Utah's Water Future: Perspectives On Water Issues In Utah's Wasatch Range Metropolitan Area, Joanna Endter-Wada, Andrea Hall, Douglas B. Jackson-Smith, Courtney Flint

Environment and Society Faculty Publications

The iUTAH Household Survey was conducted in 2014 during a time when the State of Utah was initiating various activities aimed at charting a long-term strategy for securing Utah’s water future. Water is currently high on the state’s public policy agenda due to Utah’s rapid population growth and urbanization, future water supply uncertainties related to climate change, and the political challenges of allocating increasingly limited regional water supplies. In order to provide information relevant to water policy, planning and management, the survey focused on understanding residents’ water management practices, water experiences and concerns, as well as their support for various …

The Languages And Peoples Of The MüLler Mountains; A Contribution To The Study Of The Origins Of Borneo's Nomads And Their Languages, Bernard Sellato, Antonia Soriente Jul 2015

The Languages And Peoples Of The MüLler Mountains; A Contribution To The Study Of The Origins Of Borneo's Nomads And Their Languages, Bernard Sellato, Antonia Soriente

Wacana, Journal of the Humanities of Indonesia

The M ller and northern Schwaner mountain ranges are home to a handful of tiny, isolated groups (Aoheng, Hovongan, Kereho, Semukung, Seputan), altogether totaling about 5,000 persons, which are believed to have been forest hunter-gatherers in a distant or recent past. Linguistic data were collected among these groups and other neighbouring groups between 1975 and 2010, leading to the delineation of two distinct clusters of languages of nomadic or formerly nomadic groups, which are called MSP (M ller-Schwaner Punan) and BBL (Bukat-Beketan-Lisum) clusters. These languages also display lexical affinity to the languages of various major Bornean settled farming groups (Kayan, …

Ubiquitous Place Names; Standardization And Study In Indonesia, Allan F. Lauder, Multamia R.M.T. Lauder

Wacana, Journal of the Humanities of Indonesia

Place names play a vital role in human society. Names exist in all languages and place names are an indispensible part of international communication. This has been acknowledged by the establishment of the United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names (UNGEGN). One of UNGEGN's tasks is to coordinate international efforts on the proper use of place names. Indonesia supports this effort and through its National Geospatial Agency (BIG). Place names are also of interest as an object of study in themselves. Academic studies into place names are found in linguistics, onomastics, philosophy and a number of other academic disciplines. …

Factors Influencing Criminal Case Processing Time In Mclean County Courts, Christina Davila

Student Research – Stevenson Center

The McLean County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council seeks to ensure an effective, fair, and efficient system of justice. It aims to understand how different factors affect case processing time, so as to reduce unnecessary delay. An exploratory multivariate analysis of jail data was conducted to determine how case-related factors and factors unrelated to the case influence how long it took for a criminal case to be processed within the McLean County court system between 2007 and 2013. Based on the findings, case-related variables like charge severity, number of counts, and days in custody hold more predictive power than variables that …

Practices And Approaches Of Out-Of-School Time Programs Serving Immigrant And Refugee Youth, Georgia Hall, Michelle Porche, Jennifer Grossman, Sviatlana Smashnaya

Journal of Youth Development

Opportunity to participate in an out-of-school time program may be a meaningful support mechanism towards school success and healthy development for immigrant and refugee children. This study extends existing research on best practices by examining the on-the-ground experiences of supporting immigrant and refugee youth in out-of-school time programs. Findings from semi-structured interviews with program directors in 17 Massachusetts and New Hampshire programs suggest a number of program strategies that were responsive to the needs of immigrant and refugee students, including support for the use of native language as well as English, knowing about and celebrating the heritage of the students’ …

Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice

Purpose: The purpose of this article is to introduce readers to three educational perspectives: progressive, critical, and professional, and explain their relevance to allied health professional education.
