Touch Dna In A Complicated Alleged Child Abuse Case, Heather Miller Coyle

Forensic Science Publications

Touch DNA can be of use in establishing what may have occurred through reconstruction of events based on biological evidence transfer. However, interpretation of results and patterns must be approached with some caution as in the alleged child abuse case detailed here. This case was brought forward as a touch DNA and body fluid case where the male in question was a father reported to have forced a young child to perform oral sex on him. Her pajamas were collected and evaluated for presence of body fluids and associated DNA. The sleeves of the pajamas tested positive for amylase, a …

Compliant Strategy For Shipowners Towards Sustainable Maritime Transport : A Decision Framework For Air Emission Reduction Measures, Aditya Srivastava Dec 2015

Compliant Strategy For Shipowners Towards Sustainable Maritime Transport : A Decision Framework For Air Emission Reduction Measures, Aditya Srivastava

World Maritime University Dissertations

IMO uses three pillar strategy for air emission reduction including, technical, operational and market-based measures (MBM). The dissertation briefly describes the maritime regulatory framework for reduction of emissions. An overview on air emissions caused by the shipping sector is analysed. A brief look is taken on the need and methodology for inventory management of air emissions. A comparison between the market-based measures, operational measures, carbon tax and abatement measures for averting air emissions of carbon equivalent is made. The author has examined the abatement measures available to shipowners. This section also investigates the response of shipowners to different possible measures. …

“Against Interpretation”? On Global (Non-)Law, The Breaking-Up Of Homo Juridicus, And The Disappearance Of The Jurist, Luca Siliquini-Cinelli Dec 2015

“Against Interpretation”? On Global (Non-)Law, The Breaking-Up Of Homo Juridicus, And The Disappearance Of The Jurist, Luca Siliquini-Cinelli

Journal of Civil Law Studies

This paper investigates the nullification of homo juridicus and the vanishing of the jurist in relation to the liberal global-order project and the emergence and spread of soft-networked channels of post-national governance. By inquiring into the shift from the individual’s active will to the sterile behavioural schemes prompted by the universalisation of liberalism and economic analysis of social interactions, it will be argued that the jurist and the (rule of) law are no longer needed in a post-national system of rational and mechanic causations. Through an analysis of Susan Sontag’s and Josef Esser’s accounts for and against the interpretative task, …

The Interaction Of Public And Private Enforcement Of Competition Law In Lithuania, Rimantas Antanas Stanikunas, Arunas Burinskas Dec 2015

The Interaction Of Public And Private Enforcement Of Competition Law In Lithuania, Rimantas Antanas Stanikunas, Arunas Burinskas

Yearbook of Antitrust and Regulatory Studies

This paper provides a study of the interaction between public and private enforcement of Lithuanian antitrust law. The study refers to the Damages Directive. It has been found that private enforcement depends greatly on public enforcement of competition law. Therefore, their compatibility and balance are of great importance to antitrust policy. The Lithuanian NCA prioritises cases where an economic effect on competition does not have to be proven. This creates uncertainty about the outcome of private enforcement cases. Private enforcement in Lithuania is also in need of detailed rules on the identification of harm and causality. The analysis reveals how …

Identification Of Arabidopsis Gpat9 (At5g60620) As An Essential Gene Involved In Triacylglycerol Biosynthesis, Jay Shockey, Anushobha Regmi, Kimberly Cotton, Neil Adhikari, John Bowse, Philip D. Bates Dec 2015

Identification Of Arabidopsis Gpat9 (At5g60620) As An Essential Gene Involved In Triacylglycerol Biosynthesis, Jay Shockey, Anushobha Regmi, Kimberly Cotton, Neil Adhikari, John Bowse, Philip D. Bates

Faculty Publications

The first step in the biosynthesis of nearly all plant membrane phospholipids and storage triacylglycerols is catalyzed by a glycerol-3-phosphate acyltransferase (GPAT). The requirement for an endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-localized GPAT for both of these critical metabolic pathways was recognized more than 60 years ago. However, identification of the gene(s) encoding this GPAT activity has remained elusive. Here, we present the results of a series of in vivo, in vitro, and in silico experiments in Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) designed to assign this essential function to AtGPAT9. This gene has been highly conserved throughout evolution and is …

Modelling And Simulation Of Surface Plasmonic Resonance In Photonic Crystal Fiber / Rifat Ahmmed Aoni, Ahmmed Aoni Rifat Dec 2015

Modelling And Simulation Of Surface Plasmonic Resonance In Photonic Crystal Fiber / Rifat Ahmmed Aoni, Ahmmed Aoni Rifat

Student Works (2010-2019)

Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) refers to the coupling between the electromagnetic wave and the surface plasmonic wave (SPW) on the surface between a metal and a dielectric medium. Since last decade, the SPR behavior is widely applied in prism based SPR sensor, which is bulky and not suitable for remote monitoring applications. To overcome this limitation, photonic crystal fiber (PCF) based SPR sensor had attained great attention with the advantages of easily launching light through the fiber, small-size and design flexibility. To establish the SPR phenomena, metal deposition is necessary. Nowadays, in most of the PCF-SPR sensors, metal is selectively …
