In this paper, we proposed an efficient numerical method based on uniform Haar wavelet for the numerical solutions of two parameter singularly perturbed boundary value problems. Such type of problems arise in various field of science and engineering, such as heat transfer problem with large Peclet numbers, Navier-Stokes flows with large Reynolds numbers, transport phenomena in chemistry and biology, chemical reactor theory, aerodynamics, reaction-diffusion process, quantum mechanics, optimal control theory etc. In present study more accurate solutions have been obtained by wavelet decomposition with multiresolution analysis. An extensive amount of error analysis has been carried out to obtain the convergence …
Hardy–Leindler Type Inequalities On Time Scales, S. H. Saker
Hardy–Leindler Type Inequalities On Time Scales, S. H. Saker
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this paper, we will prove some new dynamic inequalities on a time scale T. These inequalities, as special cases, when T = R contain some integral inequalities and when T = N contain the discrete inequalities due to Leindler. The main results will be proved by using the H¨older inequality and a simple consequence of Keller’s chain rule on time scales. From our results, as applications, we will derive some new continuous and discrete Wirtinger type inequalities. The technique in this paper is completely different from the technique used by Leindler to prove his main results.

A Novel Authentication Scheme With Anonymity For Wireless Communications, Liaojun Pang, Huixian Li, Xia Zhou, Yumin Wang
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Aiming at the anonymity problem existing in Zhu et al.’s and Lee et al.’s schemes,Wu et al. proposed an improved scheme. But,Wu et al.’s scheme is also proven unable to provide anonymity. Especially, Zeng et al. declared that due to an inherent design flaw in Zhu et al.’s scheme, Zhu et al.’s scheme and its successors are unlikely to provide anonymity. However, in fact, we can use a simple but effective method to solve this anonymity problem. In this paper, based on Wu et al.’s scheme, we propose a novel authentication scheme with anonymity for wireless communications. Our method is …

The Implementation Of Lsmr In Image Deblurring, Hao Xu, Ting-Zhu Huang, Xiao-Guang Lv, Jun Liu
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Image deblurring is a classic problem which has been extensively studied in image processing. The challenge of image deblurring is how to devise efficient and reliable algorithms for recovering the original, sharp image from a blurred and noisy one. In this paper, we consider the implementation of the LSMR method for computing an approximate solution of an ill-posed problem arising from image deblurring. When equipped with a stopping rule based on the discrepancy principle, the LSMR method acts as a regularization method. The numerical examples illustrate that the LSMR method is able to give restored images of higher quality with …

Discrete Adaptive Sliding Mode Control Via Wavelet Network For A Class Of Nonlinear Systems, Xiaoyu Zhang
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Unmodelled dynamics and perturbations are always immeasurable. In this paper, an adaptive sliding mode control (ASMC) based on wavelet network (WN) for a class of non-affine multi-variable nonlinear discrete systems is presented in order to compensate them. Wavelet network which parameters are tuned on-line is adopted to realize the equivalent control, and hitting controls are added in order to satisfy reaching conditions. By combining the adaptive WN with SMC strategy, the constructed control law has many advantages such as robustness, adaptive characters, and the precise mathematic models of controlled plants are not required. Finally, experiment on an inverted pendulum control …

With increasing improvement of the business process management (BPM) technology, large-scale business process repositories have been adapted widely. However, due to the explosion of the number of business processes, a large part of enterprises are confronting with the challenge on effective management of those massive processes. Usually, each business process is modeled as a process graph, and therefore most existing approaches are based on graph mining algorithms. This paper puts forward a new method, which first utilizes the breadth first search (BFS) algorithm to label the process model, and then calculates the similarity based on the matching distance. The experimental …

Finger Vein Recognition Based On Personalized Discriminative Bit Map, Xuzhou Li, Xiaoming Xi, Yilong Yin, Gongping Yang
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Finger vein recognition is a promising biometric recognition due to its some advantages. For a finger vein recognition system, feature extraction is a critical step for the final recognition. In our previous work, we proposed Personalized Best Bit Map(PBBM) which selected the stable bits from LBP. Although PBBM achieve a better performance, it still contains some useless bits for recognition. In this paper, we propose Personalized Discriminative Bit Map(PDBM) which select much more discriminative bits from PBBM. The bits of PDMB are more discriminative and more effective for the final recognition. In addition, compared with PBBM, the number of bits …

Maximum Entropy For Image Segmentation Based On An Adaptive Particle Swarm Optimization, Chengming Qi
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Abstract: Image segmentation is applied widely to image processing and object recognition. Threshold segmentation is a simple and important method in grayscale image segmentation. Information entropy can characterize the grayscale in formation of image and distinguish between the objectives and background. In this paper, we use exponential entropy instead of logarithmic entropy and propose a new multilevel thresholds image segmentation method based on maximum entropy and adaptive Particle Swarm Optimization (APSO). This proposed algorithm takes full account of the spatial information and the gray information to decrease the computing quantity. The APSO takes advantage of the characteristics of particle swarm …

Analysis Of The Composition Of Non-Deducibility In Cyber-Physical Systems, Jingming Wang, Huiqun Yu
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Cyber-Physical Systems (CPSs) are integrations of computation and physical processes. Now researchers are confronted with the difficulty in the analysis and verification of information confidentiality in complex CPSs owing to physically observable behavior and physical components appended to cyber systems. This problem can be solved effectively by using some simple or small systems to compose the complex CPSs while achieving the confidentiality of the composite system by preserving that of small systems. Firstly, the paper introduces the definition of non-deducibility and the definition and operation of Petri net and four compositions (sequence, iteration, parallel and alternative composition) for non-deducibility (ND). …

Joint Frequency Offset And Channel Estimation For Distributed Mimo In Time-Varying Channels, Lijun Song, Zhaofu Kong, Yang Luo, Yinze Li, Xiao Chen, Xia Lei
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this paper, the joint estimation of frequency offsets and channel for distributed MIMO system in time-varying channel is discussed. We assume that each pair of transmit and receive antennas has a different frequency offset. We promote the multi-parameter estimation based on expectation conditional maximization (ECM) and space-alternating generalized expectation-maximization (SAGE) for a MIMO system operating under a flat-fading environment to the multi-parameter estimation using EM algorithm for distributed MIMO systems in time-varying channel. Theoretical analysis and simulation results indicate that the improvement can well compensate for the performance loss caused by time-variability and achieve good performance for time-varying distributed …

Literacy, Language and Culture Faculty Publications and Presentations
In the aftermath of the federal mandates imposed through No Child Left Behind, the state-led effort to establish common math and English standards across states—known as the Common Core State Standards—seemed a welcome change in the approach to improving student achievement and success. However, the effort to ensure that students were ready for college or the workforce became the political target of those who distrust federal mandates and fear a nationalized education agenda bent on social engineering. The standards became intertwined with NSA spying, data mining, and federal grants for education with strings attached.

Online Information Searching For Cardiovascular Diseases: An Analysis Of Mayo Clinic Search Query Logs, Ashutosh Sopan Jadhav, Amit P. Sheth, Jyotishman Pathak
Kno.e.sis Publications
Since the early 2000’s, Internet usage for health information searching has increased significantly. Studying search queries can help us to understand users “information need” and how do they formulate search queries (“expression of information need”). Although cardiovascular diseases (CVD) affect a large percentage of the population, few studies have investigated how and what users search for CVD. We address this knowledge gap in the community by analyzing a large corpus of 10 million CVD related search queries from MayoClinic.com. Using UMLS MetaMap and UMLS semantic types/concepts, we developed a rule-based approach to categorize the queries into 14 health categories. We …

Analysis Of A Scheduler For Virtualization Of Links With Performance Isolation, Andrzej Chydzinski, Blazej Adamczyk
Analysis Of A Scheduler For Virtualization Of Links With Performance Isolation, Andrzej Chydzinski, Blazej Adamczyk
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this paper we deal with a scheduling algorithm that creates several virtual links on one physical link by switching the service between the virtual links. The switching is done in such a way that the physical link is available for each virtual link for a constant time, what provides full performance isolation between virtual links. Firstly, we present a detailed analysis of the scheduler, including formulas for the queue sizes associated with virtual links and their packet loss ratios. Then we show numerical examples of performance characteristics of created virtual links. We also compare them with adequate non-virtual links …

Classical And Quasi-Newton Methods For A Meteorological Parameters Prediction Boundary Value Problem, Ioannis Famelis, Georgios Galanis, Matthias Ehrhardt
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
We study the numerical solution of a Boundary Value problem for second order quadratic differential equations which arises in the numerical prediction of meteorological parameters. In the present work, we use finite differences and focus on the numerical solution of the resulting nonlinear system. More precisely, we apply classical Newton’s and Quasi-Newton methods paying attention to the special sparse form of the Jacobian matrix and modify appropriately the LU factorization in order to reduce significantly the required floating point operations. Furthermore, we implement and study in depth the behavior of all the proposed procedures in respect of their accuracy, stability …

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Microwave Plasma Chemical Vapor Deposition (MPCVD) can be used to grow various kinds of diamond films and carbon nanotubes at various temperatures. Issues concerning plasma modeling and control play an important role in MPCVD systems. One crucial factor in controlling the plasma shape and position is the tunable reflected microwave power of the MPCVD system. However, modeling the tunable reflected power is highly complex and remains a poorly developed. In this paper, the microwave power distribution corresponding to the adjustable electromagnetic field is modeled by 2-D Gaussian Mixture Modeling (GMM). The simulations using the model show that microwave power data …

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
Micro-invasive aesthetic services are becoming more popular, and thus the industry is becoming more competitive. It is thus critical for companies to better understand the criteria that consumers use when choosing a micro-invasive aesthetic service provider. In order to investigate this issue, three focus group interviews were carried out in this study and the related literature was reviewed in order to find the relevant criteria. The Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) was then employed to find casual relationships among the criteria, while the Analytic Network Process (ANP) was further applied to evaluate the importance of each criterion. After …
