills. The second study was conducted over a two-year period (2013-1014) to estimate the abundance of red flour beetles and four other stored-product insects [cigarette beetle (Lasioderma serricorne), warehouse beetle (Trogoderma variabile), lesser grain borer (Rhyzopertha …

An Attitudinal Analysis Of Preventive Health Care Information Users: With Insights From Social Media, Joseph D. Cangelosi, David Kim, Edward Ranelli
Atlantic Marketing Journal
As the U.S. health care system continues to restructure itself, an increased emphasis on preventive health care will be a very important component. It is vital that preventive health care information (PHCI) be readily accessible and applied. This research explores the impact of social media as a source for accessing PHCI. Specifically, it examines how individuals rate active vs. passive internet delivery systems (IDS) to gather PHCI. Results of the study indicated that online health forums (active IDS) were the most popular source of PHCI, whereas Facebook and Twitter were most unpopular. On the whole, accessing PHCI via active IDS …
Workforce Fitness: Description, Contextual Issues, And Implications For Public Health, Nicolaas P. Pronk
Workforce Fitness: Description, Contextual Issues, And Implications For Public Health, Nicolaas P. Pronk
Frontiers in Public Health Services and Systems Research
Workforce fitness matters for the prevention of premature death, chronic diseases, productivity loss, excess medical care costs, loss of income or family earnings, and other social and economic concerns. Yet fitness levels appear to be relatively low and declining. Over the past half century obesity has doubled, physical activity levels are below par, and cardiorespiratory fitness often does not meet minimally acceptable job standards. During this time, daily occupational energy expenditure has decreased by more than 100 calories. It is recommended for employers to consider best practices and design workplace wellness programs accordingly. Regulations that protect and promote worker health, …

A Literature Review Of Paternal Involvement In Prenatal Care, Mary Elizabeth Meier, Lorena Avillaneda
A Literature Review Of Paternal Involvement In Prenatal Care, Mary Elizabeth Meier, Lorena Avillaneda
Journal of Family Strengths
Pregnancy and the transition to parenthood are critical periods for parents to be provided with relevant care, information, and assistance. Unfortunately, fathers do not receive the same guidance and support by the health care system, policymakers, or programs as their partners do. This paper reviews twelve studies that address father transition to parenthood and involvement in prenatal care, the positive outcomes of father involvement on child well-being, and the current state of prenatal father involvement. Recommendations for increased paternal involvement in prenatal care include creating a more father friendly environment in the health care setting, providing prevention-oriented care for men …

The Influence Of American Drama Series On Chinese Online Viewers, Yue Wu
Doctoral Dissertations
The American copyright industry constitutes one of the fastest growing sectors in the U.S. economy, and the narratives of Hollywood productions, as a typical example in the field of movies and television, carry universal appeal to the audience throughout the world (Atkin, 2003; Tunstall, 2007). Based on Uses and gratifications theory, Social cognitive theory, Cultivation theory, and the Reactance effect, the current study will investigate any influence of American drama series on Chinese Internet viewers by taking advantage of viewer exposure and involvement (viewing motivation, perceived realism, perceived relevance, affinity, and negative attitude towards censorship) as central independent variables to …

The Dietary Habits And Nutrition Education Levels Of Parents Of Pre-School Children At A Community Head Start Program, Lisa Renee Keys
The Dietary Habits And Nutrition Education Levels Of Parents Of Pre-School Children At A Community Head Start Program, Lisa Renee Keys
Kaleidoscope
The health of America’s youth is jeopardized as obesity, often beginning in childhood, becomes a major epidemic. Parents have exceptional influence on their children, especially nutritionally, which impacts how their children grow and develop. Parents with minimal nutrition education and who do not practice healthy eating habits may unintentionally influence their children in practices that could lead to nutrition-related disease and/or obesity. This research evaluated the dietary habits and nutrition knowledge of parents of preschoolers at a community Head Start program in Lexington, KY, which served a high percentage of Hispanic children. The parents were given a survey evaluating their …

Is Atmospheric Phosphorus Pollution Altering Global Alpine Lake Stoichiometry?, Janice Brahney, Natalie Mahowald, Daniel S. Ward, Ashley P. Ballantyne, Jason C. Neff
Ecosystem and Conservation Sciences Faculty Publications
Anthropogenic activities have significantly altered atmospheric chemistry and changed the global mobility of key macro-nutrients. Here we show that contemporary global patterns in nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) emissions drive large hemispheric variation in precipitation chemistry. These global patterns of nutrient emission and deposition (N:P) are in turn closely reflected in the water chemistry of naturally oligotrophic lake (r2 = 0.81, p < 0.0001). Observed increases in anthropogenic N deposition play a role in nutrient concentrations (r2 = 0.02, p < 0.05); however, atmospheric deposition of P appears to be major contributor to this pattern (r2 = 0.65, p < 0.0001). Atmospheric simulations indicate a global increase in P deposition by 1.4 times the pre-industrial rate largely due to increased dust and biomass burning emissions. Although changes in the mass flux of global P deposition are smaller than for N, the impacts on primary productivity may be greater because, on average, one unit of increased P deposition has 16 times the influence of one unit of N deposition. These stoichiometric considerations, combined with the evidence presented here, suggest that increases in P deposition may be a major driver of alpine Lake trophic status, particularly in the Southern Hemisphere. These results underscore the need for the broader scientific community to consider the impact of atmospheric phosphorus deposition on the water quality of naturally oligotrophic lakes.
Are We Making A Better World With Information And Communication Technology For Development (Ict4d) Research? Findings From The Field And Theory Building, Sajda Qureshi
Information Systems and Quantitative Analysis Faculty Publications
As Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) continue to penetrate people’s lives the world over, there is a sense that understanding the role of ICTs in the context of development needs to be conceptualized theoretically while making empirical contributions that add to what we know (Avgerou, 2008; Davison, 2012; Sein and Harindranath, 2004; Sahay and Walsham, 1995). Other scholars have pointed to the importance of this research for the field of Information Systems (ISs) in offering broader contributions. Avgerou (2008) suggests that in the era of globalization such research offers contributions in ISs beyond “organizational organizational and national boundaries and support …

Challenges And Resilience In African American Grandparents Raising Grandchildren: A Review Of The Literature With Practice Implications, Fengyan Tang, Heejung Jang, Valire Carr Copeland
GrandFamilies: The Contemporary Journal of Research, Practice and Policy
This paper reviews literature on grandparents raising grandchildren, focusing on caregiving challenges and resilience in African American grandparent caregivers within a socio-cultural context. A strengths perspective that emphasizes capacities and competencies at the individual, family, and community levels is applied in understanding how African American grandparents rely on their strengths to overcome caregiving challenges. Building on the review of social programs and intervention services that targeted empowerment practice, the authors propose an empowerment model of working with African American grandparents, that is, building capacities through an empowerment process to address caregiving challenges and to achieve positive caregiving outcomes. Finally, the …
