An Exploration Of The Relationship Between Teachers’ Psychological Capital And Their Collective Self-Esteem, Charmaine S. Bissessar
Australian Journal of Teacher Education
Teachers who possess high levels of psychological capital and collective self-esteem are better able to cope with the spate of school violence, student/student bullying, and other current issues confronting the education system globally, regionally, and nationally. A teacher psychological capital high in hope, optimism, self-efficacy, resilience, and collective self-esteem translates into educators who possess a more positive outlook and can impart and influence how their students perceive themselves. No known research exists in the Trinidadian context linking both psychological capital and collective self-esteem. This study expands the body of research in these two areas, locally, by reporting the findings of …

Occupational Rhinitis, Asanee Chotipanvithayakul
Asian Medical Journal and Alternative Medicine
Occupational rhinitis is defined as that occurring secondary to exposure in the workplace to causal agents. Nasalitching, sneezing, rhinorrhea, and nasal congestion are the common presentations. Avoidance of exposure and an adequatepharmacotherapy are important measures for the treatment. However, occupational rhinitis is frequently under-diagnoseddue to lack of physician awareness. If exposure to the offending agent persists, occupational rhinitis may develop intooccupational asthma. For this reason, the knowledge of occupational rhinitis is important to help affected workers not tohave reduced work abilities and quality of lives caused by a preventable and curable disease.

Protest Of Doctors: A Basic Human Right Or An Ethical Dilemma, Imran Naeem Abbasi
Community Health Sciences
Background: Peaceful protests and strikes are a basic human right as stated in the United Nations' universal declaration on human rights. But for doctors, their proximity to life and death and the social contract between a doctor and a patient are stated as the reasons why doctors are valued more than the ordinary beings. In Pakistan, strikes by doctors were carried out to protest against lack of service structure, security and low pay. This paper discusses the moral and ethical concerns pertaining to the strikes by medical doctors in the context of Pakistan. The author has carefully tried to balance …

The Prudential Third Party Standing Of Family-Owned Corporations, Matthew I. Hall, Benjamin Means
Scholarly Works
On November 26, 2013, the Supreme Court agreed to decide whether for-profit corporations or their shareholders have standing to challenge federal regulations that implement the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA). At issue in the two cases consolidated for appeal, Hobby Lobby and Conestoga Wood Specialties, are regulations mandating that employers with fifty or more employees offer health insurance that includes coverage for all contraceptives approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The plaintiffs assert that providing certain types of contraceptive care would be contrary to their religious beliefs and allege, therefore, that the mandate violates the Religious …

Seeking A Comprehensive Worldview: The Religious Seeker In The Modern World, Michael Gregory
Undergraduate Theses and Capstone Projects
Anecdotally, the casual observer of anthropological phenomenon may be led to believe that every human is basically the same. Indeed, many may assume that groups of people possess identical beliefs, religions, and expressions that hardly vary across different cultures and generations. Throughout the plethora of different cultures and the countless varieties of religious expression and experience it may seem that all of humanity is merely following the same lifestyles and worldviews as their parents and ancestors with very little change save for the gradual evolution in society. A religious studies scholar, or any scholar of the humanities, however, may notice …

A Role For Law In Preparing For Death, Barbara A. Noah
A Role For Law In Preparing For Death, Barbara A. Noah
Faculty Scholarship
This Article discusses the limits of how end of life law can address threats to patient autonomy. The reluctance of physicians, patients and family to discuss end of life matters and to confront the certainty of death, together with a culture that actively denies the aging process itself, interferes with a patient’s ability to exercise choice as death approaches. Thus, patients often suffer needlessly from the continuation of treatments and life-supportive measures that they would choose to decline if better informed about their choices and the importance of choosing. Advance directives, as a legal mechanism, often fail fully to protect …

An Environmental Conversation, William Murray Tabb

Federal environmental law and policy ambitiously purports to provide clean air and water, protect endangered and threatened species, clean-up hazardous and toxic waste sites, and infuse environmental considerations into the decision-making process of all federal agencies with respect to major proposals impacting the environment. Despite such lofty goals and an expansion of the regulatory state, certain types of activities and associated risks have eluded statutory coverage. Additionally, these uncoordinated federal environmental statutes typically embody a singular and sometimes myopic focus, leading to unpredictable or undesirable regulatory gaps, constraints, and inefficiencies. Further, limitations on standing and judicial review may significantly limit …

Environmental factors as well as classroom practices are examined to determine what is causing disengagement in students. When disengagement factors are discovered, solutions are offered on how best to engage students in the physical education environment. Solutions involving both practical applications for teachers as well as possible implications for broader school-based solutions are …

The human papillomavirus affects over half of sexually active males and females at some point in their lifetime. Fortunately, there is a recommended vaccine, Gardasil, which can help protect both young males and females from acquiring certain strains of the HPV virus (CDC, 201 ld). The American Academy of Family Physicians, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine recommend HPV vaccination (CDC, 2012d). Even with these recommendations from highly trusted medical organizations and the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices' (ACIP) routine recommendation for use in 11 and …
