Passivization Of Em Peec Solutions In The Frequency And Time Domain, Albert E. Ruehli, Giulio Antonini, Lijun Jiang
Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
The stability issues for time domain integral equations is well known and it has been investigated for a long time. In this paper, we pursue an approach for the stabilization and even passivization of the electromagnetic solutions in the time and frequency domain using the PEEC circuit techniques. We aim to enhance the passivity by adding more passivization to the EM solution rather than using a post-processing technique which have to be used in the EM solver is not available. © 2013 IEEE.
The Pedagogical Legacy Of Vicente Scaramuzza: The Relationship Between Anatomy Of The Hand, Tone Production, And Musical Goals, Marcelo G. Lian
The Pedagogical Legacy Of Vicente Scaramuzza: The Relationship Between Anatomy Of The Hand, Tone Production, And Musical Goals, Marcelo G. Lian
Glenn Korff School of Music: Dissertations, Theses, Student Creative Work, and Performances
The Italian pianist and pedagogue Vicente Scaramuzza has become one of the most prominent musical figures in Argentina. His students achieved international recognition and his school of piano playing is still being passed on by his former students. My piano teacher in Buenos Aires, Nilda Somma, studied for fourteen years under his supervision, and shared with me his annotations, fingerings, and re-distributions (it is important to point out that decades ago, redistributing notes between both hands in certain passages was not a controversial practice).
Among Vicente Scaramuzza’s most renowned students are Martha Argerich, Bruno Gelber, Enrique Barenboim (who later taught …

Fe2o3 Nanoparticles Wrapped In Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes With Enhanced Lithium Storage Capability, Nan Yan, Xuhui Zhou, Yan Li, Fang Wang, Hao Zhong, Hui Wang, Qianwang Chen
Publications and Research
We have designed a novel hybrid nanostructure by coating Fe2O3 nanoparticles with multi-walled carbon nanotubes to enhance the lithium storage capability of Fe2O3. The strategy to prepare Fe2O3@MWCNTs involves the synthesis of Fe nanoparticles wrapped in MWCNTs, followed by the oxidation of Fe nanoparticles under carbon dioxide. When used as the anode in a Li-ion battery, this hybrid material (70.32 wt% carbon nanotubes, 29.68 wt% Fe2O3) showed a reversible discharge capacity of 515 mAhg−1 after 50 cycles at a density of 100 mAg−1 and the capacity based on Fe2O3 nanoparticles was calculated as 1147 mAhg−1, Three factors are responsibile for …

Formation And Analysis Of Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles And Zinc Oxide Hexagonal Prisms And Optical Analysis Of Cadmium Selenide Nanoparticles, Jared M. Hancock
Theses and Dissertations
In this dissertation, methods to synthesize ZnO are reported. First, zinc oxide nanoparticles were synthesized with small amounts of transition metal ions to create materials called dilute magnetic semiconductors (DMS). We employed a low temperature sol-gel method that produces ZnO nanoparticles of reproducible size and incorporates cobalt, nickel, and manganese ions into the nanoparticles. Conditions were controlled such that a range of amounts of Co, Ni, and Mn were incorporated. The incorporation was tracked by color changes in the white ZnO powder to blue for Co, green for Ni and yellow for Mn. XRD measurements showed the nanoparticles were on …
Methods And Metrics For Human Interaction With Bio-Inspired Robot Swarms, Sean C. Kerman
Methods And Metrics For Human Interaction With Bio-Inspired Robot Swarms, Sean C. Kerman
Theses and Dissertations
In this thesis we propose methods and metrics for human interaction with bio-inspired robot teams. We refine the concept of a stakeholder and demonstrate how a human can use stakeholders to lead a swarm as well as switch the swarm between different collective behaviors. We extend the human interaction metrics of interaction time and interaction effort presented in [1] to swarm systems and introduce the concept of interaction effort. These metrics allow us to understand how well the system performs under human influence. We employ systems theory to estimate these metrics, which is useful because this can be done without …

Homogeneous Algan/Gan Superlattices Grown On Free-Standing (1(1)Over-Bar00) Gan Substrates By Plasma-Assisted Molecular Beam Epitaxy, Jiayi Shao, Dmitri N. Zakharov, Collin Edmunds, Oana Malis, Michael J. Manfra

Two-dimensional and homogeneous growth of m-plane AlGaN by plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy has been realized on free-standing (1 (1) over bar 00) GaN substrates by implementing high metal-to-nitrogen (III/N) flux ratio. AlN island nucleation, often reported for m-plane AlGaN under nitrogen-rich growth conditions, is suppressed at high III/N flux ratio, highlighting the important role of growth kinetics for adatom incorporation. The homogeneity and microstructure of m-plane AlGaN/GaN superlattices are assessed via a combination of scanning transmission electron microscopy and high resolution transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The predominant defects identified in dark field TEM characterization are short basal plane stacking faults …

Effects Of External Radiation Fields On Line Emission—Application To Star-Forming Regions, Marios Chatzikos, Gary J. Ferland, R. J. R. Williams, Ryan Porter, P. A. M. Vanhoof
Physics and Astronomy Faculty Publications
A variety of astronomical environments contain clouds irradiated by a combination of isotropic and beamed radiation fields. For example, molecular clouds may be irradiated by the isotropic cosmic microwave background, as well as by a nearby active galactic nucleus. These radiation fields excite atoms and molecules and produce emission in different ways. We revisit the escape probability theorem and derive a novel expression that accounts for the presence of external radiation fields. We show that when the field is isotropic the escape probability is reduced relative to that in the absence of external radiation. This is in agreement with previous …

Fast And Efficient Low-Frequency Algorithms For Multiscale Structure Modeling, Sheng Sun, Zu Hui Ma, Qin S. Liu, Zhi Guo Qian, Lijun Jiang, Weng Cho Chew
Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
This paper reviews our recently developed fast and efficient algorithms for multiscale structure modeling. Low-frequency electromagnetic analysis becomes indispensable for multi-scale structures because of the involved minute length-scale compared to wavelength and mid length-scale on the order of wavelength or larger, where wave physics meets circuit physics. We are currently investigating stable low-frequency solutions in solving integral equations without the need for loop-tree decomposition, including the augmented EFIE, equivalence principle based algorithms, and perturbation-based Calderon multiplicative preconditioning methods. © 2013 IEEE.
Adolescent Males In Secondary School In Ireland: Alcohol Use And Depressed Mood, Robert A. Kerr
Adolescent Males In Secondary School In Ireland: Alcohol Use And Depressed Mood, Robert A. Kerr
Irish Journal of Applied Social Studies
Per capita alcohol consumption by Irish teenagers has doubled over the past three decades. There has also been a doubling of the suicide rate among young men. The aim of this study was to measure the correlation between alcohol consumption and negative mood (as measured by elements of the Beck Depression Inventory) in a sample (n = 169) of final-year secondary school male students. A questionnaire was devised to ascertain frequency, type and quantity of alcohol consumed, as well as attitudes towards drinking in general. The questionnaire also assessed overall mood disturbance, and these two sets of results were analysed …
