The Census Bureau estimates the population of Nebraska as of July 1, 2014 to be 1,881,503. This is an increase of 12,534 from the July 1, 2013 estimate, or an increase of 0.67 percent. Nebraska’s most current annual growth is slightly (about 1,000) less than the gain of 13,482 or 0.73 percent in the prior year. Nebraska has now gained population for 27 straight years, with the last annual population loss occurring in 1987, amid the “farm crisis”.

Objective: A survey was developed and distributed to pharmacists who have earned the certified asthma educator credential (AE-C) to assess asthma education services provided and their perceived value of the AE-C.

Design: A 28 item survey was developed, pretested and distributed electronically.

Participants: 224 AE-C certified pharmacists practicing within the United States were invited to participate.

Main Outcome Measures: Information pertaining to the level of education, professional affiliations, and practice setting was collected along with other demographic attributes.We also inquired about the types of asthma education services provided, related clinical activities, and whether AE-C pharmacists or …

In this paper we study duality for evaluation codes on intersections of ℓ hypersurfaces with given ℓ-dimensional Newton polytopes, so called toric complete intersection codes. In particular, we give a condition for such a code to be quasi-self-dual. In the case of it reduces to a combinatorial condition on the Newton polygons. This allows us to give an explicit construction of dual and quasi-self-dual toric complete intersection codes. We provide a list of examples over and an algorithm for producing them.

Determining the location of rare proteins in cells typically requires the use of on-sample amplification. Antibody based recognition and enzymatic amplification is used to produce large amounts of visible label at the site of protein expression, but these techniques suffer from the presence of nonspecific reactivity in the biological sample and from poor spatial control over the label. Polymerization based amplification is a recently developed alternative means of creating an on-sample amplification for fluorescence applications, while not suffering from endogenous labels or loss of signal localization. This study was designed to examine the impact extended year education versus traditional year calendars for African American males and females located in a Southern state school district. The school district consists of approximately 26,000 students and thirty elementary schools. The district has 27 of the elementary schools operated as traditional schools and three were operated as extended year education schools. The study only used a small number of the schools within the district. Control of powered prostheses using the information from leftover muscles in amputees is a challenging problem. I investigated the problem with a view to find clinically reliable and robust schemes that can interpret human intent and control a powered prosthesis in real-time. Recently, pattern classification systems have been suggested to map muscle activation patterns to the human intent (or the movement). However, due to the underlying generic structure, system-specific information cannot be exclusively incorporated into pattern classification algorithms. We welcome this further discussion of our results on the age of the Great Gallery rock art in the Canyonlands of Utah. The comment by Simon and Reed (1) focuses on just one of the three components of our study (2), which is presented in greater technical detail in ref. 3 and is surely our best-constrained and least-surprising result: the dating of a rock-fall that removed some of the art and thus provides a minimum age. This thesis explores the relationship between public opinion polls and voter support and asks whether exposure to a public opinion poll creates an unfair advantage for the candidate winning in that poll. The experimental results from this study were used to test the hypothesis that exposure to an opinion poll, with a wide lead for one of two candidates, would cause voter support to increase for the candidate who was leading in the poll (i.e. a bandwagon effect). Emus (Dromaius novaehollandiae) are exclusively terrestrial, bipedal and cursorial ratites with some similar biomechanical characteristics to humans. Their growth rates are impressive, as their body mass increases eighty-fold from hatching to adulthood whilst maintaining the same mode of locomotion throughout life. These ontogenetic characteristics stimulate biomechanical questions about the strategies that allow emus to cope with their rapid growth and locomotion, which can be partly addressed via scaling (allometric) analysis of morphology. This thesis handles the quandary of whether those communication styles are not only effective among the interactions with medical providers, but whether those effective means of communicating are embedded with ethical communication as well. The theory of symbolic interactionism and the philosophical basis of persuasive speech expound on the methodology pharmaceutical sales representatives implement with the people he or she encounters. Intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) is a fetal condition characterized by growth-rate reduction. Afflicted fetuses tend to display abnormalities in heart rate. Hence, studying its heart rate variability (HRV) along with comparisons against normal fetal HRV might give some insight into the heart rate dynamics between the two groups. Heart rate variability (HRV) is one of the prominent markers that could help in identifying fetal distress. This mixed-methods study examined whether one professional development approach, the Collaborative Inquiry-Based (CIB) framework, could impact student achievement within a small group reading intervention, Guided Reading Plus (GRP). Further, qualitative data were collected to better understand what activities teachers engaged in that could play a role in those achievement outcomes. Twelve first grade teachers were randomly selected and assigned to one of the three groups: Group 1- control, Group 2- GRP intervention only, and Group 3- GRP intervention and CIB professional development sessions. A convergent parallel mixed methods study was conducted to examine the effect of multiple layers of writing instruction for accelerating the literacy achievement of at-risk kindergarten students. Participants included 33 teachers and 151 kindergarten students from 9 schools. The effects of Treatment 2 Group (whole class, small-group writing instruction in the classroom, and Interactive Writing Intervention) and Treatment 1 Group (whole class and small-group writing instruction in the classroom) were compared to a Control Group (whole-class instruction).
