GWU-Today
The United States of America is a country that stretches from the Atlantic Ocean to Pacific Ocean. With this vast territory comes different types of words that have the same meaning. Buggie, cart, beanie, toboggan, soda, pop, you guys, y’all, cut on the lights, and turn on the lights; just using one of these words or phrases normally labels where a person is from in the U.S.

Leaders In Journalism Education: Administrators At Acejmc Accredited Programs And Non-Accredited Hbcu Programs Critique The Standards, Jerry Crawford
Journal of Research Initiatives
Administrators of journalism and mass communication units have had to make decisions on how they would lead their units into the future. For over 70 years, the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC) has been the agency that provided leadership in this endeavor. This study surveyed administrators of programs of accredited and also non-accredited journalism programs at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), asking them to critique and discuss their thoughts on the nine standards. Nearly unanimously the administrators agreed that accreditation, or as those not accredited stated, “best practices”, are essential. The study focused on …

International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
Session presented on Saturday, July 26, 2014:
The effectiveness of nurse-led pre-operative assessment clinics for patients receiving elective orthopaedic surgery: a systematic review. Key words: nurse-led clinic, pre-operative assessment, orthopaedic nursing. Abstract:' Background: Patients are usually admitted to hospital on the day before a scheduled surgery. However, patients are often found not fit for surgery due to changes in their medical or social conditions since the last medical consultation. This results in high cancellation rates on the day of surgery. Evidence suggesting that day of surgery cancellations waste hospital resources and cause anxiety in patients. Nurse-led preoperative assessment clinic (POAC) …

Development And Implementation Of A Team-Based Learning Module: An Academic Perspective, Jenny Morris
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
Session presented on Friday, July 25, 2014:
Team-based learning (TBL) was developed as a method of ensuring the benefits of small group teaching with large groups of 200+ students (Michaelsen, 2002). To implement TBL a course/module is divided into learning units each of which follows a specific sequence of activities: (i) out-of-class preparation; (ii) 'readiness assurance process' of individual and team testing, plus the opportunity for team appeals; and (iii) application activities in which teams work on problems (Parmelee & Michaelsen, 2010). Students are also required to provide feedback on each team member's contribution to team working. Teams of between …

ENP consists of nursing diagnosis with characteristics, etiologies, resources, outcomes, interventions as well as detailed guiding interventions. In Germany and other European countries, ENP is currently used by many hospitals, nursing homes and home health care services as an electronic patient record for nursing process documentation.

Measurement Of Moral Courage, Georgia A. Dinndorf-Hogenson
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
Session presented on Friday, July 25, 2014:
Purpose: Threats to patient safety exist. Nurse appraisals of these threats and the likelihood to act with moral courage have not been documented. This descriptive correlational study examined moral courage response to threats to patient safety. The moral courage model was based on Lazarus and Folkman's theory of stress and coping. The Dillman, Smythe, and Christenson (2009) tailored design method was used to construct the Moral Courage Questionnaire for Nurses (MCQN) instrument. Moral courage frequency and intensity were explored.
Methods: A randomized mail questionnaire distributed to Midwest perioperative registered nurses yielded 50% response …

International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
Session presented on Saturday, July 26, 2014:
Purpose: Moonlighting is commonly understood as having a second job, usually part-time, in addition to a primary full-time job. This paper examines whether moonlighting influences South African nurses intention to leave their primary jobs.
Methods: During 2010, a stratified random sample of 80 hospitals was selected from the public and private health sectors in four South African provinces.
