Why History Matters For Media Literacy Education, Michael Robbgrieco
Why History Matters For Media Literacy Education, Michael Robbgrieco
Journal of Media Literacy Education
The ways people have publicly discussed and written about media literacy in the past have great bearing on how citizens, educators and learners are able to think about and practice their own media literacy. Our concepts of media literacy have evolved over time in response to changing contexts of media studies and educational discourses as well as changes in communication technologies, media industries, politics, and popular culture. My research on the history of Media&Values magazine 1977-1993, made possible by the Elizabeth Thoman Media Literacy Archive, illustrates how tracing developments of media literacy concepts over time can give us much needed …

Creating Critical Viewers, Renee Cherow-O'Leary
Journal of Media Literacy Education
This essay is a personal reflection on the implementation of Creating Critical Viewers, a national media literacy program sponsored by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS), an industry association, in 1995. The television industry’s decision to develop a media literacy curriculum in the 1990s was a powerful statement by certain broadcasters to take seriously the ethical and social questions being raised about the impact of their work and to learn how to address those questions through education.

Is There A European Innovation Crisis!? The Impact Of Product And Labour Market Deregulation, Armend Muja
Is There A European Innovation Crisis!? The Impact Of Product And Labour Market Deregulation, Armend Muja
UBT International Conference
Economists have often talked about the European Paradox:” - Europe having the necessary knowledge and research but failing to utilize these advantages and bring them to the markets. The perception, largely attributable to the media reporting, is that Europe lags behind the United States in innovation. While it is true that most of the e-commerce innovations were developed in the United States, Europe’s economies did well over the 1990s despite the lack of major breakthroughs in hightech sphere. Thus, it is hard to say that Europe is facing an innovation crisis, and I will argue that Europe has other advantages …

Living sustainable, a vision that I developed at the Design Studio Schwarz, University of Liechtenstein. Living sustainable raises questions about living in balance with our natural resources. We are living on costs of next generations, so we are responsible to make the changes with architectural interventions in our society for our society. Based on „World Energy Council“ report of 2011, our planet will have 2.2 billion inhabitants more on 2050, reaching 9.2 billion, by challenging a huge demand on mobility, food, goods and building as well. In order to having a bigger impact and a better control over growing up-mentioned …

Exploring The “Faces” Of Europeanization From An Albanian Perspective, Irma Spahiu
Exploring The “Faces” Of Europeanization From An Albanian Perspective, Irma Spahiu
UBT International Conference
Europeanization is a process existent in all countries applying for EU membership, including Albania. This article aims to explore Olsen’s faces of Europeanization by looking at how this process has taken place in Albania and if it has led to substantial changes in the Albanian politics and governance. It has been argued that Europeanization is a dual process that affects both domestic policies and European Union. The article explores this relationship in the Albanian case. It argues that Europeanization in Albania is occurring in an “Albanian fashion-way” with some unique features which are labelled as ‘Europeanization by convenience’.

The Importance Of The Judiciary For The European Integration Of Eu Candidate Countries: The Case Of Albania, Klodian Rado
UBT International Conference
All Western Balkan countries currently holding the EU Candidate Country status, namely, Albania, Montenegro, FYROM, Serbia, and hopefully in the near future Kosovo, are in a critical stage of the EU integration. From their institutions are required serious reforms which are necessary for almost all the of above countries. The focus of this paper is Albania. After the approval of the EU Candidate Country status, each branch of the Albanian government is now facing new legal challenges. However, at this stage, the central role passes to the judiciary, which should and could turn into a real “engine” of the EU …

This region with great strategic significance draws attention not only because it functioned as a bridge between the East and the West but also because of cultural and political values in perspective of the process of changes and developments that have taken place throughout time. As an establishment the coffeehouse is a vital concept for society. Beside their fundamental functions, coffeehouses have gained additional functions over the course of history. The problems in the labor market include employment, unemployment, percentage of coverage and salary. Employment, that is, the level of unemployment emerges as a major problem in the Republic of Macedonia as well as elsewhere in the region (including also Slovenia, Albania and Kosovo). The reason for the existence of such problems in the area of the labor market is the global economic crisis. In order to mitigate the consequences of this strategic management of human resources or the unemployed work force on market, strengthening the employees with upgrading skills should apply. Dmca Safe Harbors For Virtual Private Server Providers Hosting Bittorrent Clients, Stephen J. Wang
Dmca Safe Harbors For Virtual Private Server Providers Hosting Bittorrent Clients, Stephen J. Wang
Duke Law & Technology Review
By the time the U.S. Supreme Court decided Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. v. Grokster Ltd. in 2005, Internet users around the globe who engaged in copyright infringement had already turned to newer, alternative forms of peer-to-peer filesharing. One recent development is the “seedbox,” a virtual private server rentable for use to download and upload (“seed”) files through the BitTorrent protocol. Because BitTorrent is widely used for both non-infringing and infringing purposes, the operators of seedboxes and other rentable BitTorrent-capable virtual private servers face the possibility of direct and secondary liability as did the defendants in Grokster and more recent cases like …
Sharing Is Airing: Employee Concerted Activity On Social Media After Hispanics United, Ryan Kennedy
Sharing Is Airing: Employee Concerted Activity On Social Media After Hispanics United, Ryan Kennedy
Duke Law & Technology Review
Section 7 of the United States’ National Labor Relations Act allows groups of American workers to engage in concerted activity for the purposes of collective bargaining or for “other mutual aid or protection.” This latter protection has been extended in cases such as Lafayette Park Hotel to workers outside the union context. Starting in 2005, the National Labor Relations Board increasingly signaled to employers that concerted activity may take place on social media such as Facebook. However, the Board proper delivered its first written opinion articulating these rules in the 2012 case of Hispanics United of Buffalo, Inc. There, the …

After the falling down of the “iron curtain” Vienna starts to grow again. It is now a metropolitan area with about 2.6 Mio. inhabitants. Vienna is surrounded by Lower Austria, which is one of the nine countries (Bundesländer) of Austria. Spatial Planning is based on the Austrian Constitution a complex matter. The Federal State, the Countries and the Municipalities have competences in Spatial Planning. The article explores the issue of multi-ethnic society, by looking at the state iconography, the citizenship issue as well as ethnic relations based on Kosovo as a case study. Documentation And Inventory Of Architectural Heritage. The European Model Including The Role Of Universities Within, Caroline Jaeger Klein
Documentation And Inventory Of Architectural Heritage. The European Model Including The Role Of Universities Within, Caroline Jaeger Klein
UBT International Conference
Preserving its architectural heritage has a long tradition in the European history. For the famous Renaissance and Baroque architects especially in Italy it was considered to be integrated part of their “art”. Hence, it were art historians to start systematic documentation of the cultural heritage around 1900. For Central Europe Georg Dehio in Strasbourg and Alois Riegl and Max Dvořák in Vienna were most influential. Their legacy are printed inventory handbooks and art-topographies, which documented the built heritage and gave public access to heritage information. This is the inevitable base for protection and care of monuments as well as for …
