A Research Framework For The Impact Of Cultural Differences On It Outsourcing, Anil Gurung, Edmund Pratter
A Research Framework For The Impact Of Cultural Differences On It Outsourcing, Anil Gurung, Edmund Pratter
Management Information Systems Faculty Research
Contracting Global Virtual Teams as part of global IT outsourcing is currently en vogue. As might be expected when virtual team members are from different countries, cultural factors play an important role in the success of outsourcing. However, there have been very few studies that assess the effect of culture on IT outsourcing and virtual teams. This conceptual paper addresses this oversight by looking at the effect of cultural differences on IT outsourcing and virtual teams' performance. The applicable literature on outsourcing, virtual teams and culture is analyzed and a framework of offshore outsourcing success is developed. This framework includes …

Interpreting The Paleozoogeography And Sea Level History Of Thermally Anomalous Marine Terrace Faunas: A Case Study From The Last Interglacial Complex Of San Clemente Island, California, Daniel R. Muhs, Lindsey T. Groves, R. Randall Schumann
Monographs of the Western North American Naturalist
Marine invertebrate faunas with mixtures of extralimital southern and extralimital northern faunal elements, called thermally anomalous faunas, have been recognized for more than a century in the Quaternary marine terrace record of the Pacific Coast of North America. Although many mechanisms have been proposed to explain this phenomenon, no single explanation seems to be applicable to all localities where thermally anomalous faunas have been observed. Here, we describe one such thermally anomalous fossil fauna that was studied on the second emergent marine terrace at Eel Point on San Clemente Island. The Eel Point terrace complex is a composite feature, consisting …

Akt Sensitization Of Cancer Cells, Said M. Sebti, Jin Q. Cheng
Akt Sensitization Of Cancer Cells, Said M. Sebti, Jin Q. Cheng
USF Patents
Most human tumors find ways to resist anticancer drug monotherapy. Akt is considered a likely peptide providing such monotherapy drug resistance. Data indicates that Akt chemoresistance is induced in a p53-dependent manner and that inhibition of Akt may be an effective means of overcoming chemoresistance in cancer cells expressing wild-type p53. Breast, ovarian, lung cancer and leukemia cells lines were treated with combinations of Akt activation inhibitor Triciribine (TCN) or Triciribine phosphate (TCNP) and chemotherapeutic drugs to determine the efficiency of combination therapy. Additionally, cells were introduced into xenograft models to determine in vivo effects of combination treatment. Combining TCN …

Upjohn Institute Policy Papers
Substantial research shows that high-quality early childhood education programs have a large economic payoff. This payoff is increased earnings for former child participants, increased earnings for parents, and increased earnings for all workers when average worker skills improve. A program package of universal pre-K, combined with child care and parenting support for all low-income families, would cost $80 billion annually. But each dollar invested in this package would yield future economic benefits of over 10 times as great.

The Contributions Of Donald Lee Johnson To Understanding The Quaternary Geologic And Biogeographic History Of The California Channel Islands, Daniel R. Muhs
The Contributions Of Donald Lee Johnson To Understanding The Quaternary Geologic And Biogeographic History Of The California Channel Islands, Daniel R. Muhs
Monographs of the Western North American Naturalist
Over a span of 50 years, native Californian Donald Lee Johnson made a number of memorable contributions to our understanding of the California Channel Islands. Among these are (1) recognizing that carbonate dunes, often cemented into eolianite and derived from offshore shelf sediments during lowered sea level, are markers of glacial periods on the Channel Islands; (2) identifying beach rock on the Channel Islands as the northernmost occurrence of this feature on the Pacific Coast of North America; (3) recognizing of the role of human activities in historic landscape modification; (4) identifying both the biogenic and pedogenic origins of caliche …

Bullying In Graduate School: Its Nature And Effects, Rachel H. Gentry, Bernard E. Whitley Jr.
Bullying In Graduate School: Its Nature And Effects, Rachel H. Gentry, Bernard E. Whitley Jr.
The Qualitative Report
Does bullying exist in graduate school? If so, what does it look like? Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 22 graduate students from various departments at a medium-sized, Midwestern U.S. university. Grounded Theory methodology (Glaser, 1978) was utilized to gain insight into the terms and behaviors students used to define bullying in the graduate school context. Through constant comparative analysis (Stern, 1980), categories emerged that provided an understanding of the different perspectives inherent in a bully system, and the meanings attached to bullying behaviors. These findings can provide administrators and counselors with the information necessary to conduct preventative training to help …

Optimum Conditions For Ascorbic Acid Determination In Three Iraqi Citrus Using Hplc Technique, Salah A. Jassim, Jenan M. Mahmood, Nuha A.J. Imran, Anfal S. Ali
Baghdad Science Journal
A high-performance liquid chromatography method was employed for the quantitative determination of ascorbic acid (AA) which called vitamin C in three types of Iraqi citrus (orange mandarin and aurantium ) and to establish this goal , evaluation of ascorbic acid degradation is so important due to its significant criticality when exposure to ordinary atmospheric conditions. The chromatographic analysis of AA was carried out after their sequential elution with KH2PO4 ( as mobile phase) by reverse-phase HPLC technique with C8 column and UV detection at 214 nm. .Bad resolutions was appeared clearly for C8 column , so another alternative condition were …

Employee And Organization Security Value Alignment Through Value Sensitive Security Policy Design, Dianne Blitstein Solomon
CCAC Theses and Dissertations
Every member of the organization must be involved in proactively and consistently preventing data loss. Implementing a culture of security has proven to be a reliable method of enfranchising employees to embrace security behavior. However, it takes more than education and awareness of policies and directives to effect a culture of security. Research into organizational culture has shown that programs to promote organizational culture - and thus security behavior - are most successful when the organization's values are congruent with employee values. What has not been clear is how to integrate the security values of the organization and its employees …

Controlling The Empire: Measuring Ethnic Residential Segregation In London, 2001-2011, Lindsay Joella Spell
Dissertations and Theses
This research presents an overview of ethnic residential segregation in London, England, from 2001 to 2011 using four different methods of measurement. The purpose of the study was to both examine changes in the level of segregation among different ethnic groups between census dates and to compare various methods of measurement. Using the Index of Dissimilarity, Poulsen et al.'s (2001) typology classification and two different local statistics (Getis-Ord G* and Anselin Local Moran's I), the levels of concentration of the five main ethnic minority groups in London were measured for data from the 2001 and 2011 censuses. The five ethnic …

Connecting Historical Thinking And Technology In The Classroom, Victoria Mcdonough, Shelley Rose
Undergraduate Research Posters 2014
The motivation behind the Social Studies @ CSU summer blog series is to encourage discussion among teachers about connecting historical thinking and technology with the content of their Social Studies courses. Many teachers are unaware of how to integrate critical thinking skills into their Social Studies courses, leaving students unable to use those skills to guide their own academic careers. Using the current model of Ohio Social Studies content standards and research completed by Sam Wineburg and Daisy Martin as a framework, the Social Studies @ CSU summer blog series provides technological and lesson planning resources and methods for integrating …
