Structural And Functional Studies Of The Papain-Like Protease 2 From Mouse Hepatitis Virus, Yafang Chen
Structural And Functional Studies Of The Papain-Like Protease 2 From Mouse Hepatitis Virus, Yafang Chen
Open Access Dissertations
Our goal is to establish a system to investigate how the deubiquitinating (DUB) and deISGylating activities of coronavirus (CoV) papain-like protease domains (PLPs) are involved in virus immune evasion. To this end, we chose PLP2 from mouse hepatitis virus (MHV) as our target of study because MHV has historically served as a model system for the study of CoVs, and it has undeniable advantage of ease in culturing in comparison to human coronaviruses.
It is reported here the expression and purification of a region of MHV nsp3 that contains the catalytic core of the PLP2 domain and its neighboring domains. …
Overt And Covert Shandyism Of Nabokov's Nikolai Gogol, Margarit Ordukhanyan
Overt And Covert Shandyism Of Nabokov's Nikolai Gogol, Margarit Ordukhanyan
CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture
In her article "Overt and Covert Shandyism of Nabokov's Nikolai Gogol" Margarit Ordukhanyan examines Vladimir Nabokov's 1942 novel, an unusual biography of the nineteenth-century Russian author. Ordukhanyan discusses parallels between Nabokov's biography of Gogol and Laurence Sterne's Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy. She highlights the direct allusions and textual references Nabokov makes to Sterne's novel and argues that Nabokov uses Tristram Shandy as the model for creating and interpreting his biography of Gogol by fictionalizing Gogol and portraying him as a Shandean character. Further, Ordukhanyan discusses how Nabokov uses Sterne's novel to undermine the genre of literary …

Rape Perception Based On Religious Orientation, Gender, And Length Of Relationship, Julie A. Herweyer
All NMU Master's Theses
Rape victims face many difficulties after the traumatic event, one of these being inadequate social support. Victims frequently report apathetic, insensitive, or accusing reactions from support systems (Ahrens, 2006). Understanding how peers respond is essential for ensuring sufficient support is provided. This study explored how college students may perceive victims as predicted by participants’ gender, religious orientation, attitudes toward permissiveness, and length of relationship between victim and perpetrator. Also, order in which participants were asked about their sex was examined as a predicting variable. Participants were randomly assigned to read a vignette featuring a couple that had been dating for …
A Geographic View Of Expansion Choices By U.S. Firms In China, Rossitza Wooster, David Banis, Ayesha Khalid
A Geographic View Of Expansion Choices By U.S. Firms In China, Rossitza Wooster, David Banis, Ayesha Khalid
Economics Faculty Publications and Presentations
How does geography matter for explaining the location patterns of U.S. companies in China? We combine insights from the literature on economic geography and spatial interdependence in foreign direct investment (FDI) activity, to provide a comparative analysis using both sectoral regression results and maps that illustrate patterns in the data. We use a unique sample of publicly traded U.S. firms who announced expansion of operations into China between 1980 and 2005. Regression results show that relative to the tertiary sector, firm characteristics matter more for primary sector firms, whereas province characteristics matter more for secondary sector firms. Additionally, our GIS …

Reproductive Effects Of Pg600 In Female Pigs, Narathon Innamma, Attaporn Roongsitthichai
Reproductive Effects Of Pg600 In Female Pigs, Narathon Innamma, Attaporn Roongsitthichai
The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
PG600 is a synthetic gonadotropin comprising 400 IU equine chorionic gonadotropin (eCG) and 200 IU human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). Major responsibilities of PG600 were to stimulate follicle growth and induce ovulation. In replacement gilts, a number of large follicles were found after PG600 treatment. Nevertheless, the number of good quality follicles was not different between treatment and control gilts. In primiparous sows, the number of those returning to estrus within 10 days after weaning from PG600 were higher than those in control group. In addition, the administration of PG600 enhanced the number of piglets born alive per litter in the …

Construction Of Pooled Oocyte Expression Profiles Of Rhesus Monkey And Mouse For Concurrent Meta-Analyses, Kaj Chokeshaiusaha, Denis Puthier, Catherine Nguyen, Thanida Sananmuang
The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
Concurrent gene expression profiling meta-analysis of in vitro and in vivo matured oocytes among mammals can provide crucial knowledge to assist reproductive technologies. Due to the lack of methodology to prepare oocyte datasets for such analysis, we illustrated the procedures to merge in vitro and in vivo matured oocyte expression profiling datasets of rhesus monkey (Macaca mulatta) and mouse (Mus musculus). Datasets acquired from both species were pooled together based on types of their orthologous genes. To determine the feasibility of constructed pooled data, top orthologous genes differentially expressed between in vitro and in vivo oocytes were identified by Linear …

Genetic Parameters For Residual Feed Intake, Feed Efficiency And Average Daily Gain In Landrace Pigs, Thivakorn Sirichokchatchawan, Nalinee Imboonta
The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
Residual feed intake (RFI) is the difference between the actual feed intake (AFI) and the expected feed intake (EFI). RFI has become an increasingly important trait and is being considered as a more practical approach to evaluate feed efficiency (FE) in livestock. Data from 479 purebred Landrace pigs involved in a performance test were used in this study. Pigs were housed in an individual pen and fed ad libitum the same formula diet consisting of 2,950 kcal/kg of ME and 16% crude protein. Clean water was available to the pigs at all time. Pigs were weighed at the beginning and …

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
The reverse genetics (rg) technique has become an alternative approach to produce influenza virus vaccine strains in mammalian cells. The most frequently used genetic backbone for rg–derived viruses is from A/Puerto Rico/8/34 (H1N1) (PR8) virus which is currently approved for vaccine production. Previously, we reported that reassortant viruses with 6 internal genes from A/swine/IA/15/1930 (H1N1) (IA30) and HA and NA from A/chicken/Thailand/KU14/2004 (H5N1) replicated at higher titers than the corresponding PR8 reassortant. In this study, we aim to examine the IA30 genes that can enhance PR8 virus replication. Growth kinetics of PR8 viruses encoding PB2, PB1, PA, NP or NS …

Evaluation Of Using Modal Testing For Damage Detection In Masonry Arched Barrages., Ahmed Anwar, Ahmed Hashad
Mansoura Engineering Journal
Modal testing is widely used as a fast and effective tool for structural health monitoring and damage assessment. Old masonry barrages are characterized with their massive and rigid nature. Nevertheless, the complex material configurations make it difficult to be investigated and/or evaluated. This paper examined the ability and the constrains of using modal testing technique with masonry arches considering sensitivity and practicality. Masonry arches of a semi-circular shape with different stiffness and damage conditions were prepared and examined experimentally under static and dynamic tests. The dynamic characteristics for each condition were evaluated. A sound arch was degraded in two manners, …
