Curriculum, Marginalization, And The Professoriate, William L. White
Curriculum, Marginalization, And The Professoriate, William L. White
Journal of Inquiry and Action in Education
The author exposes the subtext on which education and particularly curriculum making is based by focusing on the notion that the professoriate has been marginalized within curriculum planning by an educational hegemony that utilizes the sorting and classification mechanisms present in schooling to co-opt the development of educational plans.

Being In The Know: Socio-Epistemics And The Communicative Constitution Of A Management Team, Jonathan Clifton
Organization Management Journal
Increasingly, organizational research is taking the linguistic turn in social sciences seriously. Consequently, the central role of communication in the constitution of the organization is also finding greater acceptance. Using conversation analysis as a research methodology and transcripts of naturally occurring talk as data, the purpose of this article is to add to this growing body of research and to explicate how orientation to epistemic rights talks the hierarchy of the organization into being. Findings indicate how the negotiation of rights to have and to display status-based knowledge of head office index the discursive identities of knowing participants, which enacts …

2014 Honors Council of the Illinois Region Papers

Through an interconnected scheme of: survival challenges, knowledge and action; there is found grounding for the physical sciences, the social sciences and philosophy itself. Communicative action becomes the “glue” that holds society together in reference to those sciences, for Habermas, communicative action is how shared meaning about the world is established and it is through communicative action and based on communicative …

Word Ways
The editorship of Word Ways brought me into contact with the National Puzzlers' League. Founded in New York City on July 4 1883 as the Eastern Puzzlers' League, this organization has for more than a century been dedicated to the construction and solution of rhymed word puzzles, a pastime as popular in the nineteenth century as the crossword is today.

Anagramming Co-Authors, Solomon W. Golomb
Word Ways
A British mathematician, I.J. Good, who was a veteran of the World War II codebreaking group at Bletchley Park, once published a paper listing "k. Caj Doog" as co-author (an obvious rearrangement of the letters of Jack Good). When asked subsequently about the status of his collaborator, Good replied that he lost contact with Doog after the Chinese Communists overran Tibet.

Half-alphabet lipograms (HALs) limit words to half of the alphabet. The title is limited to A-M. Any other way of dividing the alphabet in two is also included. The challenge is to convert ordinary prose into HALs by crook or innuendo and leave the text readable.
