I/O Conformance Test Generation With Colored Petri Nets, Jing Liu, Xinming Ye, Jiantao Zhou, Xiaoyu Song Nov 2014

I/O Conformance Test Generation With Colored Petri Nets, Jing Liu, Xinming Ye, Jiantao Zhou, Xiaoyu Song

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

This paper explores Input-Output Conformance (IOCO) test generation with Colored Petri Nets (CPN). A test generation oriented CPN model and CPN based IOCO relation is proposed. Feasible test cases are generated by model simulation with the proof of its soundness. The method integrates the merits the IOCO testing theory and the CPN modeling synergistically, and is applied as a nontrivial and competent test case generation approach for practical testing projects. The effectiveness of this test generation approach is demonstrated by a concrete software system. Since the model simulation based test generation process is irrespective with the model size, the effectiveness …

Upper And Lower Continuity Of Soft Multifunctions, Metin Akdag, Fethullah Erol Nov 2014

Upper And Lower Continuity Of Soft Multifunctions, Metin Akdag, Fethullah Erol

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

In this paper, we introduced the notion of soft multifunctions and define the upper and lower inverse of a soft multifunction and prove basic properties. Then using these ideas we introduced the concepts of upper and lower continuous soft multifunctions. Also we obtain some characterizations and several properties concerning upper and lower soft continuous multifunctions.

An Efficient Threshold Signature Scheme Resistible To Conspiracy Attack, Yu-Fang Chung, Tzer-Shyong Chen, Tzer-Long Chen Nov 2014

An Efficient Threshold Signature Scheme Resistible To Conspiracy Attack, Yu-Fang Chung, Tzer-Shyong Chen, Tzer-Long Chen

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

The study presents a threshold signature scheme. While developing threshold cryptography, the concept of threshold signature can accomplish a tradeoff between efficiency in use and dependability of security. The presented threshold signature scheme can resist conspiracy attack by controlling the right of issuing group signature, and the performance of constructing group signature is also enhanced by simplifying keys.

The Battle For Higher Standards, Tom Luna, Mike Rush, Rod Gramer, Roger Stewart Nov 2014

The Battle For Higher Standards, Tom Luna, Mike Rush, Rod Gramer, Roger Stewart

Literacy, Language and Culture Faculty Publications and Presentations

In the aftermath of the federal mandates imposed through No Child Left Behind, the state-led effort to establish common math and English standards across states—known as the Common Core State Standards—seemed a welcome change in the approach to improving student achievement and success. However, the effort to ensure that students were ready for college or the workforce became the political target of those who distrust federal mandates and fear a nationalized education agenda bent on social engineering. The standards became intertwined with NSA spying, data mining, and federal grants for education with strings attached.

Online Information Searching For Cardiovascular Diseases: An Analysis Of Mayo Clinic Search Query Logs, Ashutosh Sopan Jadhav, Amit P. Sheth, Jyotishman Pathak Nov 2014

Online Information Searching For Cardiovascular Diseases: An Analysis Of Mayo Clinic Search Query Logs, Ashutosh Sopan Jadhav, Amit P. Sheth, Jyotishman Pathak

Kno.e.sis Publications

Since the early 2000’s, Internet usage for health information searching has increased significantly. Studying search queries can help us to understand users “information need” and how do they formulate search queries (“expression of information need”). Although cardiovascular diseases (CVD) affect a large percentage of the population, few studies have investigated how and what users search for CVD. We address this knowledge gap in the community by analyzing a large corpus of 10 million CVD related search queries from MayoClinic.com. Using UMLS MetaMap and UMLS semantic types/concepts, we developed a rule-based approach to categorize the queries into 14 health categories. We …

Important Components Needed In Today’S Global Society From A Cross-Cultural Perspective, Helena H. Wallenberg-Lerner Ph.D., Wayanne B. James Ph.D. Nov 2014

Important Components Needed In Today’S Global Society From A Cross-Cultural Perspective, Helena H. Wallenberg-Lerner Ph.D., Wayanne B. James Ph.D.

Journal of International and Global Studies

This article reviews the extent to which individuals from different geocultural regions view and identify affective components perceived to be important in today’s global society. Various regions of the world were categorized to ensure equivalent participation around the world. Eight geocultural regions were identified to compare responses by geographical regions to obtain information on possible differences. A questionnaire was administered to respondents in the eight geocultural regions to obtain their perceptions of important affective components needed in today’s global society. Based on this study, there were at least nine different affective components perceived to be important in today’s global society. …

Politics Of Technoscapes: Algorithms Of Social Inclusion & Exclusion In A Global City, R. Swaminathan Nov 2014

Politics Of Technoscapes: Algorithms Of Social Inclusion & Exclusion In A Global City, R. Swaminathan

Journal of International and Global Studies

Social media and the Internet are seen as Siamese twins. The discursive architecture of social media is so tightly coupled with the various imaginaries of the Internet that the distinct spatiality, territoriality, and relational power dynamics of each is often simplistically blurred and merged. This paper makes the case that the sociality and spatiality of social media is not only different from that of the Internet but is increasingly becoming part of our contemporary built environment in a manner that confers social media a high degree of relative autonomy in its relationship with the Internet. The paper further argues that …

Procedural Rights At Sentencing, Carissa Byrne Hessick, F. Andrew Hessick Nov 2014

Procedural Rights At Sentencing, Carissa Byrne Hessick, F. Andrew Hessick

Notre Dame Law Review

In determining which constitutional procedural rights apply at sentencing, courts have distinguished between mandatory and discretionary sentencing systems. For mandatory systems—systems that limit sentencing factors and specify particular punishments based on particular facts—defendants enjoy important rights including the right to a jury, the right to proof beyond a reasonable doubt, the right to notice of potential sentencing aggravators, and the right not to be sentenced based on ex post facto laws. By contrast, for discretionary systems—systems that leave the determination of sentencing factors and how much punishment to impose based on particular facts to the judge’s discretion—defendants do not enjoy …

A House Divided: When State And Lower Federal Courts Disagree On Federal Constitutional Rights, Wayne A. Logan Nov 2014

A House Divided: When State And Lower Federal Courts Disagree On Federal Constitutional Rights, Wayne A. Logan

Notre Dame Law Review

This Article provides the first in-depth examination of state-federal concurrent constitutional authority and does so by focusing on a context in which its consequences are most problematic: within individual states. While a handful of articles over the years have examined state court power vis-a-vis federal constitutional questions more generally, no systematic effort has been undertaken to examine intrastate, state-federal conflict on federal constitutional questions. This Article redresses this deficit, using as its doctrinal locus federal constitutional criminal procedure, with its unique impact on government power and individual liberty and privacy.

Accounting For The Shift Towards ‘Multifaith’ Religious Education In Zambia, 1964 -2017, Nelly Mwale, Joseph C. Chita, Austin M. Cheyeka Nov 2014

Accounting For The Shift Towards ‘Multifaith’ Religious Education In Zambia, 1964 -2017, Nelly Mwale, Joseph C. Chita, Austin M. Cheyeka

Zambia Social Science Journal

This article sheds light on the factors that contributed to the development of ‘multifaith’ Religious Education (RE) in Zambia after 1964. Our analysis makes a contribution to the discourse on inter-religious RE in Zambia by demonstrating how Zambia became a multifaith society, a context in which political statements and ideologies have influenced the framing of the aim, and selection of, the content of the subject. Research for this article consisted of interviews with Christian missionaries who shared with us their involvement in developing, teaching and evaluating standards of the teaching of RE. We also carried out an appraisal of literature …
