This research examines corporate diversity programs and initiatives from the perspective of the self-described diverse employee because they are intended to be the recipient of the benefits of diversity programs and initiatives. The research question is: In what ways have self-described diverse employees found that the diversity programs in their workplaces helped or hindered others in relating to them in ways that recognize their knowledge, skills, and abilities and allow them to be treated with respect and civility. Pt Management Of A Patient With A Cva Focusing On Functional Training With Neurodevelopmental Treatment-Based Interventions In The Inpatient Acute Rehabilitation Setting: A Case Report, Jessica Takatsuki
Case Report Papers
Background and Purpose: Patients whom have experienced a cerbrovascascular accident (CVA) commonly have difficulties with functional mobility. Rehabilitation is a common route taken by individuals who have experienced a CVA in order to regain function and independence. Neurodevelopmental treatment (NDT), a rehabilitation technique, emphasizes the integration of postural control and task performance, control of selective movement for the production of coordinated sequences of movement, and the contribution of sensory inputs to motor control and motor learning. The purpose of this case report is to describe functional training in conjunction with NDT-based interventions for a patient with a CVA during a …

Education Technology
The purpose of this report is to explore the expansion of the MLTI program that occurred in the 2013‐2014 academic year. In June 2014, over 400 individuals from Maine public schools were solicited to participate in a survey examining their experiences with MLTI technology in their schools. In 2013‐2014, for the first time since the inception of MLTI in 2002, the program shifted to a multiple‐device solution, which offered schools the opportunity to select from a range of device choices, including a MacBook Air, iPad, or HP Probook. Both the MacBook Air and the HP Probook were traditionally formatted laptops, …

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)
The stability of a communication network is one of the important parameters for network designers and users. A communication network can be considered to be highly vulnerable if the destruction of a few elements cause large damage and only few members are able to communicate. In a communication network several vulnerability measures like binding number, toughness, scattering number, integrity, tenacity, edge tenacity and rupture degree are used to determine the resistance of network to the disruption after the failure of certain nodes (vertices) or communication links (edges). Domination theory also provides a model to measure the vulnerability of a graph …

Using Book Clubs To Study The Difference In Student Discourse And Persona In Face-To-Face Versus Online Discussion Of Literature, Alexandra Zornow
Using Book Clubs To Study The Difference In Student Discourse And Persona In Face-To-Face Versus Online Discussion Of Literature, Alexandra Zornow
Education Masters
The goal of this study is to examine the differences in student discourse and persona in an online book club and a face-to-face book club. Data was collected in the form of questionnaires, field notes, and transcripts of both online and face-to-face literature discussions. The study reveals that there are various differences in student discourse when using an online discussion platform. When using a virtual book club, there are obstacles that impact student participation, students’ behavior and interaction changes and students utilize a form of netspeak to communicate in an online setting. The implications of this study can assist educators …

Administrative Issues Journal
College students have difficulty in written communication, despite attempts by universities to place English courses in the “core curriculum.” Although many companies indicate that writing is an expected competency, and many companies consider writing when they promote, students still enter the workforce with poor grammar skills. Clear and concise communication is especially important in the health professions, where life-and-death decisions may be made based on written communication. Instructors in a large southwestern university used the concept of “selection” to provide more opportunities for students to practice their writing skills. Students could self-select up to 19 written assignments throughout the semester, …

Key Characteristics Of Teacher Leaders In Schools, Angela Lumpkin, Heather Claxton, Amanda Wilson
Administrative Issues Journal
Teacher leaders who share their specialized knowledge, expertise, and experience with other teachers broaden and sustain school and classroom improvement efforts. Teacher leaders can transform classrooms into learning laboratories where every student is engaged in relevant and well-designed curricular content, every teacher embraces the use of more effective instructional strategies, and authentic assessments provide evidence of rich student learning. This work describes four essentialities associated with teacher leaders: a focus on student learning, along with the importance of empowerment, relationships, and collaboration. In addition to gleaning insights from the literature, examples of the impact of teacher leaders in schools are …

A Critical Humanist Curriculum, Kevin Magill, Arturo Rodriguez
A Critical Humanist Curriculum, Kevin Magill, Arturo Rodriguez
Literacy, Language, and Culture Faculty Publications and Presentations
This essay is a critical humanist discussion of curriculum; a departure from the technicist view of education [education meant to support a global capitalist economy] and an analysis of curriculum considering critical humanism, political economy and critical race theory among other modes of critical analysis and inquiry. Our discussion supports a revolutionary curriculum: the turn from a static coercive system of domination where the everyday lives of students are controlled to a dynamic liberatory education where education supports a student's imaginary (Pinar), creativity and their everyday practice of freedom (Freire, Greene, hooks).

Research Collection Library
The Singapore Management University (SMU) Library was tasked with documenting the early history of SMU by the chairman of its board of trustees. An oral history project to interview the pioneers involved in the formation of the university began in 2011. The project team included the Library, the Information Technology department, and a researcher/interviewer who was familiar with SMU. It was a steep learning curve for the team. As they conducted and processed the interviews, they learned about and made decisions on interviewing, recording, transcribing, storage, website design, discoverability, usability, and sustainability. The resulting oral history website presents the interviews …
