Resolving Drug Manufacturer Liability For Generic Drug Warning Label Defects., Frank Scaglione
St. Mary's Law Journal
Although generic drugs are beneficial to consumers because they are offered as a more cost effective alternative to brand-name prescriptions, brand-name manufacturers are vulnerable to potential lawsuits because of generic drugs. Under the Drug Price Competition and Patent Term Restoration Act of 1984 (Hatch-Waxman Act), generic manufacturers are able to quickly enter the market following the termination of a brand-name drug’s patent. As a result of the Hatch-Waxman Act, 75% of all drugs on the market are generic. The Hatch-Waxman Act, however, also requires generic drug manufacturers to duplicate the brand-name drug’s warning label. As an unintended consequence, injuries have …

Other Faculty Publications
In 2013 and 2014, we have continually heard about data security breaches and cybersecurity has become a major concern for the legal community. Reports of information leakage and security breach concerns at legal information vendors, firms, universities, and even courts continued to increase. Ms. Jackson addresses the increasing cybersecurity concerns and suggests some considerations for law librarian, legal information professionals, and the organizations they serve in determining the measures to address security threats.
Poverty And Homelessness : A Content Analysis Of Children's Nonfiction Literature, Christine Newell
Poverty And Homelessness : A Content Analysis Of Children's Nonfiction Literature, Christine Newell
Graduate Research Papers
Units taught in social studies and language arts that address family issues, neighborhoods, communities, economic diversity, and social issues need to address the struggles, challenges, and fears of children living in poverty or who are homeless. Depictions of poverty and homelessness should be handled with accuracy and sensitivity. Connections made through the use of literature can help all students develop an understanding about the world around them and help them begin to realize the struggles of those who live in poverty.
This study of K-6 nonfiction books about poverty and homelessness investigated how these social problems were depicted in the …

A Literature Review And Application Of Quiet Eye, Anton Stalzer
Graduate Research Papers
The purpose of this paper was review the current literature on the concept of Quiet Eye. Quiet Eye is an emerging concept in targeting tasks, and it can improve performance for both experts and non-experts when used properly. It may also help shield performers from the effects of anxiety. The second part of this paper summarized the application of Quiet Eye with a junior high basketball team and how the athletes used Quiet Eye from a coach's perspective. The team was taught how to use Quiet Eye during free throw shooting. The athletes that utilized Quiet Eye had a higher …
Health And Gratitude: Grateful Patient Fundraising Practices And Considerations, Scott R. Ford
Health And Gratitude: Grateful Patient Fundraising Practices And Considerations, Scott R. Ford
Graduate Research Papers
The purpose of the study is to conduct a comprehensive literature review related to the emerging and rapidly changing landscape of grateful patient related healthcare philanthropy. Of specific review is research relating to the nuances and relationship interactions of patient/caregiver, caregiver/healthcare organization, and patient/organization in the work of soliciting financial support from health care recipients and their families.
Some health care outcomes are truly miraculous. Grateful patients abound. However, sometimes healthcare providers are reluctant to pursue expressions of gratitude, or may not even be aware of when a patient is overtly offering to support their work. Also, offering compelling opportunities …

A Strategy To Improve Nutrition And Increase Physical Activity In Primary School Children., Lisa Delaney
A Strategy To Improve Nutrition And Increase Physical Activity In Primary School Children., Lisa Delaney
Theses
Introduction: Paediatric obesity has become a global epidemic with many countries developing strategies to help tackle its prevalence. School based physical activity (PA) and nutrition interventions have proven to play a promising role in tackling childhood obesity.
Background: Project Spraoi is an Irish primary school based intervention. The intervention was delivered to an intervention school to help enhance PA and nutritional behaviour amongst pupils. The intervention school was assigned an 'Energizer'; a trained PA and nutrition change agent who worked with the school to achieve the objectives. For evaluation purposes a control school was recruited.
Methodology: Pupils from the intervention …

© 2015 Cox et al. Human metapneumovirus (HMPV), a member of the Paramyxoviridae family, is a leading cause of lower respiratory illness. Although receptor binding is thought to initiate fusion at the plasma membrane for paramyxoviruses, the entry mechanism for HMPV is largely uncharacterized. Here we sought to determine whether HMPV initiates fusion at the plasma membrane or following internalization. To study the HMPV entry process in human bronchial epithelial (BEAS-2B) cells, we used fluorescence microscopy, an R18-dequenching fusion assay, and developed a quantitative, fluorescence microscopy assay to follow virus binding, internalization, membrane fusion, and visualize the cellular site of …
Boundary Object Or Bridging Concept? A Citation Network Analysis Of Resilience, Jacopo A. Baggio, Katriana Brown, Denis Hellebrandt
Boundary Object Or Bridging Concept? A Citation Network Analysis Of Resilience, Jacopo A. Baggio, Katriana Brown, Denis Hellebrandt
Environment and Society Faculty Publications
Many recent studies observe the increasing importance, influence, and analysis of resilience as a concept to understand the capacity of a system or individual to respond to change. The term has achieved prominence in diverse scientific fields, as well as public discourse and policy arenas. As a result, resilience has been referred to as a boundary object or a bridging concept that is able to facilitate communication and understanding across disciplines, coordinate groups of actors or stakeholders, and build consensus around particular policy issues. We present a network analysis of bibliometric data to understand the extent to which resilience can …
